Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
Yeah really, I started my association last week but didn't get around to starting to play it until a few nights ago. Then again, this is part of the reason I always sim through the first season to kind of shake things up in the league.
The closest thing I have to a hometown team is the Bobcats, and MJ has done a great job of hamstringing them financially. If you look through all the teams on default rosters they have, by far, the least amount of tradable assets (in terms of * rating) especially with being over the soft cap. I thought it would be a fun challenge to reshape their roster...and man did I reshape it.
I kind of had a fortunate series of events happen as I was in the process of blowing up my roster.
1) After learning that it's easier to trade players to dump salary BEFORE going for draft picks (since the AI all wants trades involving the picks), I dumped pretty much everyone who wasn't going to be part of my future core going forward or who wasn't on a 1 year contract (meaning I kept Kwame and Mohammed for the year). Looking to build with Wallace, Thomas, and Augustine with Henderson as a potential trade asset later -- his potential is surprisingly good though. Expect to have around 28-30 million in cap space at the end of the season. Signed a lot of filler players to one year contracts -- rebuilding mode! (a season after making the playoffs? Thanks MJ)
2) Managed to trade for the Cav's and Griz's first rounder. Saw that the Raptors wanted to swap first rounders for the Griz one, which worked out great because the Raptors finished with the 2nd worst record and the Griz made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
3) Because of some luck with the Raptor's 1st round pick, my first rounders turned into the first pick of the draft, along with the 6th and the 9th. (Side note: I'd love to see them include lottery protection in draft picks next year.) I didn't use a custom draft class. I ended up drafting a Kevin Garnett clone PF with a 79 overall (A+ potential), a Jason Terry clone SG with a 78 overall (B- potential), and a 6'11" center who was 68 overall but has an A+ potential. That's a very solid nucleus to build on.
4) Then free agency came and crap got real because not only was Anthony on the market as an UFA, but HE SIGNED WITH ME. I was shocked too, I offered a 4 year max deal with a 5th year player option. I figured why not try. From there I signed some mid 60 players to fill out my bench at low contracts, and it really feels like I have SUBSTANTIALLY upgraded the bobcats WHILE remaining under the salary cap (by 2.5 million).
Starters:
PG: Augustine (77) -- he's good, no sense in replacing him at the moment, probably will extend him soon.
SG: Wallace (83) -- in more of a slasher role, he's too good a defender to relegate to 6th man
SF: Anthony (91) -- Sorry Knicks -- not that sorry though.
PF: Geiger (79) -- Rookie PF. He's a monster on both sides of the court.
C: Thomas (75) -- My rookie C will play substantial minutes off the bench, but Thomas is athletic enough to handle this role.
Significant Bench Players:
6th: Rookie SG (78) -- He's from Ukraine, so I don't remember his name. He can shoot lights out from anywhere and can play on ball defense too.
7th: Simms (68 Rookie C) -- I'm looking forward to pairing him with Geiger in the front court in the future, but he's not quite there yet.
8th: Gerald Henderson -- Not pleased that he's no longer a starter, but he'll get over it.
9th: Either Collins or a guy I picked up off the D league to back up Augustine.
What I really like about my front 5 is that all 5 of them can be moved to different positions if need be (Geiger to PF/SF). My PG depth is suspect, but Augustine has a good health record. If only henderson could play PG.
Season 2 is going to be interesting!Comment

Does anyone else have a problem with the heat?
I've played them twice and both times i've lost in the 4th quarter
Lebrons averaging like 36 against me and he does it against anyone I throw at him
and being small inside (both my PF and C are 6'10) doesn't really help shut down the inside when they driveComment

