Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Ok, this might be a long post but bear with me please. I've been around for a bit on the forums and I see that a lot of you are very knowledgeable about the game and the NBA in general and I was hoping you could give me some ideas as I tackle a new project on association.

      The story:

First the owners threatened with firing all players and voiding their contracts. The players reply was that they would all take their talents elsewhere if that were to happen, noting the constant search of teams in other leagues for NBA talent. They had yet another meeting centering around the real problem: player contracts not on par with player talent, the real reason that owners are losing money. In order to make things somewhat fair and finally end the lockout, they proposed a solution which both parties agreed on: the dispersal draft!

The way it will work is that all players will be "fired" off their current teams and released of their contracts and all teams will hold on to 8 of their players. Once they have picked they will draft from the remaining players and free agents until they have a full roster. "It's a fresh start for everyone." said commissioner David Stern, but sadly not for everyone, as all rookies picked on this years draft that were supposed to enter the league this season will not. This in part due to the lockout extending over the summer circuit period. (because I can't download draft classes nor have the patience to make one, so all seasons will have computer generated rookies.) To offset this, the order of the dispersal draft will be fixed and based on last seasons standings, from worst to best record.

The only rookie that will play this season is Ricky Rubio, who unless the draft changes it, will most likely start the point for the Minesotta Timberwolves. (because I created him.) Future Hall of Famer and new TNT commentator Shaquille O'Neal said: "Well, I guess we know who the Rookie of the Year is going to be." On the bright side, comissioner Stern also commented:" Although the summer circuit and the preseason were affected by the lockout, the season will start on time." (I will play the 10-11 season as the 11-12 season and so on.) "That's great news for all of us. Players, staff and specially the fans!"- said recently crowned Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki, who will no doubt want to repeat his teams post season success. We'll have to wait for the season to begin on (--/--/--) to satisfy our NBA hunger but the dispersal draft on (--/--/--) will help mitigate that.

This is a little project I'd like to try out while I wait for 2k12 and the next NBA season. It's gonna be a fixed fantasy draft but as I explained it before not just random picking or at least until all teams have the "keepers" so to speak. I'll discuss the settings later I just wanted to know if anyone would follow, if it was kinda realistic at all and I'm very open to ideas or any criticism or feedback. I would like to know what players each team is most likely to keep, or which they would pursue later in the draft, etc. Thanks for reading!

Derrick Rose injured his knee against the Clippers, Sore knee day-to-day(rating dropped from 97 to an 83) orginally I was going to just sit him out for the rest of the game and the next game but I put him back in to give Dragic a rest in the 3rd quarter and Rose went ahead and scored 21 points and put the game out of reach finished with 33pts 4rebs 13ast so i think i'll just leave him as the starter

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

I downloaded some newer rosters with the newly drafted rookies (E'twaun, JaJuan, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, etc etc), and I started a fantasy draft association. I'm controlling the Kings and doing CPU vs CPU. I'm in the middle of watching a game right now as we take on the Mavericks who coincidently drafted Dirk Nowitzki in the fantasy draft. I'll get back on my starting 5 later after the game is over as it is too hard to figure out who is starting and who my bench players are lol. We're trailing by 5 against the Mavs in the 4th right now, but there is still time for us to pull a comeback and win this game. I'll be back in 10-15 minutes.

EDIT: Alright, so my starting line-up is:

              PG- Derrick Rose/Patrick Mills
              SG- E'Twaun Moore/Brandon Rush
              SF- Chris Singleton/Davis Bertans/Devin Ebanks
              PF- Carl Landry/JaJuan Johnson
              C- Marcus Camby/Joel Anthony/Joel Przybilla

We lost 111-97 to Dallas. Dirk Nowitzki and Joe Johnson just tore up that game. Dirk got MVP, with 45 points, 16 rebounds, and crazy shooting lol. Next game is against the Jouston Rocket who have a pretty nice line-up as well. They have Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Jameer Neldon, Tyson Chandler, and Dorell Wright as they're starting five. Hopefully we can find a way to win this game.

James Naismith visited an Indiana basketball state finals game along with 15,000 screaming fans and later wrote, that while it was invented in Massachusetts, "basketball really had its origin in Indiana, which remains the center of the sport."

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Started my Magic association and my record is good so far, but everything else is not going too well.
First thing I did was trade Daniel Orton for a first round pick from the Raptors, they offered, surprisingly. My very first game against the Wizards Jameer Nelson gets hit with abdomen strains and is out for 1-2 weeks. No problem right? I have Gilbert and Duhon for back up. I signed Kelenna Azubuike, when he's healthy, he is a BOSS at shooting 3's. We beat the Wizards and the very next game, Brandon Bass goes down for 1-2 weeks with a bruised tailbone. The Heat fouled him hard. It was a close game until the end of the third quarter, where Azubuike went off and had 32 for the game going 8-11 on three pointers. 2-0 is our record on Superstar difficulty, still doing good. The NEXT game against the Knicks, Azubuike gets hit with a sore wrist on a weak hit from Douglas. Hurt Day-to-Day, his stats aren't hit too hard. We come away with another W. Gilbert Arenas is playing great basketball. That is until the fourth game of the year when he was drawing a charge. Falls wrong on his wrist and sprains it, and is gone for 2-4 weeks.

