Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread

Just got my first Player of the game. Felt great. I also got my first Magazine cover. Nice to see I'm getting a little love.

I went to look at the latest transactions to see what's going on around the league. I get there and see that the Knicks trade Carmelo Anthony for Mike Conley and Rudy Gay. Didn't really like this trade, but then I thought about it and we just keep getting younger and younger. I'll miss Melo, though.

    PG: Mike Conley.
    SG: Brandon Roy.
    SF: Rudy Gay.
    PF: Manny Ford. (MP)
    C: LaMarcus Aldridge.
Bench: Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, James Anderson, Tony Douglas..

Hopefully we don't trade anyone else. But if we did, I'd be down to trade Artest for another PF/C. We're lacking Big Men.

That in mind, lets talk about the reasons my player was made.

-SO YOU CAN RUN THE NBA!!!! You are the up and coming superstar. Last year, and the year before, You could be dominant out of the gate. In 2k10, all I did was run under the hoop, get the rebound, and lay it up, until I got my standing dunk up, and then I was booming it left and right... Running in for the crazy dunks. Needless to say, after the first year, I was ROY, an NBA champion, Finals MVP, etc... There was no point continuing on. Just make a new guy... It was SO easy to upgrade and be the best in your first year...

-SO YOU CAN LEARN THE GAME!!!! Believe it or not, after playin NBA 2k10 MP mode (Debut year)... I came back into the regular game play against friends and what not, and found my self beating people I dont normally beat. Being in MP mode gave the know how on iso, post, positioning, movement etc. MP is a great way to learn how to play the game individually, as well as team wise...

Now, this years MP is awesome. And I will tell you why. I AM STRUGGLING! Yes, I said it, I came out of the gate, in the showcase, and got molly whopped all over the court. Like, 6 points 2 rebounds type ish, however I had a good teammate grade.

I get into the league, my squad sucks, due to bad chem, which you can check in the "My Buzz" section in your my player to see how well you are fairing around the league... ANYWHO, this is my conclusion on MP, and why I love it.

You have to work for your individual SP... Wether it be, buying the packages/sp/boosts... or earning them playing game after game. I like this, because it tells me that I will actually have to work hard my first year, just to make a difference. I like this, because I wont put my controller down after a season. I will probably play all 17 seasons just to make it to the Hall of Fame...

The upgrading of abilities comes next. Last year, all you needed was a mid range and dunking, and you were golden... This year, you can have a mid range and a dunk, but if you dont have the ability to pull them off, whats the point. Abilities are awesome, once I played like 10 games, and saved up, I got the dribble pull up. Couple that with my 70 mid range, and 70 shoot in traffic, and I am a monster in the mid. So when I pump, and they jump, I drive right through the hoop and bang away.

Now, the only thing that pisses me off, is the bumping, as I cut through, in, out, and around the paint. I can understand a nudge... But if Im 6'10'' 245, running full speed, I should NOT be stop cold in motion by raymond felton, who then stands there with all wait leaned upon me, as if he's trying to hold the door shut so I wouldn't come into his room. My solution for this is to "A" let go of turbo, or "B" run around the outsides/behind the basket. Becareful doing that, because you will get caught by the ref, broom boy, slip on some ice, and have a fan throw a beer at you, all while trying to get back on the court... haha...

The key to this years MP, is to remain patient. It took me a few games, but now that I have my dribble pull up, and hesitation abilities to average, I can create space, and shoot off the dribble. If you wanna dunk, you gotta shoot...

And speaking of Dunking... everybody wants to know why their guy doesn't dunk... its all about the dunk attribute, and ability. And if you're standing under the rim with a 7ft back to the basket center, and wondering why he wont jump and dunk... its because is dunk is low, and so is his standing dunk. Stupid, I know, but thats the only reason why you can't just dunk out right with a giant bohemian...

But all in all... Patience is key... you will get frustrated... just answer press with teammate positive answers... (X botton on 360, and Square on PS3), and your team chem will be up, and your guys will be playing like superstars... got drafted to the warriors... we are like 4 and 11 or some dumb ish... But we are getting better and better... When I am elite enough, I will murder... too bad I wont win on my first year, however, we might make the play offs, the way things have been looking up...
great post....i can feel ur enthusiasm thru the words...i like it bro!!!!

For anyone that has played a decent amount of the first season, do any of the rookies that are drafted actually play? I've only played two games so far, but I went to "rookie report" to check to see how the other rookies are doing and the only three rookies are me, Rubio, and some 26 year old guy.

Nope. I've played the entire first regular season, I'm in the finals now getting creamed by the Heat, and none of the rookies are on any roster it seems. At one point, it was three in the race for ROY, me, Rubio, and somebody else, then the other guy disappeared and it was just me and Rubio. We traded Rookie of the Month awards for the West and the East didn't have any. There was also no Rookie Challenge as far as I know. Kinda depressing because now, the only real rival who I came in the league with is Rubio.

