Hopefully in 2k14 they reduce the effectiveness of the 1-3-1 because playing myteam mode and running into legends and having people abuse the 1-3-1 with say MJ-Lebron-Mel-KD haha goodluck...

Exactly...some of the people in this thread talking about how easy it is to beat the zone obviously haven't play an upper level TRUE cheeser.

Beating the 1-3-1 isn't hard....I can run 2-3 Killer and get an open 3 on every possession. But try playing a cheeser moron who plays the 1-3-1 and keeps resetting his defense. Guess what Einsteins....your plays won't work. Your players will either stand around or run around in circles like morons....and then when you throw a pass, it will get tipped.

I just hate how threads like this turn into everyone trying to BRAG about how great they are at 2K. Give it a break....no one cares. The simple fact is there are too many things that completely BREAK this game....zone defense being one of them.

I'm sorry but the 2K designers and programmers have said they won't be satisfied until the game looks like what happens on the court in the NBA. Ummm....that's NEVER going to happen if the MOST common defense in 2K is one that is almost never used in the NBA - the 1-3-1.

It needs to go...and anyone crying about that is more than likely just a cheeser-in-denial.

I run horns, and guess what, even if the play completes - i'm open for a J.....CLANG.

2 foot. 10 foot. 23 foot. doesn't matter. I play proper basketball and get rewarded with bricks. And it's not my release time. I've tested this just the other day. I actually did the unthinkable and cheesed for a quarter. stuck my finger on turbo, sprinted to the 3 point line and jacked up a trey over 3 defenders.....can you guess the outcome? Yep. That's right. Nothing but net. Second trip down, turbo held, ran in zigzags all the way to the paint....POW. Easy dunk.

Seriously - is this the crap you think should be rewarded 2k? I play as realistically as I can and I don't benifit from it? Yet others play the game like it was NBA Jam and rack up the wins??!!

As i've said - you simply CAN'T enjoy this game online unless you're playing against a like minded opponent.

What about on Hall of Fame simulation against your friends? I haven't played enough to be certain, but I noticed a difference between what you could and couldn't get away with in comparison to MyTEAM.

That's my point - play against like minded Sim opponents or trusted friends and you'll have a blast with this game - outside of that, it's garbage central.

People will say they love playing cheesers just so they can beat them - I disagree. I hate playing them because they take all the realism out of the game. WIn or lose, I want to play someone who knows how to play basketball properly, not exploit the **** out of the game.

beating the 1-3-1 is pretty simple just gotta be patient on offense and look for the open guy and dont try to needle passes in places it shouldent go

no NBA team plays 100% man or 100% zone.. nor do they play the same defensive scheme against all teams

when will you all realize that 2k isn't making this game for Sim players anymore smh sad to say it but its true.

They keep proving it every year by making the online settings Pro/default or allstar/default.

MyTeam has to be on Rookie/Casual an you can't tell me otherwise. Online is supposed to be competitive so why not put it on the highest difficulty which would be HOF/Sim

This game just isn't for me online anymore, it just doesn't reward good basketball that goes for good offense or defense.

-A leaning shot is wayyy better than a spot up shot

-up and unders are automatic with anyone lol
-running hook shots are automatic with anyone
-euro step 3's smh lol
-elite players can score over anyone in the paint even with the tough animations smh

This game is all offense, whenever they start doing their insights for 2k14 later this year if their not talking about defense improvements and I mean BIG defensive improvements then there will be no reason for me to get excited for the next 2K.

I don't care about any new features or game modes or legends or accessories or shoes, this time around its time to get this gameplay right I'm done taking up for this game

Ill run a play from my celtics play book. Can't remember the name but it gets me wide open for threes and midrange. The problem is if I don't have momentum and a guy is abusing this it clanks.

Then I just say F it and cheese the ball into the paint.

The zone doesnt bother me like it did in 2k11 and 2k12. I hated the dreaded shot delay that would happen when I tried to shoot open 3's against zone. 2k13 may have similar issues with zone D from previous years, but thankfully, I havent experienced shot delay/freeze much at all.

What do you mean by "recognize your offense"? Do you mean in the middle of a play...? That doesn't happen....coaches aren't yelling out "2-3!!!" in the middle of a play to instantly change their teams defense....not even close.

The truth about NBA defense is that teams have rules and principles that they follow. Very few teams treat it like pee wee league or even high school where they call a set defense.

Some teams have strict man-to-man principles while others will use principles that are a mixture of man and zone...similar to what some people call a "matchup zone" like what Syracuse has played under Jim Boeheim or Temple played under John Chaney...

Sure you can play "zone" in the NBA...but it's not a true zone because of the illegal defense/defensive 3 seconds rule that exists.

You're right...teams do not play the same schemes against all teams. It mostly depends on personnel, who is on the floor...and where they are at on the floor.

But the truth is few teams actually "call" a different defense. They just change their rules. Like how far they are willing to help off a shooter, especially a corner 3 shooter...and how they are going to double and rotate....or help and rotate.

Another big factor in NBA defenses is how they are going to defend the pick-and-roll. The NBA is still, for the most part, largely a pick-n-roll league. How teams choose to defend different pick-and-roll sets is largely what their defense is built around.

A team like the Bulls is going to take away the other 3 guys while making one of the two players involved in the pick-and-roll try to beat them. A team like the heat is going to do the opposite, focusing their resources on stopping the pick-n-roll and then rotating and trying to make one of the 3 players not involved in the P-n-R beat them.

That's why defense in this game is BROKEN. The man-to-man defense is broken when it comes to help defense and rotations while the zone defenses are greatly overpowered - alot of this is because the simple act of playing a zone seems to CONFUSE the AI of offensive players and make them less effective.

i meant what it said... i dont mean yelling out 'switch' in the middle of a play... but recognizing the offensive strategies being used and altering defence to accommodate... whether it be using a zone in certain situations or switching matchups .. i dislike zones, but not to the point where i get angry
