Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Back with an update on my Cavs association. Last time I posted I had just won the 1st game of the 2013-2014 season, and was winning at half time of the 2nd. Here's what happened...

    2013-2014
The Cavs started off strong with two convincing wins over the Jazz and the Bucks respectively, with 7'5" rookie Sim Bhullar showing a nice touch in the paint, with 16 and 18 points in the 1st two games. We lost the next game though, as the Pistons got a lead on us late and we couldn't come back. The entire season, we played real well and were fortunate not to suffer any major key injuries. Perry Jones was named an all-star for the 3rd straight year and Kyrie Irving made his 1st all-star game appearance. The duo, aided by Eric Gordon and the prescence of Bhullar, led the team to a 47-35 record, good enough to tie for 1st in the Central with the Bulls, and we won the tie breaker earning the 3rd seed in the East. In the 1st round, we went up 3-0 on the Knicks, before they stormed back to tie the series at 3. But Sim Bhullar was too much, posting 19 points, one off his career high, to lead the Cavs to victory in Game 7. We played the Pacers next round, and we traded games back and fourth until we took home Game 7 on our home floor. As faith would have it, our Eastern Conference Finals match-up was between the hated LeBron James and the Miami Heat. We owned the Heat, only losing once to them during the regular season. We went out and took a 3-2 lead, setting us up in the perfect scenario, a chance to close them out on our home floor. We came out strong, and led by 1 at the half. They were too much for us though. Despite a 14 point effort off the bench in the 2nd half from LeBryan Nash, LeBron James and D-Wade carried Miami past us to the Finals, where they would lose 4-1 to the Memphis Grizzlies, and Rudy Gay was awarded Finals MVP. LeBron was once again the NBA's regular season MVP, and nobody from my team recieved any honors. In the off season, the main goals were to find an upgrade over Patrick Beverly to back-up Irving at the point, and add more depth to the bench. We accepted the team options on 6 players, including Irving, Jones, Lucas Nougiera, LeBryan Nash, Tanveer Bhullar, and the suprisingly talented 2nd round pick Nikola Vucevic. We re-signed JaJuan Johnson to a 3 year deal, and at the draft we swapped Amir Johnson and our 1st round pick for Trevor Booker, helping to achieve the goal of adding depth to our bench. We then signed Pgs Demetri McCamey (3yrs/$18.13M) and Jacob Pullen (3yrs/$14.88M) hoping one would solve the back-up Pg issue. We were ready for the next year.

    2014-2015
When I saw we were only ranked 11th in the pre-season power rankings, I knew we needed to make some trades. Our team was good, but needed to be better to win a championship. I also realized we needed to re-sign Perry Jones and Kyrie Irving next year, so we might need to clear a contract. The obvious choice was Eric Gordon, who as a 3rd wheel is not worth his contract. It ended up being 3 days worth of wheeling and dealing. The trades:
10/25/14- Blazers get: Eric Gordon, Luis Scola, 2015 1st round pick<O</O
Cavs get: Lamrcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews<O</O
10/25/14- Nuggets get: Trevor Booker, Lucas Nougiera, 2015 2nd round pick<O</O
Cavs get: Khem Birch, Alonzo Gee<O</O
10/25/14- Rockets get: Wesley Matthews, Alonzo Gee, Jacob Pullen<O</O
Cavs get- Aaron Brooks, Dequan Jones<O</O
10/27/14- Spurs get- Lamarcus Aldridge, Augustus Gilchrist, 2016 1st round pick, 2016 2nd round pick<O</O
Cavs get- DeMar DeRozen, Darrell Arthur

The end result from our roster last year we added two new starters (DeMar DeRozen, Khem Birch), a huge upgrade at back-up Pg (Aaron Brooks), and two expiring contracts (Darrell Arthur, Dequan Jones) for Eric Gordon, Luis Scola, Lucas Nougiera, Augustus Gilchrist, and 4 draft picks. The team improved from 87 overall, to 90 overall, making us the 9th best team overall. Hopefully this puts us over the top! Next update after the season!

    CURRENT ROSTER
Pg Kyrie Irving 89/ Aaron Brooks 74/ Demetri McCamey 67
Sg Shabazz Muhammad 79/ DeMar DeRozan 78/ Dequan Jones 64
Sf Perry Jones 93/ LeBryan Nash 79
Pf Khem Birch 78/ JuJuan Johnson 67/ Nicola Vucevic 66/ Darrell Arthur 64

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Simmed the last 60 games of my MIN 'chise [All-star/10min/82gm], started off 14-10 and ended up 26-56. Won ROY with Wes Johnson. Lucked into the 2nd pick in draft plus had CLE's 1st round which was the 8th pick. Drafted Kyle Owens[SG 84ovr,A- potntl] and Aaron Sharpe [C 73ovr,A-potntl] respectively. Plus 2 others 2nd rounders Milton Armstrong [PG 61ovr], Drew Williams [SF 63ovr].

