Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Well, I decided to go with the Thunder for my association. As soon as I started the season I noticed Nate Robinson was wanting more time and a bigger role so I went ahead and dealt him for Goran Dragic and a 2nd round draft pick. I scheduled a little shoot around before my first game of the season and what do you know.. I lose Westbrook for 3 weeks. Then during the season opener... Ibaka gets hurts his ankle. So I'm 3 games into the season and currently sitting 1-2.

Durant is averaging 34 points in the first 3 games but I can't win games with just him. I can't wait to get a healthy line-up!

You've got a defensive team with OKC Keep the ball with Westbrook or Durant, but Harden is a nice 3-points shooter too

I found Harden is only a good 3-point shooter if he's open and you get his shot release down. If it's contested of your shot is off, he'll hit front iron and miss.

I've toyed with one before. If you start one, I recommend trading for Jermaine O'Neil and a young center behind him to develop. Jermaine remains solid for a few seasons and is actually pretty good on this game. Having him you should be a legitimate title contenders (in this game at least) right away.

Conflicted what I should do in my Sonics association. Here are the 2 lineups (about 30 games into the 2nd season, a few games over .500)

            PG: Heinrich (73) / Crittington (64)
            SG: Harden (79) / Cook (62)
            SF: Gallinari (79) / Barnes (70)
            PF: Boozer (85) / Warrick (65)
            C: R. Lopez (70) / Pryzbilla (66)

            OR (after some trades)

            PG: Heinrich (73) / Crittington (64)
            SG: C. Lee (73) / Cook (62)
            SF: Gallinari (79) / Nocioni (66)
            PF: Odom (77) / Mensa-Bosu (63)
            C: Bynum (83) / Pryzbilla (66)

Not sure which file I should continue with. I traded Harden / Barnes to the 76ers for Turner (Who I changed to a SF). This gives the 76ers another shooter right away and they can move Iggy to the 3. Then I traded Boozer to the Rockets for C. Lee / Scola / A pick maybe (I dunno). This one is a bit iffy but they lost Yao in FA and had Hayes starting at C so now they run with the smaller combo of Patterson / Boozer. Then I spun Scola / Turner to the Lakers for Bynum / Odom (maybe were smaller pieces/picks here). Lakers get a SF in the future in Turner to replace the aging Artest, and to take the scoring load off of Bryant down the road. They also dump the unhappy Odom, but now have a soft as heck combo of Scola / Gasol starting.

Did these trades since Gallinari is a FA in the off-season and due for a huge contract as well as Lopez. Also, Harden is a FA in the NEXT off-season and would be up for some serious cash. Plus I was losing on the boards consistently with R. Lopez starting at C (his defensive rebounding starts out horrible, even with his hustle/height) and Boozer (who gets his 8-10 but not easily). Tried to develop Lopez as a starter but have given up a bit due to how bad he is on the D boards. Bynum gives me a star Center for the future, even though he will have to be seriously paid. Lee is a solid starting SG on this game with great D and good 3-point shooting, but is 26 and won't move much really.

Also, this would open up some room for CP3 if he is available and NEXT year's FA class. I've been developing Crittington and love him in this game so probably wouldn't go this route (plan on starting him next season, or maybe even this year since I can trade Heinrich for an unhappy JET and give the Mavs a real PG behind Kidd).

            Any suggestions?

I definitely like Hinrich/Harden more than Hinrich/Lee, but Bynum Odom is a much better frontcourt than Lopez/Boozer.

Considering contracts, however, it seems you have a pretty solid plan in place and did well to try and dodge some hefty contracts going forward. Bynum is already getting paid pretty high, so when it comes time to sign him back on it wont be TOO much of a shell-shock (as opposed to say transitioning from a players rookie contract to their "Ok I'm not a rookie anymore and I can make more than 15 ppg sign me for all you got" contract. I like that you kept Galo.

Perhaps with that cap you've saved, you can move for a VERY good PF since you want to start Critter-man. Odom isn't getting any younger, and his contract is also ticking.

Looking at your bench, you definitely could use some scoring off of it, and JET would be a very good addition. Especially if you can move Hinrich for him, opening up space for Crit.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Just lost Tyreke Evans 8 minutes into my game against the Suns for 1-2 weeks. First my trainer said during the game it was a lower back strain and he would be out 1-2 weeks but after a couple days of rest it is just back spasms and he can still play but his overall goes from 86 to 78. I think I'm just gonna let him rest to avoid making it worse. Looks like rookie Travis Leslie will see a nice increase in PT for the next few games. He did well after Evans went down in the Suns game. He is my only true shooting guard besides Evans so I will have to play Jimmer Fredette at SG some and maybe Casspi.

It's gonna be a tough stretch without our leader but I think Cousins can carry the load. He had 28 and 7 in the game against the Suns and we will need him to score like that every game until Tyreke gets back. As for the Suns, their loss to us put them at 0-8 for the season and Alvin Gentry was fired right after the game.