Isn't this ridiculous? After the game against the Heat I made a trade

                Magic Receive:
                Serge Ibaka
                2012 1st round pick

                Thunder Receive:
                Earl Clark
                2011 1st round pick
                2012 2nd round pick
                2012 1st round pick

I have 4 picks still from the draft pick trading cheese: 2 first rounders from Raptors and Clippers and 2 second rounds from the same teams.

Thoughts on these injuries and trades?

Gilbert with a sprained wrist on his shooting hand and he's supposed to be out for 2-4 weeks! But he continued playing god knows why. It was a hard fought game with the.....the Timberwolves, but a close game nonetheless. We were down by 8 with about 2 minutes left and Gilbert and JJ Redick went off. We ended up being down by 3 with 7 seconds left. (Beasly hit a 3 to put them up.) I always give the ball to Redick or Azubuike in crunch time, Azubuike was injured. I ended the time out and accidentally subbed Redick out and but Gilbert back in....smh. I didn't realize it until I inbouded the ball to my shooting gaurd....not Redick, it was Richardson, who was having a terrible game. I panicked and passed it out to Gilbert at the top of the key, not being a great 3 point shooter and the injury knocking his stats down by 14, hit the game tying shot to send us into over time! It was insane!

^^^^^^From the same game. Single Overtime. It all started out just as normal. After Gilbert hit that three I felt like he could make anything and he went 0-3 in Overtime, not smart on my part. I went down by 7 and subbed my three point squad in to the game (JJ Redick, and Kelenna Azubuike) Buike wasn't doing too hot this game, so I gave the ball to Redick and ran two 3 point plays for him, he knocked both of the shots down to cut the lead to 3. (They scored again) I ran down court with Gilvert to make it a 2 for 1 possession and Euro Stepped around Kevin Love to cut it to a single point. The next possession, Dwight fouled Love and he hit both of his free throws with 4.2 seconds left. With no timeouts, I thought I was doomed. I in-bounded the ball to JJ and he raced down court and pulled up for three, hitting the game tying shot, Double overtime, here we come.

Okay, this is starting to get a little ridiculous.... Started the quarter out on a 6-0 run in my favor. After that everyone went ice cold. Johnny Flynn hit back to back triples, and Randolf had a cheese 3 point play, sank the free throw and 17 seconds were on the clock and we were down by three again... Gilbert came in 2OT wanting to score he was actually the only one that did, he went 3-4 from deep and everyone else went 0-4. I ran to the top of the arch and waited for the time to strike 1 second. And he hit yet another game tying shot to send us into triple overtime. I'll upload to show you guys, since this sounds kind of cheesy. My voice is gone from screaming, haha

EDIT: The game ended and the score was 108-112, Magic. It played 7 minute quarters, and the score was that high. Nothing gets my heart raced up more than a close game on NBA 2K11.

Association can be frustrating sometimes. I'm at the stage of my Thunder association where guys are wanting contract extensions, and Eric Maynor is asking for EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.

                        A 73OVR 25yr old that plays 12 minutes a night wants 8mil a year for 4+ years.

I don't see why basketball games keep getting this wrong with players wanting unreasonable contracts.

Haha, if your team had the old Bobcat management they'd give him that salary, for years and years, and even throw in a player option, so your team is tied down for years( See D.Diop ) lol

I agree with you. There needs to be some cap for players who will never demand the big bucks
The way to build a good team is not to load it with star players, but to load it with players who play well together with an identity

Started one with the Clippers, with the rosters after draft:
I am 5-8, and now I traded Mo Will who is playing very bad, he is being a Turnover machine, for Jameer Nelson and a second round pick.
Find a nice sixth man in Mike Dunleavy, he is my X factor, and Aminu is being very irregular.
I want a 70-75 ovr SF who can shoot and rebound, Defense doesn't matter.Who could I sign??

Sign Kelenna Azubuike, he is a three point MACHINE. He led my association in three point percentage and is very consistent. I want to say he's a 72 overall. He's awesome, always the first player I sign.

Bobcats Association. 82 games, Pro/sim, 9 minute quarters.

To start off, I forced the Hornets and Trailblazers to trade me their 1st round picks in 2011 and 2013 (respectively) to mirror the Gerald Wallace to Portland trade. Down the road in my first season I traded the Hornets pick to the Wizards. Finished tied for 8th and just outside of the playoffs. Fast forward to the draft lottery, I hit the jackpot: with 6.2% I landed the 1st overall pick. Got Kyrie Irving. Then somehow was able to convince the Clippers to trade me the 2nd overall pick for 2 2011 1st rounders, a 2012 1st rounder, and an expiring contract. Got Derrick Williams.

The next season, I finished 2nd in the East and went all the way to the Finals, where I lost to the Lakers in 5. I didn't have any draft picks, so that's that.

Now this season. After some intense wheeling and dealing I know how FOUR 1st round draft picks (Bobcats, Portland, Pacers, and Houston, which I got for trading Reggie Williams who I picked up on a 1 year FA deal....). Right now I'm 7th in the east with 30~ games played, though I simmed about 20 of them.

                                Here are my lineups:
                                PG-DJ Augustin/Kyrie Irving
SG-Gerald Henderson/Antoine Wright (who is a GREAT FA, and cheap too)
                                SF-Steven Jackson/Dante Cunningham (underrated)/Dominic McGuire
                                PF-Tyrus Thomas (BEAST)/Derrick Williams/DJ White/Troy Murphy
                                C- Kwame Brown/DeAndre Jordan.