Lazar Hayward[didn't pick up his opt], Telfair [went to FA]. Traded Koufus to SAC for Hassan Whiteside. Trade Darko to WAS for Seraphin. Signed Donte Greene. Then i went bold and traded Shannon Brown, Kyle Owens [#2 pick,SG 84 ovr], '12 2nd round to SA for Ginobili who i always wanted to play with but no on the Spurs. I feel it's easy to fill the SG spot if Ginobili retires in a few years. Beasley and Love are about to get real expensive next year, might try to move one of them mid-season.

        Lineup:
PG Flynn | Milton Armstrong[rookie] | Lester Hudson
SG Ginobili | Nick Young | Ellington
        SF Wes J | Donte Greene | Drew Williams[rookie]
PF Beasley | Amundson | Seraphin
        C Love | Sharpe[73ovr #8 pick] | Hassan Whiteside
        Lakers | Michigan | Dodgers

          CHICAGO BULLS

          Default Settings
          7 Min Quarters
          12 Min Sim Quarters

Im Going With The Normal Bulls Roster, Updating The League's Roster With Official NBA Transactions. (You Don't Have To Do A 30-Team Association; Just Select "Resign Position" and Make The Trade From The Team)

          Roster:
          PG: Rose, Watson, Lucas
          SG: Bogans, Brewer
          SF: Deng, Korver, Johnson
          PF: Boozer, Gibson, Thomas, Scalabrine
          C: Noah, Asik

Waiting for Bulls to pull the trigger on a SG deal before i make any moves, but if that doesn't happen i'll make a trade with bogans + DP's.

Something is happening down in Miami late in the season. It is March and Mike Miller is out again (3 times he has been on the injured list with a balky back). Eddie House has fallen out of favor with coach Spolstra So he decided to give un-drafted rookie Chris Jennings a look. The Heat had signed Jennings from their D-League affiliate after he had been tearing up the league averaging 28 points a game. Jennings a 6'6 SG out of St Johns was not thought of highly coming out of school. A kid who has a very nice outside stroke and a decent first step was an afterthought in the 2008 draft. His potential grade is a "F". He is a 60 overall rated player.

In his season debut vs the Spurs he had a magical 4th quarter and ended up scoring a team season high 53 points. Ok so maybe it was a fluke.

Enter Jennings in the second quarter vs the Oklahoma Thunder. The kid started hot again. and finished the first half with 23 points. Enter Jennings in the mid 3rd quarter...he came out for only 5 minutes after that as D-Wade played the second half at PG most of the remainder of the game.

Chris Jennings finished with 46 points in a come from behind win over the Thunder 103-99

This is a developing story as this kid is seriously on fire. He is just dropping shots like no bodies business. Dwayne Wade is all for Jennings getting more minutes. "If Chris can keep this up and stay focused he will help us to a title". "I have no problem playing point to make room for Chris". "As long as he plays like this I don't think anyone in this locker room cares about losing minutes".

Wade is probably talking about Mario Chalmers who has been playing very good giving some of his 30 minute average to Chris Jennings. He also is talking about James Jones giving up a handful of minutes as well. When Coach Spolstra was asked about what the rotation will look like after Mike Miller comes back he was very quick to say "just like it was before he went out". Mike has been very effective while healthy this season and not only brings the 3pt shot but rebounding, passing and defense. Those are areas that Chris Jennings needs to work on if he wants to stick. His defense is very suspect, and he is not a good passer at this stage.

It remains to be seen if this is just a few very hot games of a kid who is in the "zone" or the Heat just may have struck gold from the D-League.

It has been an amazing ride thus far for 2 games watching Chris Jennings just stroking the ball.

            I am shocked.
Holy sh*t, that is RIDICULOUS. Great write-up by the way.

If this guy is actually in the D-League, I may have to pick him up for my Bulls association.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Finished up my 2nd offseason last night. I got way too into it and ended up staying up really late so I could get through all of it, lol.

              Here's what went down:

First off, it looks like there's some kind of coach hiring/firing glitch. For whatever reason, about 20 teams changed coaches, a lot of them playoff teams. Doc Rivers, Phil Jackson, Erik Spoelstra, George Karl (2nd year in a row he switched) and plenty more coaches all changed teams.

The strange thing is during the Staff Signing period of the offseason, I toyed with the idea of firing Byron Scott. Not much of a fan of his offense and to keep things somewhat realistic, I figured I wouldn't change up much of his plays unless I fired him for another coach. Anyways, when I looked to see what coaches were available, the only notable ones were Rick Adelman and Jay Triano. Rivers, Jackson, Spoelstra and Karl weren't there. Might be something 2K has to patch, assuming there's another one in the works....

