By FAR the biggest, and perhaps the only real reason I don't play past the first year in Association and My Player is because after the first year, the league gets polluted with terribly, automatically created fake players. It's an abomination to both modes.
What I would love to see happen, and I have to imagine it's absolutely possible (I'll explain below), is for 2K to let you start your career or association in, say, the 2000-2001 season. At the end of each of the next ten seasons, the draft classes are 100% the same as they were in real life, but depending on which teams pick where, and what teams need, players get drafted live instead of the order they went in back in the day.
How could this possibly not be too much work for 2K? Because THEY'VE ALREADY DONE IT. Correct me if I'm wrong, since I've only bought 2K10, 2K11, and 2K12, but this series goes back to the early 2000s, yes? And in each game, there was the full rookie class of players, like LeBron James as a rookie in 2K4. Right? So bringing in so many rookies, year after year, should be a breeze since 2K has already created most (if not all) of their likenesses, and they've come up with stats for each of their attributes.
EDIT: Also, players might develop differently based on where they play, how they're coached, and how many minutes they play. Iverson, McGrady, Hill, Arenas, Redd could all realize what their true potential was if their careers had not been derailed by injury. Can you imagine how amazing it would be to develop Yao and Roy into the top 5 of their positions, all-time? I'm drooling.
EDIT 2: Also, if you start an association as the Sonics in, say 2000, you would experience them re-branding with the new logo, jerseys, etc, and perhaps even have the option to keep the team in Seattle. OR perhaps you'd like to jump in right as the Bobcats are coming into existence and experience their expansion draft first hand, running the franchise from its inception.
This, in my opinion, would add TONS of longevity to the game without even needing replayability. This kind of feature, in my mind, would absolutely trump the Jordan and Legends modes from 2K11 and 2K12, respectively. Hit me 2K. And come at me OS board inhabitants.