The Kings are now 7-1 but we are finally getting to a tough stretch in our schedule and it will be without Tyreke. Our next game is against the Bulls. Derrick Rose is averaging 37.6 ppg through 9 games so I am a little scared especially knowing he will be guarded by rookie Jimmer Fredette. If we hold him under 40 I might consider it a good defensive effort!

                    Sacramento Kings (6-8) @ Minnesota Timberwolves (4-7)

                    - 69

Fantastic and fun game from the Kings. Tyreke Evans scored a season high 25, going PERFECT from three, 6-6. Everyone was working hard and doing great. Tyreke commented in the posted interview in my blog that he was hot all game long, and the Timberwolves never adjusted.

Great win, looking forward to trying to get a win against the Pacers, losing our last encounter.

Update: Grizzlies snap Heat's 8 game win streak, putting the heat at 10-3 and the Grizzlies 10-6.

Thanks for the feedback. Wanted to keep Galo because he is absolutely money from deep and I can drop 20+ from him fairly easily. Been working on his D each month and once that gets up to a high level he is all-star material. Going to take over 100 mil though so that will eat up a good bit of space.

Crittington is awesome on this game, I suggest you try him out. Potential to be a 6'5 version of Rose, starts out with terrible awareness / defense / shooting from med and deep, but like 75 passing. High dunk and vert, very raw but fun (love finding a guy like this to build up over time in association). Throw him an untapped potential and do shooting/challenge shot drills and he improves quickly. Should be a 70 by the start of next season at 24.

Think I'll stick with Heinrich (until the off-season at least, looking like he will test the waters). Traded for Raja Bell since Lee went down for 2-4 weeks (similar type of player and can be a good bench player for a year or two unless he retires).

My bench is pretty weak, but I can drop 15 with Crit usually. Might move Nocioni before the deadline as I can't get his shot down (which is hurting me). Pops is just a hustle guy (which I love), and Pryzbilla just boards off the bench. Odom is just a stopgap and I might look for a slight upgrade in the off-season or draft someone there (still have a 1st rounder).

Did some team switching to fix some of the terrible GM decisions in the off-season (better late than never.. things like the Pacers signing Yao and drafting Irving despite having Collison / Hibbert.. sigh). Had the Mavs trade Terry and Marion to Cavs for Baron Davis and a pick I believe. Gives the Mavs a 1-year stopgap PG when Kidd retires in the off-season. Terry is starting for the Cavs, plus they dump Marion's contract (who is starting for the poor Cavs now too). Davis is starting now too since Beaubois got hurt, moved Brewer to SF).

                      Association mode is too addicting!

Well I played a few more games in my Thunder season. We were on a 2 game losing streak but Durant has been picking up the slack while Westbrook and Ibaka are out with injuries. Durant is averaging 32 a game right now and easily leading the league.

I'm thinking about making a small trade soon and getting a relief SF so Durant can have a few extra minutes rest once westbrook and Ibaka come back. Cook has been his relief and he's really not a good option.

Any ideas on a SF benchwarmer I can pick up that isn't absolute garbage on defense. He will have to be a benchwarmer though.

I'm rolling with the Portland Trailblazers! Using Rashidi's Rosters on PS3

                          Season 1 Lineup:
PG: Andre Miller, Patty Mills, Armon Johnson
                          SG: B-Roy, J.R. Smith
SF: G-Wall, Nicolas Batum, Gary Forbes
                          PF: LMA, J.J. Hickson
C: Marcus Camby, Javale McGee, Kosta Kufous

I know what you are thinking, I completely destroyed the team by trading away guys like Mathews, Fernandez, Babbit, and Oden. But now I have my future Center who won't be injured 24/7, a very good backup PF in Hickson, and one of the best scorers off the bench in JR Smith...Oh and I also snagged the Cavs 1st round pick.

So at the end of year 1, we were bounced out of the playoffs in the second round by the #1 seed Denver Nuggets in 7 games. (Denver went on to win the title).

Crazy offseason, everyone either didn't want to resign or I didn't want to resign them. By the end of the resigning period, i had only 5 players on the roster...Roy, Wallace, LMA, McGee, and Kufous. I ended up having the best draft and free agent period I could ever think of and after making a couple trades at the beginning, by the start of the next season this was my roster:
PG: Kemba Walker, Nate Robinson, Maalik Wayns
SG: B-Roy, Jason Richardson, Tyler Honeycutt
SF: G-Wall, Luke Babbit (got him back!)
                          PF: LMA, Al Harrington
C: Javale McGee, Nenad Kristic, Kosta Kufous

I know i can use some help at PF, C off the bench but my PG, SG, and SF are all off the chain! I just started this season and am 8-2 to kick it off.

Brandon Roy's potential rating is a B+ yet this past offseason he did not develop in any category. Most everyone else improved but how come the player with the highest potential rating on my team doesn't change at all???

Did he progress through-out the season? I notice some players going up 2 or 3 overall through-out the season.

Also, Fernandez is a player I look to acquire/keep most of the time because if you work with him in shooting drills he becomes one of the most consistent players I've come across behind the arc.

Keeping McGee is the best undertoned thing you did. I have him on my Wiz and he is a defensive BEAST. Led the league in blocking in my first association season.
