Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
as i can see i am one of many in this thread that don't really like the post game. As i watched the vid of birdman backing down shaq then smashing on him just made me even more mad at ea for even letting that happen in the game.
There is no weight in the game and i really hope next year it is put in so shaq will be able to back people down and you will be able to FEEL the dominance that shaq has compared to other bigs.
They should take away the suction from the defender in the post cause he feel like he is stuck to the offensive player. I should be able to back away when someone is trying to back me down instead of being stuck until they pull off a move, and sometimes it would result in a travel on them.
I agree w/ all the other posters saying that they should have more sig shots in the post and more variation between players like the perimeter game.
All in all the post game should be at the top of the list for next year as well as commentary but im not gonna get into that.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
ND there is a good deal they can add. Having everyone shoot the same turnaround jump shot is soooo 2004/5.
To answer the OP the post game is terrible. It wouldn't as bad if you could at least turn either way once you get the ball. But even if you drop stop to one side you can only shoot it going one way. That in combination with the limited animations and lack of overall control make it terrible.
Borderline gamekiller for some if your main scorer is a post up guy. Its sooo dry and drab can you imagine scoring 20 points a game with a power post player for 82 games and the playoffs with everyone having the same turn J and only being able to turn in one direction ?
Mind numbingly simple and stale. Those are my honest opinions.
For me, I am mainly using the Jazz. I tried using the Jazz in Dynamic Season and just got bored senseless playing it. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that using Boozer down low.....man I may as well have Brian Scalararine down there. There's nothing about having a superior post player in this game that is represented.
Your comments re 2004/5 really touch on it....
I love some aspects of this game...some parts are amazing.
But a lot of it really feels like it's stuck back in 2004/5.
I mean, you never see things like "hockey passes"(Inside Drive 2004 brought these in)...you never see the CPU really spin the ball around the perimeter with extra passes...the post game is incredibly generic...there's no clear path fouls...you can't chose between a 20 sec T/O or a 60...it really feels like it's stuck back in the old days before all these things became the norm and expected.
The post game in LIVE 09 was better than this...and I don't really understand that. Why make somehting worse?
As with KDRE, I played LIVE 09 a lot and I felt like the perimeter game was fine...and they've even improved upon it.
But they've gone backwards in a lot of areas. I just don't get the whole "take things out" process...where you remove things from season to season.
I'd love to see them take a season off and come back with LIVE 12 as an absolute masterpiece. It isn't going to happen though, so it seems the trend of just adding bits here and there will continue, rather than getting all things right.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
wow, im surprised at the hate fest going on with the post game here. I agree that it is not as "sig" as it maybe could be. But what guys in the league do you guys want doing post moves to do??? It seems like you guys want a bunch of random animations to take place versus having the ability to do it yourselves. Just about anything that should be done in the post can be. I won't say it doesn't seem somewhat generic in nature, but thats basketball. I watched etan thomas go to work the other night as if he were shaq in 2000....
IN addition you CAN drop step but 70% of the time you will turn opposite the drop step to shoot the ball.
If your engaged in the post and shoot the turnaround J everyone in the league will shoot the same shot.
YOu have no control of a hook shot or turnaround jump shot CONSISTENTLY.
The spin moves appear to be sometimes you can sometimes you can't irregardless of the matchup.
It's not a good post game. Its adequate if you like the rest of the game but you can't tell me you would prefer to have this post mechanic in next years game ?
Live 10 is a very good game but the post game detracts from enjoyment. It can be dealt with and even accepted as part of a greater whole but it is inadequate and I don't consider it bashing to say so.Catch me on that #SimNation #SimHangOut Friday's @ 10:00 pm est https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...N7yxMiElOpMl_BComment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
as an example look at the post up button they gave us back it is missing those spin moves you used to be able to do out of them because they were attached to the old system and they designed this years game without them so there were no captures associated with them...
That is my admittedly far fetched but somewhat based on reality version of why I think it was taken out.Catch me on that #SimNation #SimHangOut Friday's @ 10:00 pm est https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...N7yxMiElOpMl_BComment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
This is speculation however If those moves were tied in with the old freestyle system which I believe it was all of that had to be taken out. It was my understanding that to take that old dribbling system out was a huge undertaking because it touched every other part of the game. I would assume the post game is included in that.

