Re: Coward Zone users have single handedly ruined 1vs1 mode

        Hey everyone,

I know i'm pretty new to these forums, but i read these forums everyday like its my religion. (Have been for the past 3 years)

When i see post like this... i kind of feel bad for 2k and all the hard work they put into this game. Especially online. I am far from a "Cheeser". I play with the Spurs. (Sucks Since Parker Is Gone) I Run A Play About 75% of the time, i call my own plays. I know my teams playbook. I know all my players Hot/cold Zones. I know all my players Key strengths and weaknesses.

        I'm 17-5 Online ( GT-Richy Snow)

        3 Losses, were my first 3. 1 one a DC./

Most of my wins come against people who try and "Cheese" lol As in Running Zone All Game, Trying To Take Charges Mid Court (Which ALWAYS leads To An Open Man...*SMH* They Dont Get It lol)
What Else... Oh ... Iso With Lebron/Kobe/Durant/Westbrook/Melo/ Etc

The Only CLOSE games are against people who actually KNOW basketball... but ALSO KNOW how to PLAY the game. As in, went into practice mode with thier favorite teams, and LEARNED the plays, the hotspots/cold spots. Etc.

After all that, heres my tips on beating the 1-3-1 Zone...

        1. KEEP The ball In Your PRIMARY Ball Handlers Hands. Usually The PG. Or A Shot Creator (Kobe/Lebron/Wade, Etc)

        2. Run "Best Play". This will USUALLY Put a High Post Player, Or Your Shooters On The Wing. Drive LEFT or RIGHT Depending On WHERE The Shooter Is. Draw Defender, Kick Out... Or Pull Up Jumper Mid Range. If Big Man Comes To Help, Dish Off To Your Post Player.
Once You Know Your Teams Plays, You Can Run A Play You Like.

Also.. Floppys Work Well Too. Setting A Down Screen Near The Baseline Can Get A Player Out Of Position. Make The Pass AS THE SHOOTER IS COMING AROUND the screen. If You Pass It When They Are Set. Your Too Late. Also Make sure to START YOUR SHOT Before The Pass Makes It To The Player. This Will Ensure An Immediate Shot Attempt.

Another Thing Is, LEARN how to use dribble moves on command. Alot of people just do cross over after cross over...lol. Stay back a few feet when defending these types.

SIDE NOTE; If You Go Into Controller Settings, You Can Set It To Where It Will AUTOMATICALLY CONTEST EVERY Shot As Long As You Hold Down left Trigger And Run TOWARD The Shooter.

Another Complaint I Here Is..."I Can't Lock Down The Paint"

Use Quick Tactics, And Set To "Lock Down The Paint". But REMEMBER TO CHANGE BACK TO COACH DEFAULT If They Start Kicking It Out.

Also, If You Go Into Defensive Settings. If They Have Any Players Who Aren't An Outside Threat. Set Off ball Defense To MODERATE/SAG OFF.
This will keep your defenders closer to the basket and able to help off dribble drive penetration.

Another tactic to use if you don't feel comfortable guarding the perimiter. Switch to a big man and guard the paint. When they do blow by, hit DOUBLE team, and bring help with your big man.
USE THE RIGHT JOYSTICK TO CREATE CONTACT. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
YOU MUST PRESS THE RIGHT STICK "TOWARDS" THE BALL HANDLER.
        I can't stress this enough.
Once your able to CREATE your own defensive contact in the paint. The percentages will drop ALOT.

Heres an example of my settings against my last Opponent.

He was the Miami Heat, I was The Portland Trail Blazers (Home Town Team, RIP CITY)

Before TIP OFF, I set OFF BALL Defenses.

        1.M.Chalmers - Moderate
2.D.Wade - Moderate (He Doesnt Have Great Range)
3.Lebron James -Moderate (Same As Wade)
4.U.Haslem - Sag Off (No DEEP Range, Also Used Haslems Man As Primary Help On Dribble Drives From Wade/Lebron)
        5.C.Bosh - Moderate

Then I Set DOUBLE TEAMS TO NEVER. REMEMBER To Call Your OWN Double Teams By Pressing RB or R1. Either On Drives From Lebron, Or Wade. Or To Get The Ball Out Of Thier Hands On 20% Of Possessions.

I set defensive Pressure To 50, and Double Teams to 45.

        Hope This Helps Some...

I Could Keep Going, THIS GAME IS VERY DEEP.

Its Like A Fighting Game... You Have To Master Your Character And All Thier Abilitys. Except...The Fighters Are Basketball Teams.

        Heres a PRIME EXAMPLE.

Demarcus Cousins Is A BEAST In The Paint.... If He's On The Low Left Block. lol

If Demarcus Cousins In Posted Up On The RIGHT Side... Its Basically All Cold Zoned. Therefor his percentages drop ALOT...especially if theres ANY defensive pressure.

So When Your Coming Down The Court, Set the Play Up On The LEFT SIDE (Weak Side), This will Ensure cousins ends up posting on the LEFT LOW BLOCK...Where hes basically all hot zones.

