Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
So unrealistic dude, winning MVps and championships in like 3 years.
Heres my experience from My Player,
Made a 6-7 Athletic PG 193 lbs called Walter Mitchell, did ok in the rookie showcase got drafted by the Suns. All is going well i'm enjoying playing learning and increasing my skills, then about 20 games in they trade Nash to Philly for Elton Brand and I'm starting, Ok cool, faith from the management, I likes. Of course it doesn't stop there and up until the trade deadline more trades than I can keep track of happen, Grant Hill gets sent to the Wizards, Gortat and Dudley go to the Pistons, VC goes back to the Magic for Arenas (lol) etc etc . By the deadline the team looks like;
Pg: Mitchell
Sg: Arenas
Sf: Childress
Pf: Brand
C: Amir Johnson
Bench CJ Miles Gordon Hayward Robin Lopez Jordan Crawford and some others
All in all we weren't terrible, Arenas is actually fun to play with as he'll always jack up a shot under just about any circumstances, Childress on the other hand never shoots despite having good ratings, Brand Johnson and Lopez are good garbage men and the bench is usually good for some 3's (Jordan crawford's jumper spins sideways, how is this even possible?)
Anyways we sneak into 7th in the playoffs with my guy Mitchell averaging 20ppg with 5 assists 2 rb 2 steals and face the nuggets. Nuggets proceed to absolutely stomp us in the first 3 games raining 3s and making life miserable, however we come back to force a game 7 which we lose in a close one, Oh well finished where we should have I suppose. Heat go on to beat the Mavs in a revenge Finals. By this stage My player is about 78 overall and is voted the rookie of the year ( not hard with 3 rookies but cool)
Sophomore season starts and the management makes a million more boneheaded trades making the team worse, culminating in trading for Craig Brackins who turns out to be the most egregious chucker I have yet seen, So Mitchell requests a trade about a month in,I request to go to Minnesota, Clippers or the Heat and surprise I get traded along with a rookie Pf to Miami for Bosh and Chalmers ( not sure how the number would work out but ok) So i'm taking my talents to South Beach. Line up is now;
Pgs Mitchell, Earl Boykins
Sgs Wade Miller
Sfs Lebron Shane Battier
Pfs Haslem and rookie from phoenix
Cs Ilgauskas, Mehmet Okur
plus a couple more rookies
This team is stacked and i have all sorts of fun throwing lobs to lebron and wade ( even miller sometimes) suprisingly no trades happen even though apparently Battier and Boykins are unhappy and we go on to win the east going 62-20. Mitchell is selected to his first all star team, and goes on to be named MVP, most improved player and 1st team all defense averaging 31 ppg 3rbs 5 assists and 3 steals.
We hit the playoffs and go 4-0 up to the finals where we meet the Nuggets, revenge!, who go down 4-2 and I'm off to the White House, although for some reason Speolstra doesnt come and we invite Stan Van Gundy instead. But wait it turns out management wasnt happy and Van Gundy is actually our new coach, ah well whatever coaches are just eye candy anyway.
Season 3 kicks off without Ilgauskas who retired in the offseason and about a month in I get all my skills maxed and i start simming everything thats not a key game, we trade Battier for Chase Budinger and now I have another gunner and another lob target, and Haslem is out Carl Landry is in and Miami is rolling on. And thats all the trades that happened (unheard of) We win the east again and I'm the MVP again and the Defensive player of the year to boot averaging 30ppg 5rpg 6 apg and 4.5 spg. We lose a couple of games in the playoffs but eventually we make the finals and dispatch the Clippers in 5.