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
I'm curious how much resources implenting dynamic season, took away from other areas.
I'm in the minority here, in that I think the post game is "good"..not great, not bad, but "good", and I do agree that it isnt as user friendly as it was last year. Heck, driving to the basket isnt as user friendly..they are both doable..im able tro score plenty with the good low post guys in a lot of ways, but I can see how those who are looking for some more individual flavor can be frustrated by it.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
I don't notice the post game much until I pick some other team than bulls. Playing mostly with bulls i don't really need it because just like in real life we don't have anyone that post up. Maybe Noah twice a game or deng. But when i pick teams like Magic/spurs etc I notice how limited the post game is. Most of the time nothing falls for me in the post also. Not a game killer but you notice how weak it is.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
Its really confusing. I really do not understand as to how you can have a center for a cover athlete and not have a decent post game. I know that the cover athlete is supposed to reflect the product's value, but i didn't expect Dwight Howard's post woes to affect the game negatively. Big men are worthless in this game when it comes to running an offense.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
JT the problem as I see it is the limitation. I can do moves but its side restricted. That eliminates half of the floor when you catch the ball. That is not cool at all.

I think that the key for me personally is seeing the game as a whole, I can't bring myself to let this detract from the total experience. I find it odd that this board, which has found numerous ways to defend horrendous products in the past, has lost patience and become more like the other board that expects perfection at every moment.
The revamping of the bulk of the system is huge. I thought it to be really obvious that this will be a 2-3 year undertaking and I guess Im not taking them to task at this point. So I digress. No I wouldn't want the current system to remain untouched for 11. But I don''t want this to turn into a hybrid of the other game with overly complicated controller motions and modifiers to create a "sim" experience.Comment

czar I preface this by saying, I agree wholeheartedly with this.

You just pretty much summed up how I feel. the post game is "functional" and there is room to make things better..but lets be careful with what we wish for as well.
I dont want to play NBA2kLive.
The fundamentals are there, and thats okay for me. This part of the game may not be up to the other areas, but it doesnt make it any less enjoyable for me.Comment

No, big men are not worthless in this game. Timmy and Dwight will get their points, (if you actually use them). Feeding it to the post is a viable strategy for opening up your outside shooters, taking advantage of mismatches etc. Sure, when you look at it on it's own it's very vanilla. but it works very well as a part of the whole.Comment

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
I like being able to put stuff off the glass on-command.. had a really nice quick spin then hook with Melo that I banked perfectly off the glass to avoid the defender. But yeah, it's pretty limited and those random offensive fouls when backing down are annoying because it's impossible to tell when they'll happen. I'm not as down on the post game as most of you are though I guess... I can do what I want on-command most times and though it's limited, you still have the basic arsenal of hooks, fades, spins, and the up and under.. it's enough to get by. Though when compared with 2K's move list, it's apparent that it needs an upgrade for live 2010.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Honest thoughts on the post game
Post game in live10 is not its best asset but I find it 'functional' too. I mean, I can try the up& under, drop step to both sides, spins to both sides, fakes & drive to both sides, face-up for a bank shot... it's all there, I can score from the post, it's a threat, but it's not money. just read and use the instructions Beluba wrote.
However I think there are several things to improve for live11:
- add sig moves for the stars
- add mo-cap for less skilled players, so that for example a bulky player shooting a turnaround fadeaway looks horrible (and obviously with a low degree of success)
- take into account the balance of weight and strength for the players fighting in the post
- let users decide if they want to turnaround left or right (in live10 they always turn to the side of his shooting hand; only when they are being double-guarded they turn to the other side)
- let users decide when to shoot a hook, or when a jumpshot
So, it's not perfect at all, it can be improved and I'm sure it will be, but I really hope Beluba & mates don't loose focus and don't 'overdo' it, I mean I hope next year we won't be complainig "I can't stop the post plays!!! No way to stop TD or KG...."======
