Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread

Thank you for the responses guys. Do you have any idea what the cap is on medium and 3 pt shot for an athletic pg? I know that's a ridiculously specific question, but I am hoping someone out there knows...or has a way of finding out.

    Thanks again for the info!

The ratings cap question is mainly so I can figure out what type of PG I'm going to be this year. Because of the ratings cap last year (2k11), I went with athletic in order to have a shot at 99 speed. I'm hoping to find out what the deal is w/ this years title...

Thanks in advance for any thoughts guys!
Steph Curry shooting form and 12 base is nice

          The Dawn of an Era...

          Name: J'Waan Smith
Height: 6'2 (Gave myself an inch, pretty sure I'm around 6'1
          Weight: 190
          Position: PG
          College: Illinois
Playing type: Scorer - Really wanted to create a PG who could match up with the new athletic PGs like Rose, Westbrook, and John Wall. Plus, personally I like to drive and shoot mid-range shots anyway so this play type was perfect for me.

Note: If you want to know where I was drafted immediately, just go towards the end of this post. Thought up sort of a story to the process. So, here goes...

Basically, the game was very close in the 1st half. Both teams traded blows, and went back and forth on small runs. However, what changed the game actually happened at the end of the 1st half, where I hit a buzzer beater 3 pointed that pulled us within 2 (Yes, we were actually LOSING ). Nevertheless, this gave us momentum in the 2nd half, because we went on a 10-2 run to start the 3rd quarter. However, they managed to pull back yet again, as I had a pair of bad turnovers that led to points. Their SG (can't remember his name) would not quit, hitting a couple 3 pointers that kept narrowing down the lead, but I made 4 consecutive FTs in the final seconds to hold on for the W.

Stats: 19 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 block, 6-6 FT (No cheese either, ran best play every time, or had the CPU run one).

GS interview: Essentially tanked this one on purpose. Wasn't interested in playing behind Steph Curry and Monta, but told the GM it would be nice to learn from them. Nevertheless, he decided I wasn't a fit for the Warriors.

Milwaukee interview: Tanked this too. Their GM came straight out and said Brandon Jennings was their PG of the future, so I told them I had to interest in playing behind or competing with him for the job. Plus, Skiles has a F in offensive coaching. No thanks.

Utah Interview: The Jazz immediately let me know they felt I could be their PG of the future, and I told them I felt the same way. They said if I fell to them, they would take me.

Draft night came, and I was projected to go 11th to GS. A proficient scorer, but there were questions about my maturity and character. Thoughts went into my head, as I could've lied and said I would love MIL for more money as a top 10 pick, plus I didn't want to go to GS under any circumstances. I would force my way out if I did.

However, both MIL and GS passed on me, and I got picked 12th by Utah! Ironically, the guy who's considered the heir apparent to Deron Williams is also coming out of The Univ. of Illinois!

After signing my 2-year rookie contract, I assessed the current roster. I noticed that Devin Harris could really be a stop gap with only 2 years on his contract, giving me an opportunity to learn from a NBA vet. Also, we have a great young core with Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward, giving us a potential young "Big 3" of the future if they pan out (and if I decide to stay ) Nevertheless, this is an opportunity to grow into a starter and better player. And so it begins...

How are you guys defending PG's?

I've been struggling lately. It's seems like all they do is Isomotion stepback constantly until I glitch out and start slowly side stepping the wrong way. At that time they either hit the open mid-range or drive to the hole and spin move layup or pass out.

My onball D is around 77 right now.

            Any suggestions?

When the CPU goes on the run...man they go on a run.

depending on what PG it is its different how you play them. most PGs cant shoot the 3 and drive. If they are a 3 ball shooter just get in their face and force a pass and if they are more of a dribble drive player just play off them and wait for them to make a move.

The Bobcats ended up granting my trade request and traded me to the team I had as option one...the Miami Heat!

Right before I got traded, I received player of the game three times in a row, and broke the team record for individual points scored in a single game for the Charlotte Bobcats. It was 43 points, but I scored 44. I then received the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for my incredible performances.

Anyways, I've now started two games with the Miami Heat and we have won both games.

Only downside to the whole trade thing is they had to trade Chris Bosh for Gerald Henderson and myself. Not quite as many options now, but it's still a lot easier to be able to pass it to Wade and LeBron, and not have to force up so many shots because my team can't make any shots.

Looking forward to moving forward with my team, the Miami Heat now!

The Knicks answered my prayers with trading Fields to the Spurs for James Anderson. Then a couple weeks later upgraded the SG with Brandon Roy with a throw in of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Knicks seems to make moves. I'm happy so far. I still think we need a legit PG. Douglas is terrible on Defense. He get rolled on.

Had my first double/double 17 games in.

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread

Just finished the first game of my career. Gonna post the stats since guys were complaining about opponents channeling the spirits of Ray Allen and Reggie Miller and I think I may have caught on to something!

                      UTAH (us): 95; HOU: 93

Personally, I had 8 points on 4-6 shooting, 1 reb, & 1 steal in 15 min. There was a lot of post abuse by the Jazz AI in this game, as Al Jefferson and Millsap combined for 31 points on 14-25 shooting, and 24 rebs. Houston shot a TON of 3s, which I sort of expected because Budinger, Martin, and Lowry can shoot em, as well as Courtney Lee. Here they are...