I am just playing key games for my PG. Using drills, I got Speed to 89 and Layup to 88. I have Shot Med to 75. I will get that to 90. I have to find a way to get shots off without having to drive. Next 5 boosts will be Shot Close, Inside, In Traffic, On-Ball Defense, and FT(in no order). Probably do Shot in Inside and In traffic first since most of my points will come in the paint.
I like that there is separate abilities that dont tie in with ratings like iso moves and shot types. But, I think it is WAY TOO expensive. It is hard to rack up points. I cant really save points up because have other important ratings to boost. I dont really like that you dont much skill points using money. If it was 10000, I could deal with it. I would have to wait for a point where I am comfortable with my game to boost my ISO moves.

I waited until there was a custom roster with rookies in it to start my MPs. It is good to see real rookies playing. Kyrie and Kemba avg 20+ in both of my MPs, but most of the other rookies are under 15. I wouldnt of deserved to win ROY with my SF. I might go to Cleveland once my SF is a FA to pair with Irving.

Wow, there's a huge glitch in My Player. If you win the NBA Finals, the game freezes. It's happened to me 5 times.

Went to NBA Finals against Heat, won in 7 games, and after the game, when you click to go to the post game press conference it stays on the Loading, Please Wait screen.... After the first two times, I made sure I saved in the fourth quarter just so I didn't have to play the whole game again, and it's still doing it every time.

I'm sure it's been asked, but how much does imporving your abilities (fadeaway, hopstep layup, etc) help? Because nearly 15k seems excessive unless it's actually THAT useful.

My guy has been on a roll lately. 6 of the last 9 scoring over 20. 7 of the last 9 with at least 5 assist. Although my rebounding has taken a major hit since I got in the starting lineup. Can't seem to get more than 5 anymore.

Besides ISO moves, not really unless you do special moves. Like fadeaways, euro lay-up, spin layup/shot, special post moves. ISO moves are only abilities Im buying.

                              Miracle Man does it again.

After having a solid rookie year and winning rookie of the year, it was Miracle Man and the 4th seed Philadelphia 76ers vs Dwight Howard and the 5th seed Orlando Magic.

I decided to sim to key game, like i did all season, and Miracle Man arrived in Orlando down 3-2 in a pivotal Game 6.

Midway through the 2nd quarter, Dwight lands awkwardly on his ankle and has to leave for the rest of the game. Miracle Man took advantage, going off for 49pts 8rbds 6asts and 5blks to send the series to Game 7 back home in Philly.

At the tip-off, Miracle Man was shocked to see Dwight right there too. He literally just had a severe ankle sprain two days earlier, but no matter. Dwight did not have any effect in the end.

What did effect Miracle Man was a slow start and terrible defense from his teammates. Nate Robinson acted like it was his job to leave Gilbert Arenas wide open for three all game, and Gilbert basically carried the Magic all game.

Down by three, with about 20 seconds left in our season, Miracle Man got the ball in the low post and shot his patented fade way to cut it to one. They make both free throws, and down by three again. Decidng to rely on his teammates for a miracle, Miracle Man inbounds the ball with seven seconds to Kevin Martin, who passes to Andre Igodola who drains the three to extend our season by at least five minutes.

In OT, Miracle Man takes over. Every possession, his teammates feed him the ball and he delivers. With thirty seseconds left, we are up by two, but appantely Miracle Man is the only 76er who realizes all the Magic do is shoot threes, and Hedo Turkolu, wide open, drains a three. 128-127. Timeout.

Miracle Man inbounds and then posts up and receives the ball. As the clocks ticks down, he launches his patented fade way for his first career buzz beater that just happened to be in his first OT and first game 7. I guess that's why they call him Miracle Man

Fitting he's on the cover that talks about how unstoppable Carolina will be.

Down 10 in the fourth. After a 9 point first quarter, I went about 1 for 8 in the next two quarters. But started off the fourth quarter right with an easy layup. Then in the following minutes nailed a 3, elbow jumper, 3, and another 3 to tie the game (second straight game he nailed a 3 with 30 seconds left to tie the game).

Couldn't get the stop, so down 2 with 13 seconds to go. Decided I didn't want to take this into OT. My dude is hot and I'm going for the win! Top of the key with Brandon Roy (traded to the Kings ) guarding him. I hold the ball to about 6 seconds left. Jab right, jab right, take a step to the right getting Roy on my right side, then cross over back to the left to take the 3 for the win...

                                Clank.

Anyhow, what are you guys aiming for in the interviews? I'm going team chem and national pop foremost, screwing my local pop in the process. Up to 73 team chem, 60-ish national pop, and high 30's for local.

Oh, and my team traded Jrue... Not sure what we got back, but looks like Mayo and Arthur. Wtf.
