    It's not that bad

I rented the game last night and played all night. After that I came to the conclusion that its not bad at all, in fact with the right tweaks I think it could be a good game. Playmakers were waiting for you. Here is my short review.

For those that got the demo. I can tell you it doesn't do the game justice. You have to go into each arena to really appreciate the feel of the game and the detail of each arena. It is remarkable to see all these arenas.

Graphics/animations: This is where it shines the brightest. You actually see Manu's hair move. The details are also well done on players and the courts. Now with that said there are some players that don't look that good. Mainly white guys like Ridinour and some of the other mid level players. Nash looks identical to whose real counterpart, as does Manu. The jumpshots are a thing of beauty. Marion, KG, JO to name a few shoot like they do in real life. I also saw Manu throw down a dunk awkward like he does in real life, with a kind of twisting motion off the wrong leg. One last thing about the graphics. The hair is amazing on Ben, Manu, Nash, Dalembert, A.I, Melo, Dirk etc. Their braids move and the hair is stringy on Nash and Manu. The sweat is not done that great however, it doesn't look that natural.

Gameplay: Think live 05 meets live 06. The dribble moves are live 05. However there is fast breaks and plays ran like 06. The fast breaks are crazy. Your big men run as well as your guards. I got a couple dunks on the break with big ben. There are a number of dunks in the game and they all look great, however they happen a little to often. You can easily get 30 dunks in on the hardest level, sliders can probably fix this. The floor spacing is the best I have seen. Now you can actually draw and kick better than I have seen in a game yet, note: even on superstar. Plays are ran. In the playbook menu there is a play animation screen, so you can see how they are ran. They took out the on court diagram, which kind of sucks. The pistons have plays ran for Rip for mid range. The players also have a catch and shoot motion, which is nice. The on the fly strategy is a work of art. You can switch mathcups, pressure, fast break settings, sub, and change your off,def strategy on the fly without pausing. Teams do play like themselves, although Duncan didn't get involved to much when I played the Spurs. It might just have been my defense on the perimeter. It is very hard to stay in front of your man on the perimeter. There are superstar moves you just can't control them. I have done a number of fancy passes, they were just random depending on d position and handler position among other things. Not bad

Audio: Marv and Steve really do a good job in this department. One time I accidentely ran out of bounds. Kerr said " Hey you, those little white lines out there are out of bounds lines, you can't cross them with the ball". The crowd is pretty good they stand and cheer when the home team is doing well and sit when there not. I didn't hear any team chants but they might be there. They do holla three when one is shot. So that was nice. The players need more emotion or at least some. That is a big drawback, but not a gamekiller.

Anyway that's my short review, as always I will field questions if you PM me, or reply on this thread. I think this game really deserves at the very least a rental, especially if you are a live head. Heck the arena's alone deserve that. Just my take

Blockbuster has all the games. One question I don't play to many war games but was thinking of cod2. Do you recommend it?

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

That is one are I forgot to mention that killed the demo for me. I couldn't find a angle but reading some of the posts here and experimenting with the retail version I finally found a decent one. I can't remember what it is now. Another thing that they did with the angles which has got to be the dumbest thing ever. They decided that it would give a more true presentation of a broadcast to have cameras that sometime loose the action. Why would we want a game where the camera would loose the ball. Ex if you play on a zoomed angle from the side and pass the ball real quick down the court the camera will loose the ball for a second and then catch up which throws you off big time. This can be rectified by different angles or less zoom but the idea of it is rediculous.

              Thanks for being honest SirJam.

I'm going to be late getting started on this game because I don't have a sytem.....

But I should get it about 2 weeks and I've only played my copy of Live briefly and really liked what I saw for the limited time. Personally as I mentioned before I don't care for franchise modes, dunk contest and things of that nature because I usually move on to other games after 1 season with these sports titles. So, the lack of features really don't upset me at all.

I heard that the players don't show any emotion but hey aslong as the gameplay is good I don't really focus on those things either whether it's football, baseball or basketball. I guess it's expected since it's Next Gen but I'm not the type who's going to become depressed because my players aren't frowning or taunting or something.

I agree on the floor spacing and fastbreaks I was actually shocked to see those things in my brief time playing it. I'm not huge on graphics but it was great to see that Live looked brilliant. But for me gameplay was most important and that's what I liked about your review the most......