And now its time to get paid, after avoiding the issue all year its time for someone to pony up some dough for the 2 time defending MVP, annnnnd Miami lets Lebron walk to New York and Signs Brandon Jenning to a 6 year contract leaving me with a 2,5 mill 1 year offer. Good thing the rest of the league has taken notice and I have other offers, but surprisingly they're not that great, Boston offers 4 years at 14 Million, Atlanta 5 at 13 New York 5 at 12.5 etc etc. At the end of the day though like so many free agents before me I'm off to LA to play for the Lakers (wanted to play for the Clippers but they didnt make an offer
Roster is:
Pgs Mitchell Steve Blake Jordan Farmar
Sgs Kobe Vince Carter
Sfs Dorell Wright AK47
Pf Pau and Odom
C Bynum
and another PG and SF drafted after I was.
First thing I noticed is I dont have to force the offense as much ball movement seems a lot better and assists are easier to come by, but noone at all seems to notice any alley oops being thrown (many turnovers were had before I just stopped throwing them) So we're winning alot and the management makes some good trades shipping Blake Farmar and VC out and bringing in Lance Staphenson and Chase Budinger. And then on the eve of the trade deadline the blockbuster trade that had to happen goes through and Pau gets sent to Utah for Ginobili and George Hill ( i tried to undo this trade but didnt have an appropriate save game
such is life though and we keep rolling on to a 71-11 record. Mitchell is again the MVP and 1st team Defense (DPOY is an up and coming PF from philly called Wesley Collins) with averages of 28ppg 6 rpg 8apg and 3.5 spg, also shot 0.986 from the charity stripe.
As expected we crush through the playoffs and dispatch Chris Paul's plucky Charlotte team for the personal 3 peat, and we're off to see Obama again, looks like he got a second term. But again the coach couldnt make it and Mike Brown got replaced by Alvin Gentry at the last second ( seems Championships are a professional hazard for coaches)
2015-16 has not been a great year so far, AK47 and Odom have retired over the summer and management has decided it to blow up the team:
Budinger and Stephenson get shipped to Cleveland for a young Centre and a second round pick rookie PF.
George Hill and our first round pick PF are sent to New York for a young Point Guard
And beyond this despite having a max contract Bynum is bitching that he's not getting enough love and 38yo Kobe is wanting a huge contract extension
Despite this we've managed to get to 22-13 through 35 games and 3rd in the west. And then after a win in Chicago the news came through, management was sending Ginobili and Wright to Toronto for Andrey Blatche and another PG
So now the team looks like:
Pg: Walter Mitchell 99 ovr
Wilson Schmidt 69 (from NY)
Alan Bullard 64 (from Toronto)
Alonzo Sandford 64 (LA draft pick in 2012)
Sg: Kobe Bryant 86 and falling rapidly
SF Mark Bradley 66 (LA 2013 pick and out with a broken jaw for 6 weeks)
PF Andrey Blatche 76
Earl Robinson 62 (from Cleveland)
Adrian Webber 55 (LA second round 2015)
Jonathan Powell 52 (another second round LA pick)
C Andrew Bynum 87
Rueben Cobb 73 (from Cleveland)
So thats the story so far.
Overall I'm actually enjoying My player with the exception of the games where the goal is lets say get 11 assists and your teammates refuse to shoot etc etc.
A few things I'd love to see better or changed though:
- The Draft - Not sure if this is just on PC but every year the draft is the same, Philly gets 1st pick and poor old Washington gets last going by alphabetical of the team names, this is just dumb and should be patched ( 76ers are currently 24-9 behind 4 1st overall picks and its only getting worse)
- Assists its frustrating for instance when you throw a lob and the defense gets a fingernail on it, not enough to stop the score and yep, no assist and a bad pass to boot, also if you dump it inside and the bigman bobbles it for 1/2 a second then turns around and dunks, no assist, pet peeve I suppose
- Rebounds, way to many bounce over the backboard and out of bounds
And of course the trade logic is ******** and it'd be nice to be able to play with sliders but everyone already said that.
Overall I've had fun with this guy but trades are annoying me and my tip would be try and get on a good team as everything seems so much more fun when you're winning your teammates even seem to play better