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
I love starting associations with BAD teams, preferably under the cap. Rebuilding is always fun...
This time the lucky winner was the T'Wolves.
I want to center my future core around Love, Beasley, and Flynn. Anyone else is expendable. (Yup, Even Ellington and W.Johnson).
first season was a bad as you might expect. Finished 20-62. I did make an interesting move though.. 2 weeks before the deadline the warriors offered me a trade i couldn't refuse. David Lee and Andris Beidrins for Eddy Curry's big expiring contract and Anthony Randolph. It was the dumbest move a Computer has ever made. anywhoo. after the season, my main goal was to trade for a bunch of picks and cash in on the sweet Class of 2011. and boy did I.
First move, Trading my 2 2012 2nd rounders for Toronto's 1st round pick.
Then I traded for the nets 1st by getting rid of Pekovich and Webster, and picked up Johan Petro along with it.
After Kicking my sorry excuse for a coach to the curb, along with my assistant, I hired My personal favorite coach, the legendary Rick Adelman.
With a well known coach in place, and a bunch of picks my eyes were set on The fantastic class of 11'
With the 2nd pick (T'Wolves) I grabbed SG Terrence Jones from Kentucky, a nice potential to go along with he's NBA ready at a position that used to be filled by Ridnour (traded to blazers for 2 2nd rounders.)
the 4th pick, my C position needed a Long term fix. so i went for the lithuanianfd 7 footer, Donatas Montejunas, I finished by nabbing William Buford from ohio state, and LaceDarius Dunn from Baylor. I traded Jefferey taylor for a 2nd rd pick in 2012 and J.Rich .
As it stands now, My rotation is very wide, and I'm shopping a very unhappy Wesley Johnson. (23 Morale!)
Rotation |||| OVRPG-Johnny Flynn 78
SG-Jason Richardson 74
SF-Michael Beasley 82
PF-Kevin Love 85
C-David Lee 82
6th-W.Johnson 80
7th-Terrence Jones 73
8th-Don. Montejunas 70
9th-Andris Beidrins 66
10th-LaceDarius Dunn 65
11th-W.Ellington 68
12th-Jake Robinson 62 (94 3pt)
Whatcha Think?? Playoffs? do i need more time?
Thanks.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
I control all 30 teams. I've been purposely, slowly progressing along to have the trade deadline and buy-outs pass. When should I make these trades. I'm thinking late-January or mid-February to trade Carmelo and DWill. Or should I just do it immediately? What do you guys think? Leaning towards the deadline.
This is the beauty of controlling all 30, I don't need to restart. I know the trade deadline is off, and also if any of the traded players gets injured I will re-sim that game so they are healthy, hehe.Purdue Boilermakers

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
Iv'e made up my mind and i'm going to be running with the Wizards for my association.
I have a feeling i'm going to trade Gilbert Arenas for some young players and hopefully some good draft picks. I'm also going to try and get Big Baby Davis from the Celtics to give us another body down low. My starting lineup should look like this...
PG - John Wall
SG - ????
SF - Josh Howard
PF - Glen Davis
C - Javelle McGee
Possibly looking to get J.R. Smith from the Nuggets, anyone have any suggestions on who I can get for Arenas?Comment

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
76ers (25-47)
Needless to say the playoffs are out of the question for this season, but I am looking long term.
I made 2 trades this season before the trade deadline.
A deal with the bobcats that sent them Lou Williams, Tony Battie, and my 2011, 2012 2nd round picks.
In return I got their 2011 1st round pick, Nazr Mohammed, and Derrick Brown
A deal with the Kings, sending Andre Iguadala to them for 1st round picks this year and next.
Also made a minor deal sending unhappy veterans Darious Songalia and Eric Dampier to the Clippers for their 2nd rounder next season.
So my next 2 drafts look like this:
2011
76ers 1st
Bobcats 1st
Kings 1st
2012
76ers 1st
Kings 1st
Clippers 2nd
Current Roster
PG
Jrue Holiday
Antonio Daniels (expiring, might resign)
Chris Quinn (expiring, gone)
SG
Evan Turner
Allen Iverson (expiring, most likely gone)
Jodie Meeks (expiring, resign if price is right)
SF
Thad Young
Derrick Brown (was a throw in with Charlotte but is playing amazing for me, expiring but will resign)
Jason Kapono (expiring, most likely gone)
PF
Elton Brand
Maurice Speights
C
Spencer Hawes
Nazr Mohammed (expiring, most likely gone)
My salary on the books for next season is only $21.87M, leaving $37M in cap room. I think the team is in great position to make themselves into contenders for the future.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)
Just about finished with year 1 of my Cavs association. I am playing the 29 game season so I can do multiples and build up my team. Right now I am 9-18 with 2 games left and in next to last in the Eastern Conf. so no playoffs for me.
I did make two moves right before the trade deadline. I made a pact with myself to only use the trade finder for any trades. I traded Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon to Minnesota for Martell Webster and their 2011 2nd rounder. Then I traded Leon Powe and my 2012 2nd rounder to Golden State for Brandan Wright.
I got younger and more athletic with these moves. I have a bigger body with Wright down low swapping with Anderson Varejao and JJ Hickson. Also now I have a 6'8 scorer at SF who can hit 3's in Martell Webster. Both have worked out well until Webster broke his ankle last game and is out for the rest of the year.
As of now here are my scoring leaders.
A.Jamison 17.9 PPG 7 RPG
M.Williams 15.8 PPG 9.5 APG
A.Varejao 13.4 PPG 7.3 RPG
D.Gibson 10.8 PPG
J.Hickson 9.1 PPG 7.9 RPG
I named and modified all draft prospects for the upcoming draft using info from a few websites and am looking forward to adding some pieces via the draft and free agency.
Good fun but frustrating losing so many games and usually by blowing leads and stupid turnovers!Comment

I can't wait to start my new New Jersey Nets franchise with the addition of Deron Williams!
For once I am going to keep it completely legitimate, since I finally have two great players to build around.Comment