That is the main thing I liked about it. I can't recall being able to actually draw and kick as well as I could with this game, also there seems to be no superstar level cheating either. Was you as amazed as I was buy the fastbreaks, mainly the athletic big men actually running the floor.

I am yet to play it...

However, I do think the reviews have been harsh by virtue of the fact that they have ALL hammered the game for "things left out".

Yet I have hardly read a review that mentions "the things put in".

I was chatting last night to a mate of mine who has the game and he actually really likes it. He's one of those laid back guys who doesn't pick games to death / participate on chat forums like most of us

In his words "f... the all star weekend being out, i couldn't care less. the game has freaking signature shots! KG does his 'over the head' J, Marion with that weird looking one, Sheed with that slowly drawn pull back on the 3 ball and much more. i freaking love that."

He also said play calling and stuff was much better.

Doesn't care much that the ASW and superstar moves are out.

I guess it depends on what you want. He essentially likes to play a single season and that's it.

To him, sig J's being in is HUGE.

Yet I don't think i've seen a single review mention these. Those who played the demo wouldn't have noticed things like that also.

That was the reason I rented it after downloading it. I read about the sig shots and the arena detail. If people are saying that this game is terrible based on the demo than they are missing out.

most people are saying its boring afterawhile.

IMO, details like the sig shots and arenas wear off when youre really into the game and trying to play some hard nosed defense, trying to get out of a 10 pt. deficit. Most people don't say, "my god, the skating was terrible on that defensive effort. but holy cow, those arenas are great". then again, i could be wrong

I don't see the skating in the 360 version. At least I didn't notice it. I did notice the sig shots and the arenas.

As usual I own played using Dallas and it was vs the Spurs. But yes Duncan feeled the lanes nicely on about 2 plays that the Spurs attempted to fastbreak. I did like how Van Exel looks like himself when shooting that was pretty sweet. They messed up Jason Terry's form on his jumper but that's ok overall the gameplay felt pretty felt after i increased the speed up to 100.

I'm bumming right now because I can't put in anytime with it further until I get my system. I however did purchase both games this time so I'll be playing them both once I get rolling.

I said it was terrible from playing the full version. And its sad, that everyone is even saying its good. No it isn't, the game is a pathetic step backwards to the Live series. And with EA knowing how popular the series is, they release a mediocre version to get paid quickly off the name.

Sorry man, no matter how you want to sugar coat it and make it sound like a decent game. Live 360 is a joke, especially with the effort 2ksports brought to the table. Its not even in the same generation or league. Live is a great disappointment. After seeing the videos on IGN and Gamespot I was giving it hope to purchase both games. But after playing it waaaaaaaayyy! before it came out. The disappointment was just too high....The sliding IMO should not still be in Next Gen, Zombie faces are just stupid, The skinny and misproportioned player models are just sad. Everyone talking about stadiums....the stadiums have a foggy lighting experience, that looks good so what, they are too dark..reminds you of the first outing of Inside Drive. The players move like Zombie Robots stuck in the matrix, even with the speed at 100%. Your player still move all over the court with no sense of direction, and the A.I hits everything, there are no sliders or anything that will fix this game. The pre-game warmup during the loading screen moves faster than the actual gameplay on the court. The sweat effect during the game is over done I mean really!!!!

On the videos shown online the crowds were looking good...play the actual game..and they are just blurred polygons and it looks really stupid. Be honest with yourselves, EA messed up. They are allowed to make mistakes because of their previous history of doing so and really not doing anything about it. But they are a rich corporation w/ half the world worshipping Live. The game can be delivered with a year supply of doggy poop. And every one would love it. So they thought....

Majority of the real basketball gamers...Got 2k6, no longer is it a fanboy thing. Its a gamer thing. If your a gamer don't settle for this crap of a game. Hopefully EA will see a decrease in sales and realize they need to step it up...and come better next year....(crossing my fingers)(and splashing holy water on EA logo)(be gone demons and bring back the Live game we once Loved )

To each its own. I was just merely pointing out that its not as bad as people are saying, once you put time in it. Also the demo doesn't due it justice, that's a fact. I also own 2k and have great things to say about it on the 2k board. With that said I didn't want this to turn into a "which game is better thread", that is why there is no mention or comparison in my review.
