I would love to see live make a return. Especially if they have the gameplay on point. 2k makes a great game. This is true. But everyone who plays 2k knows that the online is completely garbage. If live comes with good gameplay and strong online. They'll win against 2k. Especially if they have clubs with your created player online.

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
Huh? How is showing lets say a 2 min clip of 5 on 5 play "showing the competition what you are doing?" They've already announced a career mode and several other features that are going to appear in the game. Is that "showing 2k what they are doing?"
The problem with Live isnt what features the game is going to have....its whether the game is actually going resemble actual basketball. After the Elite demo issues and the Live video that leaked last year, people have doubts about how the gameplay is going to look. The only thing theyve shown is a prerendered video from E3 that no one believes will look like the actual game.
Also, you do know that development team is different than the marketing team, right? It would take 30 min tops to create a 2 min video of straight gameplay. The marketing team would then edit it and send it out via the web. This will take no time out of the dev team working on the game or fixing bugs.
Finally, so you think that GTA V and current gen NBA 2k are so powerful that a Live video would get lost in the hype but you are ok with EA waiting until the 40 other next gen games (on both systems) start their hype machines? It wont get lost in the hype then? Other next gen games like Fifa, Watch Dogs, Ryse, Knack and Forza have all released clips and the GTA hype hasnt hurt their presales. **** UFC released a video and that game wont be out til May.
Anyway, make all the excuses you want. I would be ok with waiting if EA hadnt pulled this **** twice. But they did the same thing with Elite AND last year's canceled version of Live.
And it would take more than 5 minutes to make a gameplay video. They have to essentially create a demo in order to record the footage, which the marketing team can't do.
And yes, Live marketing would get lost in the hype right now. The consoles are two months away. The NBA season doesn't start for a month and a half. The NFL season just started.Comment

Announcing modes doesn't reveal anything special. Gameplay reveals a lot. It reveals what kind of presentation they have. It shows what their commentary will sound like. It shows how the players move. It can give the competition time to tweak some things that they may not have thought of before.
And it would take more than 5 minutes to make a gameplay video. They have to essentially create a demo in order to record the footage, which the marketing team can't do.

The consoles being out in 2 mos means nothing. Ive seen full videos from every launch game except for Madden and NBA2k at this point and I've already explained why its too early for those. ****, I saw a minute clip from Fifa almost a month ago.
You couldnt be more wrong about the footage. They dont have to create a demo. Thats ****ing ridiculous. They have a beta version of the game RIGHT NOW because they are two months from release. The game has to go gold 3-4 weeks before release so that means that they only have around 5 weeks tops to work on the retail version. If they dont have a beta version at this point....something is really wrong.
All you have to do is play the beta version (which the team and some testers are already doing) and record it. The marketing team can edit it.Last edited by aholbert32; 09-12-2013, 07:00 PM.Comment

Huh? So NBA2k is in full promotional mode when it comes to current gen and they arent getting lost in the GTA hype. The fact that the NBA season doesnt start until Nov. has never hurt their sales or hype.

You dont need to. I knew you were clueless about this subject the minute you mentioned them having to create a demo to show a video clip of the game. LOL. I guess EA had to create a demo to show a video their pre-Alpha version of UFC a few weeks ago. So clueless.Comment

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
- 80% are nostalgic about the fun Live they started playing basketball video games with.
- 10% hates 2K's online but love Live's
- 5% just wants something different no matter what and will support that.
- 5% Are just loyal fans and will support regardless.
Of course I have no facts on this but it is my opinion. Saying all that I hope Live is decent enough to force competition.Comment

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
They have to have something in fully playable form in order to create a gameplay video to show off (AKA a demo). Since people have the game under the microscope due to recent history, it would not be wise of them to release a beta gameplay with glitches, because people would simply run with that and compare it to the last 2 games that did not come out. It is much smarter to wait until they have a solid, fundamental build to work with before releasing anything like that.
Again, I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Everything discussed is purely speculation. If they don't release anything by their own self-imposed deadline, then you can say whatever you want.Comment

How am I clueless? Let's look at it this way, since you are so interested in talking about their track record the last 3 years:

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
Well the game releases on Nov 15 for PS4 and the 22 for the Xbox One. So they have exactly 2 months for each of the games. But they also have to package the games and get them shipped. Plus do their marketing for the game too. I'm not worried Scott O'Brien said we would see stuff and hear about games modes in the next few days. He said they were releasing the video when they were near complete. Hopefully they are putting the finishing touches on it.Comment

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
Still clueless. They are 2 months out from release. They are 4-5 weeks from the game going gold. If they cant record a 2-5 min clip without significant glitches at this point, the game is in bad shape and we all need to be concerned. ****, it doesnt even have to be 2 continuous minutes. They could edit the significant glitches out of the video (I've seen PES and EA do that in the past)
Again if they dont have a solid fundamental build (I'm not saying w/o glitches cause all games have glitches even after release) 5 weeks from going gold, something is wrong.Comment

Re: WHEN ARE WE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SOME 5 ON 5 GAMEPLAY???
You clearly missed the point of what I was trying to say. They have to make sure that whatever they do release is near perfect, or people will nit-pick and compare it to Elite/Live 13. Case in point: the E3 CG trailer with out of proportion player models. Immediately the reaction was that they still can't get the player models right. They are under the microscope with anything they release, so they have to make sure that what they release is as close to complete as possible. There is still plenty of time for them to make changes.
Newsflash: This game wont be perfect or even near perfect. No game is. When they do release a video in a week or in a month....the video will still be nitpicked and criticized.
If anything, releasing a video would help them. Ive seen multiple times, 2k release a video, someone on this forum sees something thats wrong with the game, posts it in the forum and the dev team see that issue and fix it before release (ex. the lack of a walking animation in the 2k10).
Finally, I didnt miss your point. Your initial point was that it would take too much time for the dev team to create a video and that they need to create a demo for that to happen. That is absolutely false. You now changed your point to say that the video has to be near perfect.Comment