              • Jason Kidd was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame after retiring.

              The Draft
Detroit was projected to get the #1 pick, but New Jersey ended up winning the lottery and getting it instead. I had the 18th overall selection.

Throughout the season I was mostly scouting bigs. None of them really stood out though and weren't going to help my need of a low post scorer immediately. I looked at a few wing players as well and there was a SF named Stevie Booth I was really interested in. He was built like Ron Artest, but was very athletic and could shoot well. His defense wasn't on Artest levels though. He was projected to be a Top 5 pick so I wasn't getting him unless he miraculously fell to the 18th pick, so chances were I was going to shop my pick.

To start off the draft, New Jersey offered me the #1 overall pick and a filler player for my now 2nd year PG Aaron Webber. I declined as Booth was really the only rookie I was interested and he was a SF. It wouldn't have been smart to get rid of my only PG for a guy that was probably going to be a 6th man for me, even if Webber was for the most part brutal in the playoffs. After declining, New Jersey selected SF Adilson Silva from Brazil.

The next 3 picks were all offered to me by the CPU, as all those teams were trying to pry Aaron Webber from me. I declined all of their offers.

Once the draft got to my pick, Stevie Booth was already well off the board (#2 to the Clippers). I went into the trade finder to see what I could grab for my pick. There were some decent offers, but nothing too intriguing. Then I got to an offer from Dallas. Dirk Nowitzki for 2 1st round picks. Looking back, I completely regret this, but I declined.

My reasoning: Dirk is one of the guys I see retiring where he is. Like a Tim Duncan or Paul Pierce. I was hesitant to take him away from the Mavs. Also, Dirk is a PF but he's more of a perimeter player and my team already played too much on the perimeter. My final reason was because, aside from Chris Paul, I didn't know for sure who was going to be in free agency. If I took on Dirk, I'd have pretty much no cap room, so I stupidly passed on the offer.

I ended up taking a SG named Cliff Richardson. He's a 60 overall, but doesn't stand out in one particular area. Basically a wasted pick.

              Last notes from the draft:

              • I traded my 2nd round pick to Memphis for Tony Allen, hoping to improve my defense. He was riding the bench for them as they were already loaded on the wings with OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, Xavier Henry and their newly drafted rookie SG Walt Willis.

              • Orlando traded Quentin Richardson and their 2nd to Denver for Kenyon Martin.

              • The Kings traded their 2nd and Luke Ridnour to the Warriors for young guard Doyle Nixon (nothing special).

              Player Re-Signings

I declined Lamar Odom's $8 million team option and let him become a FA. He was a decent player for me, but not what I was looking for at his position. Robin Lopez was an RFA so I made him a $4 million qualifying offer.

I had a few other small impending free agents like Reggie Evans and Patrick Mills. I let all of them walk as I wanted to see what my $10 million+ cap room could get me in free agency.

              Free Agency
(BOS) signs Anthony Randolph - 5 years/64.66 million
(BOS) signs Armon Johnson - 3 years/19.01 million
(CLE) signs Steve Nash - 1 year/6.05 million
(CLE) signs Memhet Okur - 1 year/1.99 million
(DAL) signs Courtney Lee - 5 years/28.50 million
(DET) signs Nate Robinson - 3 years/22.57 million
(DET) signs George Hill - 4 years/42.66 million
              (MIA) signs Shaquille O'Neal - 1 year/1.89 million
(MIA) signs Marcus Camby - 1 year/1.06 million
(MIN) signs Michael Beasley - 4 years/62.89 million
(NO) signs JJ Hickson - 4 years/38.22 million
              (PHX) signs Chris Paul - 4 years/72.89
(PHX) signs Jason Thompson - 5 years/43.95 million

The big chip was Chris Paul, but I didn't have the cap space to get him. It wasn't the best FA class, but there was talent.

I really needed a backup PG and decided on Nash. Kirk Hinrich and Nate Robinson were options as well, but I figured Nash was the cheapest option while also having great value. I also signed Okur to have a big that can stretch the floor when/if that's needed. I'm also hoping he can be somewhat of a decent scorer for me down low.

Phoenix was obviously the big winner in free agency, winning the CP3 sweepstakes. They also took a big gamble on Jason Thompson, who is still recovering from a torn MCL. 2 years of terrible-ness finally payed off for them however and now they're starting to shape a nice looking team with Paul, Wes Johnson, Jason Thompson and Kendrick Perkins. They have a big hole at SG though. They're starting a 2nd year player named Scott West, who is decent but not starter material.

