Anyone who knows me on this site knows that I'm far from an EA Troll (whatever that is). I just call it like I see it. When 2K had better game play that's who I supported. Now, they don't have better gameplay in my opinion. So that makes me a EA Troll right? Yeah, ok... read my blog homie... You don't know me like that.
These are my opinions based off of my perspective. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but if you disagree, we can still agree to disagree agreeably and not fight about it.

This was the original post...... which is now #1181 of a long thread......

I can remember creating the Post Game tutorial for 2K8 and how much fun it was to play in an online league with that incredible structure. While those features are still there and they put in the whole "My Player" mode, it's simply not holding my attention. In my opinion, 2K9 is where 2K lost me but 2K10 is absolutely funny. I think the game is very "pretty" but seriously caters to the casual basketball gamer a bit too much for my taste. Defense is very suspect in the game and no matter how much I've tweeked the sliders, it doesn't correct some fundamental problems with the game.

Defenders seem to just "leave their assignment" and double for no reason in dumb situations. Even when I turn the defensive settings to "Never" for everyone and tune the double team slider down to 0 in coaching options, they still do it. That is frustrating.

I still find it way to easy to get to the goal even on Hall of Fame difficulty setting. I also find it annoying when the CPU shoots 60%-80% from the field. Adjusting the sliders helps with this but I don't want to have to do a research project just to make the CPU to act realistically. Another thing that I find disturbing is when the CPU attempts a majority of it's shots in the paint from back door cuts and simply trying to force it's way into the paint with iso moves. Even with the sliders tuned down for attacking the basket and taking close and inside shots it still does it way too frequently.

I'm not impressed with 2K10's gameplay at all. I have tried to search out a Developer to explain the defensive logic to me but to no avail. I have the competitor's game and there really is no comparison in gameplay even though 2K's presentation behaves more like something you would see on TV. I guess for the casual gamer, that is the most important thing so 2K has accomplished their goal. I said this a long time ago and this year's game confirms this for me.

I'm waiting for the patch to see if it makes a difference but for now it may be the first item I ever sell on Ebay.

I am getting killed for saying these exact same things. I could be wrong, but the decisions 2k has made in the last two games lead me to believe that they are moving in a more arcade-oriented, user friendly direction. Just about every complaint that people either have, or adjust sliders for, is something that makes the offense easier. Out of the box, shooting is easier, alley oops are easier, getting to the rim is easier, no pick and roll defense.

I realize they are patching these things, some of them because the community is complaining about it, but I wonder how much the game released is what 2k wanted from a philosophical standpoint. I understand that no developer wants framerate issues or server problems, but do they really feel that percentages were too high on default? Do they really feel that the AI teammate defense was inadequate? Do they feel that the plays weren't running crisply?

Or were these simply non priority issues in the face of other more important cosmetic aspects of the game? I'm not accusing. I'm genuinely curious. The Combine, NBA 2k8 and Choops 2k8 have me wondering, because so many things in those older games are much more sim than 2k9 or 2k10.

From a gameplay standpoint, everything that is arcadey and fun feels very reliable(getting into the paint, hitting 3s, etc) and everything that is more sim oriented(defensive tendencies, contesting shots etc) feels very unreliable.

I don't have a problem with defense being challenging, but I do question the philosophy of a company that has offense be so very easy in the face of such a challenging defensive mechanic, particularly when the interior play is rather forgiving.

People think it is hyperbole, or taking shots, but I truly do believe that 2k10 is an arcade game at it's core, with simulation trappings. There are enough simulation mechanisms to customize and finagle your way to a sim, but if you just simply play the game, an arcade philosophy will do you much better than a sim philosophy.

LMAO If they are ok with the games defense, if theyre having a sim experience....is a detailed post on why THEY shouldnt think that really necessary?

How so? Isn't my player on a lower difficulty by default. My 8 year old son and I were playing the Live demo about 3 weeks ago on pro. And it was a layup/dunk fest. He was hitting all his 3's also with fisher. He even hit 2 3's with fisher drifting out of bounds and a hand in his face. It was fun. He won, but it wasn't exactly sim. I think he missed 4 shots the entire demo. But hey it was on a lower difficulty, so why complain.

It's still too easy to abuse the lead passing. The CPU AI needs to be improved so the CPU defenders try to defend and tip your passes more.

This is a problem that has plagued 2k for a while, and it needs to be fixed. AI defenders have such low awareness that they allow passes to go right over them and in front of them without tipping them. Defenders should try to tip and/or steal the pass if they are in position to do so. As of now, they rarely try to tip the pass if it is near them.

As of now, you can easily abuse the CPU with icon passes and lead passes and the CPU will not try to get in your passing lanes to disrupt your passes. This has always been a problem with 2k and it's still a problem. It's just too easy to lead pass against the CPU. The CPU defenders are just kind of clueless and lazy about defending your passes.

This is very true. They said it will be addressed in a patch. But in regards to MY PLAYER mode...YOU DON'T HAVE TO ABUSE THE LEAD PASS. You don't have to mash the steals button either, but a lot of ppl do. Why? Cuz you can? OK.

My player is single player and it is also offline. I have a SG and I don't abuse the lead pass although I could. I rarely even call for passes. It can be arcadey if you play it that way. And it can also be sim if you play it that way. The choice is yours. It's on a lower difficulty by default with no sliders. I brought up the live example, because it's arcadey on lower difficulty also. And if you choose to play it that way then that is what you will get. If you want your game sim then play it that way, especially if we are talking about player vs. cpu.

But I agree 2k10 lead passing is overpowered. Doesn't mean you have to abuse it in my player though.
