Re: Why Do You People like this Game?
Now that I have my rational mind back, I'll post some reasons.
1). I feel like I am in 100% control of the my player at all times on offense and defense.
-- I never feel like there is a delay in movements, or an unresponsiveness when I want to pull off a move. If I want to jab step, dribble left, and cross over behind the back, I know if I move the sticks in the proper direction, the player will always perform the move. ..which leads me to..
2). I cant beat someone off of the dribble with these moves, with say, Chris Duhon..as easily as I can with Kobe Bryant.
--in 2k...I can do a behind the back, dribble to a crossover with steve novak, and I can either beat Gerald Wallace off of the dribble, or sliver my way into the paint until I can get a layup or drop the ball off to someone. Yet I can see Emeka Oakafor, lock up Tracy McGrady on a isolation the next trip down the court.
In Live, in my dynasty...I had a game against The Jazz where Jamal Crawford was just ripping Kyle Korver. Korver couldnt handle him off of the dribble at all. He went off for 30.
A few games later, I was playing the Lakers. Totally different. Kobe wasnt playing that, and most of Craw's pts came off of long jumpers. He only had 15 pts that game and they were a hard 15.
3) Floor spacing, which allows for drive and kick basketball.
--When do you most often see uncontested jumpers in a NBA game? Either on A) a scramble for a loose ball,B) off a long rebound, C) in transition, or D) off of dribble penetration.
Neither game does A or B well, C is more possible in 2k, though i have seen it better in Live post patch. Live absolutely, positively nails D. In 2k, this doesnt exist. Live's floor spacing is terrific and makes the court feel much less cluttered.
Steve Nash DESTROYED me on drive and kick, as well as pick and roll in a dynasty game. He would beat me, my defense would collapse to help, which would free up Raja Bell or Barbosa on the wings to clip me. When I tried to play Nash straight, he pulled up or layed up. he had 35, and 12.
4) Marv and Steve
--I love those 2. It feels like they are calling a real game. IT's like EA put them in a room, fired up a bunch of CPU vs CPU games, and said, "just call the action like you are doing a broadcast"
Kerr sometimes makes me laugh out loud, and Marv is well, Marv.
5) NBA Live tries to replicate the feel of being in a NBA arena. 2k tries to replicate the feel of a TNT NBA telecast.
--2k does this exceptionally well, I just prefer the NBA Arena "feel" better. There's a wonderful eb and flow to the crowd.
They start our rather subdued, and they respond with the flow of the game. As the game grows in intensity, so do they. If you have yourself a close game deep into the fourth, they have built into a roar. You'll be hearing chants of "MVP! MVP! MVP!" when a star gets on a roll, you'll hear the "DEFENSE!" chants, you'll hear the "Lets go Knicks" or "Lets go Lakers!"
The commentary will change and as well. Its a subtle thing, but it is there. Steve and Marv's voice will get a little more intense. He'll say something like: "And after being down by as many as <FILL blank the in>..they have cut the lead down to 5." and the crowd will respond. Kerr will say something like, "this is why you keep playing, the NBA game is a long game..etc et.."
It really draws you in.
6) The flow of the CPU game, its strategy and AI is better.
-This is the most underrated aspect of NBA Live in my opinion. The dirty little secret: its more sim then 2k in this department.
I was playing the memphis grizzlies and the minnesota t-wolves in dynasty and I saw both teams switch up to a zone defense for a few posessions. This is EXACTLY what they do in reality.
A) I had a game where Jamal Crawford had a 20 pt half..the cpu said, "enough of that." First play I ran called for him to come off a off ball screen: They trapped him off of the screen immediately. They did this for the entire half and he ended the game with only 26 pts.
B) I played the Sacramento Kings, and I assigned a double team right off the bat to Kevin Martin. for a lot of the 1st half, MArtin was getting trapped, throwing up forced jumpers, and guys like Mikki Moore, Beno Udrih, and John Salmons were taking all of the shots. "perfect" I saw.
The Cpu adjusted. Martin starting shooting right off the catch more, the CPU put him in spots where it took the double longer to get there, it had him cut to the basket. IT didnt just sit back and allow him to get trapped all game.
C) My last game against The Lakers: The CPU was establishing Gasol early. In fact, he was taking the majority of the shots, and Kobe was only getting a little here and there.
Since they were pounding the ball inside to gasol, I played zone for a while, and quickly had to get out of it as Kobe and Odom would cut to the basket, spot up for jumpers, and I got beat by a 3 or to by vlad.
Kobe then put on his assasin cape in the 4th and scored 10 pts int he quarter, despite my double team. He got some pts on the break, on catch and shoots, and had an absurd move where he split my double for a dunk.
He had a breakaway dunk where he did his signatuire hang on the rim and come off with his arms outstretched like a bird. It looked beautiful.
7) The game doesnt feel forced.
Again, I really believe NBA Live hs become the more sim game.
Kobe and Gasol got their points within the flow of the game. No half court alley oops, no laser backdoor cuts, no jet pack fast breaks, where my entire team simply decided to let everyone release on the outlet, no crazy and 1 windmills.
Everything felt natural and I never felt like I was cheated. N ot once. And I still lost...but I didnt mind, because I never felt like the cPU robbed me of the game.
I know this is rather long, sorry
, but these are the reasons why I really enjoy this game.