All I can do is shake my damn head looking at what Miami did. As if they weren't already hard enough to beat, they now have 2 legit big men that can affect the outcome of games.

I think Boston made a nice move signing Anthony Randolph as KG's future replacement. Both are really similar when you look at their size and length, so I thought this was kind of a cool scenario to see.

I have no clue what Detroit was trying to accomplish. They're currently stockpiling a ton of guards. They have Will Bynum, Ben Gordon, George Hill, Nate Robinson and a 73 OVR rookie PG named Dell Brown.

As the offseason was coming to a close I had 95 development points. I sent both Carmelo and Shannon Brown to improve their defense. Both are now 80+ in on-ball D.

To end the offseason, 2 trades went down, 1 being my own.

              (DET) acquires Jameer Nelson
              (ORL) acquires Nate Robinson

(CLE) acquires Zach Randolph, Giogios Balidis, Ed Foster (both scrub PGs used as salary filler to make the trade work)
(NJ) acquires Robin Lopez, CLE's 1st rounder next year, Ben Gordon, Kyle Korver
(DET) acquires Terrence Williams, Anthony Morrow, Cliff Richardson

Randolph, Morrow and Williams came from New Jersey. Lopez, Korver and Richardson came from my team. Gordon, Foster and Balidis came from Detroit.

I not only used this trade to get myself Zach Randolph, it helped clear up Detroit's situation with all of the guards they had who didn't have a defined role.

Also, Randolph was sitting behind Favors and Lopez in NJ. Plus Morrow was getting upset with his lack of playing time. A nice touch to this trade is that I reunited the Lopez brothers like their college days.

              Start of the Season
Going into the 3rd season (opening game is vs. San Antonio), this is my roster:

              PG: Aaron Webber - 1 yr, 3.91 M + 2 yr team option
              Steve Nash - 1 yr, 6.05 M
              Giogios Baldis - 1 yr, 520k

              SG:
              Shannon Brown - 3 yrs, 7.60 M + player option
              Sonny Weems - 1 yr, 1.57 M
              Tony Allen - 1 yr, 3.30 M

              SF:
              Carmelo Anthony - 3 yrs, 18.11 M + player option
              Mickael Pietrus - 1 yr, 2.01 M

              PF: Zach Randolph - 4 yrs, 10.85 M
              Taj Gibson - 1 yr, 2.16 M

              C:
              Tyson Chandler - 1 yr, 2.64 M
              Mehmet Okur - 1 yr, 1.99 M

              Cap Room: -$2.36 million

I think this is a pretty nice improvement over my lineup last year. Last year I had Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, Kyle Korver and Robin Lopez. I replaced them with Steve Nash, Zach Randolph, Mehmet Okur and Tony Allen. I don't think it's a championship quality team just yet, but I'm getting there.

Also, Sonny Weems was in the D-League last year and will get a chance to compete with Tony Allen for backup SG minutes.

              • Note: Instead of going with the 2K generated draft class, I chose to use Rowe32's 2011 draft class, even if it is a few years late.

              Thanks for reading.

starting up a Raptors association, after not finding a way to fix this freezing problem when I try to advance in my bulls, instead of playing season 1 I will be simming it and starting from year 2. Look for a update later tonight or tomorrow.

Nice write-up. I like what you're doing with your team and how all the CPU teams are turning out. Do you sim games? How many a season?

So which of these 2 trades should I try to pull off (not sure if they work without trade override yet, but think of these as trade talks):

Nets receive - Corey Brewer & Anthony Tolliver
                        Timberwolves - Travis Outlaw & 2nd Rounder

                        or

Nets receive - Marcus Thornton & David Anderson
Hornets receive - Travis Outlaw & 2nd Rounder

Both the T-Wolves and the Hornets would receive upgrades to their backup SF spot.

Turns out that Alston was interested in signing a 10 day contract. I ended up signing Mike James to one instead. He'll probably get about 8-10 minutes a night backing-up Dragic until Nash returns.

Some people are like in their 3rd season already. Obviously, they simmed some games(maybe a lot) but I find it really fun to rebuild teams into contenders which should take a while. I'm controlling only 1, and I'm looking forward to playing multiple seasons.

Just make sure you at least:

Download a very good roster(if you're PS3, search ffaacc03 or any other top rated one; if you're 360 try out Rashidi's or Nogster's or any other top rated one)
Download a draft class(if you follow NCAAB and like the upcoming guys), or you could use an auto-generated one provided by 2K when you start one)
Try out some different slider sets
Turn off player roles (I personally don't have it off, but some do. I have Team Chemistry off)
Go to practice mode cuz you'll need it!

Sorry if this is a bit much.. you probably played a 2K game before. Lol, but you really should practice a bit, cuz the game changed.. for the better, in my opinion.
