What game has a walk cycle as a canned animation? One step, sure. But a game that forces you to take two steps?
Lol, so far over your head...don't reply..you don't get it.

Can you explain to me what I don't get? I asked what game has a canned animation for a walking cyle (two complete steps). Can you give me an example.

Each year 2k has some issues, but to my eyes each year there are changes and an effort made, and they have all been good to great games for me, especially since I only play offline.

I was kind of referencing the EA influence where atrocious games like Madden 06-09 were given mostly excellent reviews, if those games were released by a non influential publisher they might have gotten the 3's and 4's they deserved. So the joke is if EA released "The Kyrie Irving Experience" with one player in the game, sites like IGN would likely give it an 8.5. Plus tons of guys here would call it a "step in the right direction", and a "good base to build on", and "wait till next year when we get 5 on 5".

It's all good bro, I hope NBA Live 14 is the greatest video game basketball game ever made, I play games, and have been playing sports games for almost 40 years, I hope it's great, I really do, I just don't have my hopes up.

You would think a company that hasn't released a hoops game in 4 years would have the hype machine and previews in full swing right now, being the upstart game and all. The game is going to release in 2 months, if they had some great gameplay to show us I would think they would like to show it off.

The first sign of pure ignorance is when folks start babbling about "canimations". Some folks feed right into the hype and jargon. Hey, dude, did you know that every game has animations that are forced to completion? Just because a game modifies those animations (butchers them actually in EA's case - see all those broken FIFA and Madden "physics" videos), doesn't mean that you can break out of them and do whatever you want, when you want. I'm sure that when you fall or stumble in a game (supposed to happen a lot in sports games), no game will allow you to break out of it just because you want to. So, if your done with that stuff, retire from gaming. At the very least, gtfo with that veiled canimation crying.

Obviously every game has animations. I think what he was referring to are the animations where you should have some control. For example, when being double-teamed in NBA 2k, once you get so far into the animation, there will be a jump ball. Every time. Your player will pick up the dribble, the defender will grab the ball. You will "fight" over it for a few seconds and a jump ball is called. There is no way to get out of it, and there is no alternative outcome where one player actually gets control of the ball, even if you try to react before the defender actually grabs the ball.

That's just one example, but there are plenty more. We really shouldn't see that type of 'canimation' anymore.

I'm glad ea has stayed away from going heavy on that in between canimation stuff. While it may look better it takes away control in all aspects. That stiff look is ea giving you a clean slate from which to move and perform any move you want. Not force you to go places or pass, shoot and dribble slowly. Why I don't like 2k gameplay and what most people mean when they say its over animated.

Well actually thats a fair animation. Because it can be countered by movement of the ball handler or passing. This is the virtual way to balance the game as it isnt the perfect replication of real life athletes and sports. If you are given time to dribble out (which happens alot), then you should get stuck. Plus in real life, if some grabs the ball and you maintain your grip, it will be a jumpball....

EA is making players completely independent from each other so everything that happen is based on the user skill. In previous b-ball games they had a lot of 2 man mo-cap animations that played back the same way its recorded and the results is predetermined. Also it took control away from the user and thats what EA is trying to get away from. I can't speak for everybody but this is what I been wanting a b-ball game where it take my skills to win.

If you say so. If you are that bent on total control to leads to oddities, as opposed to lesser of control for reasonable purposes for the sake of balance and authenticity, that's your prerogative. Elite was a mess man. If you're cool with that, then nothing else needs to be said.

I wouldn't mind if I only got locked in after they grabbed the ball. The problem is that you get locked in before they actually try to grab the ball. And there is no alternative outcome; it will always result in a jump ball. Coupled with the fact that the AI teammates don't react to the double team and try to get open, it becomes very frustrating.

I wouldn't call it a bug. It's a flaw in the animation approach. That is only one example of an animation you get locked into.
