Why Do You People like this Game?

When I first got it, I thought this game was pretty good. A month later, this game gets worse every day I play it as there are so many issues with it, it's ridiculous.

This year, I've noticed a lot of guys on here switching from 2K9 to this, and most of you love this game. Why? This game by far doesn't represent real NBA Basketball as well as its competition

While it has improved drastically, Live is no way near on the level of 2K9. I'm not making this thread to bash Live, or to make it a 2K9 vs. Live discussion, but I just want to know why do you people like this game so much?

Here are some of my gripes with Live:

Defense(mostly online) is non existent. Don't give me the whole, "You need to practice in the NBA Academy" stuff. Someone can quickstrike until they get into the paint all day.

Pick and Roll Control(Post-Patch) is so broken right now. It can just be my game that does this, but when I use pick and roll control, 80% of the time when I try to pass it, it doesn't pass to the person who set the pick. I just loss an online game in crunch time because LeBron decided to make a cross court pass to Delonte West after Ilgaulskas set the pick.


Rebounding is broken. In a game against the Lakers I just played, I had excellent position to get the rebound countless times, but somehow Derek Fisher and Kobe managed to get offensive rebounds on me like crazy and they were behind me. Thos was actually the case with all the Lakers players but Fisher and Kobe getting some was what did it for me.


Coaching Settings is broken. After noticing the rebounnding issue, I called time-out and but my coaching sliders all the way down to box-out. NOTHING CHANGED. Then in an online game I played, I put the settings all the way down to get back because some cheeser was throwing it down court every possession for easy lay-ups and dunks. My players still didn't get back after making those changes.


Free-throws are too easy.(Pre- and Post-Patch) I mean really EA, did you guys have to make shooting free-throws so much easier?!?!? I swear you are mentally ******** if you don't shoot 100% from the line in every game no matter whose the free-throw shooter. When playing online, there's no reason to intentional foul late in games.


The gameplay is just soooo sluggish! I hate being sucked in to my defender every time he's by me. The CPU always plays tight D on the ballhandler and it just wastes shot clock time trying to get them off of me.

I have many more issues with this game, but I'm kinda tired of typing right now so I'm taking a break. Anyways, just tell me why you guys like this game so much.

I have tried it. And it is better than what it has been in the past years but overall its still behind from a gameplay standpoint.

I don't play online, but as far as single player goes, it just plays a more realistic game than 2k9 out of the box. Especially post patch.

I like 2k9, but I love Live this year.The DNA is the big thing,when you play teams they play just like they do in real life.i don't know about all the issues the TC has,but my only gripe is the cheesy online play,its horrible all these guys do the same thing.But Live 09 is a great game and it is back fun to play it again.

why the hostility....I have live and think it is still soooo far behind 2k that it's tough to play. I respect some of the opinions of some people here, and when they say they prefer live it really makes me wonder. Especially long time dudes like yourself and sage and czar. So I wonder the same thing. why do you guys like this game? there seems to be so much missing. it's just a question. You know DISCUSSION board..

I don't play online, but as far as single player goes, it just plays a more realistic game than 2k9 out of the box. Especially post patch.

explain for me what it does more realistically than 2k. And why is the out of the box thing so important if you don't play online.

I played the demo and something about this game caught me. IT was the engine pretty much. I bought the game, traded in 2k9 and had a momentary freak out session for about 2 days wondering what i had done. At this poitn, I personally think it's leaps and bounds ahead of 2k9 at this point and it's not even close. Read my thread that i created below to explain why. This game at its core is much stronger of a basketball title then 2k9 will ever be with the engine they have. That along with other technology like footplanting, dna, etc....

Live has a vision imo. 2k9 is just putting icing on an old formula at this point. Personally I think Live once you get the hang of it and the controls and get int he flow of the game it plays a nearly flawless game of bball at its core. Especially after the patch. I already explained this in the other forum but 2k9 players are skating too much and there is 0 resistance in teh paint, and there is no spacing. You basically breath on 2k9 wrong and it breaks. That is not the case with Live. The harder you push the engine in this game the better this game is.

wow. we're on totally opposite ends of the spectrum here. this game is the furthest thing from flawless and thats unbelievable. so your telling me that you don't see all the players playing the same, having the same animations, having the same skill level and no skill level discrepancy. I just played a game in which I subbed radmanovich in for fisher at the point and there was no drop off at the position. no more turnovers, no lack of ballhandling ability or skill. I scored 17 points off of layups with vlad, and had 8 assist because the defense collapses on the ball handler leaving kobe wide open to nail 3's....this is just broken....I can still use vlad to guard tony parker with no drop off in defense. that is just a mess....

I said perfect at its core. I never said the game was perfect. I also disagree adn think the animations are really subtle. Play on superstar sometime JT and tell me that is the case.. DNA is awesome and teams and players play very differently and have success in very different ways. This game is tight and the main difference i see between it and 2k9 is that you can really push the AI. I already explained this in the other forum but 2k9 players are skating too much and there is 0 resistance in teh paint, and there is no spacing. You basically breath on 2k9 wrong and it breaks because it is too scripted. That is not the case with Live. The harder you push the engine in this game the better this game is.

Couldn't agree more my friend. This game has flaws, yes, but it also does the basic elements of basketball very well. The footplanting engine makes a world of difference. It looks like real athletes moving with momentum. It also helps out a lot with spacing, as players aren't sliding all over the place, clogging things up.

Spacing is probably my favorite aspect about the game. You watch a real basketball game and you will notice teams space the floor. This creates open jump shots, creates opportunities for the penetrate and kick 3pt shot. You just cannot do this in any other basketball games.

Defense is another reason why I love this game. Players can body-up the ball-handler and turn him one direction or another. This is basketball. But it isn't overdone. Good offensive players will blow by slower defenders with the correct counter moves.

Honestly, this game just feels fresh. There are so many great things about it. For 2010, they need to add ALOT more animations for all kinds of situations. If they add a lot and clean up some of the weird ones, along with adding better interior defense/bodies banging inside, better rim/net/ball physics engine, and signature moves/packages/etc, we will be looking at one amazing game next year.

I do play on superstar...im not saying the animations aren't available, but they're available to anyone. except sig moves....but it's cool man, I'll try and make a video to explain what I mean sometime this weekend.....

I haven't played the retail version of Live 09 so it's not about liking the game. The point is why do people need a reason to like something they paid $60 for? It's cool to want to know why someone might like something you can't stand but I don't see why people need to explain it.

I have no idea what I like, I'm just saying this because this the game I'm playing at the moment.

I haven't played the retail version of Live 09 so it's not about liking the game. The point is why do people need a reason to like something they paid $60 for? It's cool to want to know why someone might like something you can't stand but I don't see why people need to explain it.

Well I guess I didn't read it that way mo. Like I said, as a longtime gamer, I play this game and just wonder how the other people here seem to like it so much considering the level of the competition. I thought you were on board too so I was actually open to what I'm missing....