Try and think of it this way... If Your A Post Player... Wouldn't You Rather Be SPINNING LEFT INTO THE PAINT, SO You Can Use Your RIGHT Hand To Score And Your Left Hand To Shed Off Defenders?.

Like CZAR SAYS.... Don't Play Video Games... Play Basketball...lol

1-3-1 Zone Is The EASIEST Thing To Beat...Way Easier Then A 2-3 Matchup Zone With Athletic Wing defenders...lol

Hope this helps... IM not the best when it comes to explaining things lol

There's no reason for 1-3-1 to be in this game. The only zone that should be in here is 2-3 zone and 3-2 zone.

All your points were great but these should be highlighted for anyone having trouble with the game in any area.

Whether your mode is quick match, or MyTeam or OA, learn a team and learn it inside out. Shot releases, tendencies, hot zones, plays. I've played hundreds of games, over 90 percent of them with the same team and I still haven't learned half of what there is to know about how to use them.

As for the thread subject, I rarely even notice what defense my opponent is playing. I just run my sets and look for open shots. There are very, very few online players who can consistently get stops against a patient, balanced offense unless they have a massive ratings advantage.

I agree - but when your opponent is routinely hitting contested bombs from the arc over 2/3 defenders and you're missing open 10 footers - you begin to realise there's a problem somewhere.

Exactly! I play with the spurs, there offense was rated 1 at one point. Yet they don't have any players rated 90+. Its because when you run the sets... spurs have unlimited shooters, and 2 dribble drive players (Parker/Ginobili)

The Only Time I Notice an Opponent playing a zone is when a play is run and someone is in front of a cutter or something thats not "normal" lol

But someone is open...open drive to Elbow line extended and pull up with parker, they rotate and help out...parker has the PASSER rating and OFF HAND rating...to pass in almost any situation.

To guard against a player who knows how to run a solid offense...you have to be able to quick switch to any player without thinking and do your own rotations/help. Its doable...but takes 100% focus. As it should.

Had to edit... my post sounds like im trying to lecture you. Im not. LOL Im just extending my points abit.
                I love this game lol

Re: Coward Zone users have single handedly ruined 1vs1 mode

Yea the zone is annoying mixed with the off ball D

I know some people are going to disagree with me but I feel playing off ball D is kinda weak.

I love playing onball D, I love that feeling of knowing that that's me shutting down my opponent, it feels rewarding to know that I timed hitting the steal button to get that steal and it definitely feels great when "I" get a clean block.

It just seems to me playing off ball D is a cop out or a sign of fear, onball D isn't hard at all after a while. That's just my opinion though

It seems like 2k earlier games were for real NBA basketball lovers and now I think they just make it for the casual people that just watch the Sportcenter top 10 with all the crazy dunk ons etc

If someone knows what they are doing in the 1-3-1, its almost impossible to beat in this game, because of spacing and the fast recovery time.

Hey, I play with my favorite ( Blazers ) and no lie I beat teamslike the Heat, Thunder, and Knicks all the time. Only team Icant beat all the time is the Rockets and thats because all they do is shot with Harden.....I had this one game were I was playing someone online and they used the Mavs and they seen where on the screen where before the game starts that I put JJ on Dirk well the person sent me a private message saying " your puting your center on Dirk lol " all I did was smile because I know my teamand I want Aldrige getting reb well they ended up quiting the game because I was beating them....GO BLAZERS!!!!!!

Dude blocked me on youtube because I called him out for promoting cheese tactics.

There's not a worse combination in the game than 1-3-1 Zone, with offball D and maxed out coach sliders. Now thanks to this douche, every cheese head is recognizing this.

He even has the cheek to call himself the "most legitimate" and "non-cheesy player".

I don't blame him for promoting cheese tactics though, I blame 2K that this nonsense works. I think we should create a thread that contains every cheesy tactic available and how successful it is in the game. Maybe that will force 2K to eliminate all cheese from the game.

There are some offensive cheesy tactics in the game that I know most people don't know about:

                            - In MYTeam, you can just wait out of bounds, behind the baseline, and as the ball handler drives, move under the basket to score an easy layup. For some reason, your defender won't be able to deny the pass or the cut. IRL, the key extends to out of bounds too, so you can't just stay there forever. The 3 second rule would still apply.

                            - Also in MYTeam, if a big man just stands in the paint on offense and presses B, setting a pick on no one, for some reason their defender can't guard them and so a pass into the paint is made even easier.

These are the kind of tactics you'll find on GameBattles (or they know about it enough to ban it) and Hoopsgaming.

EDIT: Here's a link to a video of the second tactic:

That Youtube guy is welcome to his opinion but his tactics don't work for the people that use them against me.

If he used the Heat and put as much time into learning how to play man-to-man, he'd win just as much and probably more, but he wouldn't be able to sell people on the idea that there's an easy "shortcut" to winning online.

Also, if you don't like his tactics I don't know why you would link to his videos, which only increases his hits and encourages what he's doing.

pure trash. All 2k needs to do is take out the 1-3-1 like they did Box in 1 OR lower defensive recovery while in zone so corners are always open when opponent plays 1-3-1