                      Key:
                      • FG% UTA 50%, HOU 43%
                      • 3PT%: UTA 41% (5-12) , HOU 36% (9-25)

I believe the key to these percentages was: WATCHING the GAME from the SIDELINES!

                      First Half: UTA FG 48%, 3PT 50%, HOU FG 53%, 3PT 54%
-Houston was on fire in the 1st half. Ran a balanced offense, as Scola was tearing it up inside as much as Budinger and Martin were outside. Team as a whole seemed to get a lot of open looks. At the end of the first half, Houston led 58-47 and it seemed sort of like another 2k11-type loss. Things changed big time, however...

                      2nd Half: UTA FG 51%, 3PT 33%; HOU FG 33%, 3PT 21%
-While we kept up our physical post play, chipping away at the lead, HOU became out of sync. They settled for a lot of bad shots. We outscored them 21-16 in the third, 27-19 in the 4th and were able to close it out. (Note: We ended up not being able to inbound the ball with 7.7 seconds left, which I was shocked and happy to see at the same time - the realism in the game is amazing. Kevin Martin went for the game-winning 3 and missed.

                      Houston:
                      • Lead scorer: Martin, 22 pts (Scola, 21)
                      • Assists: Lowry, 6
                      • Rebounds: C. Hayes, 11 (Scola, 10)

                      Utah:
                      • Scorer: Harris, 24 (Millsap/Jefferson comb. for 31)
                      • Ast: Millsap, 3 (4 other players w/ 2)
                      • Rebounds: Millsap, 13 (Jefferson, 11)

Again, I think the key is to watch the game from the sideline instead of simming. I could understand if you don't always feel like it, or if you don't have time, but watching from the sideline can be exciting, especially seeing your team get back in the game on a run, or maybe watching a player hit (or miss) a game-winning shot. This also plays into my next theory, based off of reading the boards - You must play as many games as possible, if not all, to minimize stupid trades.

I say this because I think teams trade based off of whats happening when the CPU plays. Possibly for some reason, the logic may be different when playing user games, and the CPU plays in real-time (ie, the updates at halftime) versus simming games at once. After the first game, the Timberwolves are shopping Martell Webster. Al-Farouq Aminu seems willing to go to Minnesota, and the Suns are interested too. Ill update after the 2nd game to see if anything changes.

I'm gonna post the stats from the second game against Memphis soon, with me mostly simming to my appearances to see if I caught onto something. I might test the key game logic, since I have backup saves in case my file corrupts. That would be a great way for you guys to test it too.

We(Houston) are 1.5 games back from 8th seed with like 6+ games left. We are really inconsistent. Some games I am the leading scorer and sometimes I get very cold. It depends on me to shoulder the load. I have Consistency at 95. I avg 13+ points a game. But, I am consistently now getting 18+. But, I still am missing alot of easy shots. We dont have any plays that I can score and get space easily. I have to find a way to create space before I shoot. I get matched up against good to great defenders nightly. I might either start doing more fadeaways or dribble pull-up. My Ball-handling and Ball Security is straight-up horrible. I think I am good at consistency to stop. I might max out shoot in traffic(at 85).
I am not sure what I will boost next. I am using drills to boost 3pt. So, I think next 4 ratings boosts will be Ball Security, On-Ball Defense, Vertical, and Off-Clutch. All really important for right now. Cutting down TOs, being able to lock down scorers, being able to get rebounds/contest better, and shoot better in clutch is important right now. I might start with Vertical, then On-Ball Defense. I doubt we get in play-offs.

2nd game in, and Utah beats Memphis (suprisingly) 92-70. Simmed to my appearances instead of watching, although I was doing homework so I watched a little. I shot lights out, scoring 17 points on 7-10 shooting (1-3 3PT). Also had 3 rebs, 2 asts, 2 blocks, but also 2 TOs.

                            MEM: FG 36%, 3PT 37%; UTA: FG 48%, 3PT 46%

Weren't a lot of 3s shot in this game, as we dictated our post play style, and it showed in the stats. 50 total rebounds (to Memphis' 35), 40 points in the paint. Jefferson and Millsap DOMINATED, combining for 30 plus points again (37). I was only other player in double digit scoring. Bench also chipped in (half of it me with 34 points). We also held Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo to a combined 6 points on 3-15 shooting.

                            MEM: scorer: Conley, 23

UTA lead scorer: Al Jefferson, 22 (Millsap, 15)

Also, these were the guys rumored to possibly be on the move: Kyle Korver (possibly to Indiana), Omri Casspi (possibly for Derrick Caracter of LAL, or to the Bulls), Wesley Matthews, in addition to Martell Webster (now the Jazz have interest ). Seems reasonable so far, but we'll see. Jazz are 2-0, and my minutes are increasing.

After 3rd game, we trade Andrei Kirilenko to Minnesota for Martell Webster and a 2nd round pick. We needed another scorer, since only Jefferson, Millsap, me, and Devin Harris were really only ones doing anything. Derrick Favors is in the doghouse, his playing time has been cut about 5-7 min., he's been ineffective.

Wes Matthews seems to be off the block, and Mario Chalmers may be on it.

Note: After simming to every appearance withOUT watching anything, Houston shot 12-20 from 3. I think Im on to something here.

Gonna start playing this tomorrow, as far as simulating, is it still you cant get points for simulating? It would be nice if you could get a prorated amount even when you simulate.
