They need to just make NBA street, if you go to any 2k video their are plenty of comments saying they'd buy NBA street over or along side 2k.
EA has proven to me they cannot make any simulation sports game with great gameplay so just stick to arcade genre.Comment

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
Live has/had promise. I liked the 1 on 1 battles where you can actually be a lock down defender. I actually prefer The One over MyCareer. I feel it is more realistic. You start out at a more competitve overall. There isn't the pressure to purchase microtransactions. The Street element adds depth. The issue is that the NBA aspect of that mode wasn't fun to play.
EA has to show they are serious about Live. Even if that means releasing something this year and skip next year completely to focus on Live 22. Where they could relsease Live 20 November or even late December, and continue to update the game for the next year and half. I think EA will have an improved version of Frostbite for next gen. So have other EA games test the waters for the first year of next gen. All while spending 21-22 months developing for next gen.Comment

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
I think eas problem is that they can only do gameplay well. I think it is potentially Sim, but stuff like deep modes, deep coaching, animations etc all contribute to what you believe Sim is. That's what they sucked at, but I've never felt any more arcade on live than any other game, when I'm immersed and going vs people online. Sure weird stuff happens but it happens in every game.
Live has some issues but they aren't far from sim. Depth, however... But depth actually inhibits balance if you focus on that first. You end up with too much stuff that there's no way to balance well.

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
If EA lost the exclusivity for the NFL, NHL, and many of the soccer leagues, what is happening to Live would be the fate of all the EA Sports games. It's time to end the exclusivity deals and allow more than one AAA company to produce sports games. This entire generation of consoles SHOULD be a wake up call to sports gamers. We're getting a subpar product year after year while the EA, 2K, and SDS continue to haul in massive profits from these ******* Ultimate Team modes. We must demand better going into the PS5/XBOX...whatever era.Comment

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
Yeah sports games have really went down hill big time. Madden has not really been the same post ps2 and live I think can get good it does some things really well but its not there yet, and mlb the show went from being the best graphics of any sport game by far last gen to this gen looking worse then nba live, 2k and madden, and has had bullpen issues for like 10+ years. Also shows franchise mode has not seen updates for a long time. NHL has been kind of up and down to.
I have been underwhelmed with sports game this generation. I felt like that the whole ESports/Online and Ultimate Team/MyTeam was the focus for sports gamees this generation. But honestly I don't think that will change next generation. Part of what made the PS2/Xbox and parts of PS3/360 sports game era, was sports game put a focus on single player experience and offline. This past gen, games felt simplified and streamlined for for ESports/competitive gamingComment

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
They thing is we have had what 2-3 nba live games canceled in the last 10 years already? That dosnt look good and if 20 ends up like that again that dont look good. Live has a lot of promise I fell like has the way players movie fells really good and being able to drawl fouls on jump shoots is great. Yeah the thing with sports games is you are only on a 1 year time to make a game and so now with this if 20 does end up comming out then 21 is going to have a shorter time to work on. How much shorter we dont known because we dont known if it is going to come out and if it does come out later this year we dont known how much later. We dont known if it would be like October or November or even December.
For me, I think next generation will have a big impact. If it was any other year, I think they could delay this year and slightly delay next year. But with next generation coming out, it surely will have an impact. Usually sports release a next gen version at console launch, even if it is just stripped down game to show off the power of next gen graphics. I don't think Live can even focus on that when they are still trying to get the current gen down pact.Comment

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
Lol same old thing. People saying if it helps the game, let them cancel it and make a better one next year, how many years are people going to say that?
Live had years to make Live 14, and it was probably the worst basketball game we have ever seen hit shelves, I am not exaggerating.
In my mind, outside of depth in Franchise mode, and a little bit deeper gameplay, this game is actually the game to beat.
The problem is: They don't update rosters. Newer players that come into the NBA aren't noticed and are left off of teams for months. And Franchise mode and editing are so bare bones, that a lot is to be desired.
Honestly, if those were the only problems, I would be confident in Live. But the real problem is, even if they fix those things, they can't market themselves out of this hole.
We had multiple Lives in a row where in late game situations the computer had no awarness, to the point that if they were down 3, they would just let the clock run out.
We had multiple lives without roster editing or basic features.
We had an NBA Live cancelled.
We've had delays.
On top of all of these issues, 2k has become what I call a cultural hit.
In my mind, it blows my mind that people are still okay with starting at a 57 overall, and paying literally $100 in VC alone just to get to like a 90 rating. It is so popular that they can market VC, make you pay for haircuts, etc.
But no matter what, it is such a cultural phenomenon. NBA players all want to know what their ratings are, they are constantly giving 2K free marketing. As long as NBA players are playing 2K, as long as they have a partnership with the NBA, and as long as it's such a cultural phenomenon, Live can't do anything.
So even though I think Live is only a couple of steps away, their marketing is so bad, and their track record is so bad, that honestly, I don't see any way they could ever become a better game. It would take a radical amount of marketing money to get them back into it, and they haven't ever invested significant money into this game, why would they when they don't get a lot of profit from it?
And the fact that we've had players who were the wrong race for literally months, doesn't give me hope that Live will ever be decent and updating their rosters, so even if they get everything else down, I doubt they will ever be good at that, so even I'm jumping ship.Last edited by zrohman; 08-01-2019, 01:21 AM.Comment

Live 19 is pretty good by the way right now. If you abandoned the game a few months ago, come back and see how they improved the game lately, i am really enjoying the heck of it right now with modified sliders in Franchise mode. The reason I wrote this is i'm seeing comments here talking about Nba Live 19 with past tense, like it was released 10 years ago. It's pretty good. RIGHT NOW ! Come and seeBALL DON'T LIE

Re: NBA Live 20 Delayed Until Late 2019 as Team Plans a Different Approach
The optimism for this game, and this belief that they're "doing it for the gamers" is a trip. NBA Live 19 is alright, and there are some things I like over NBA 2K (mainly shooting percentages, realistic outcomes, low number of badges). However, EA just really need to let Live die, and 2K needs to hire some of their development team members to infuse fresh new ideas into NBA 2K. As someone stated before, NBA 2K is a cultural hit at a level that Live NEVER was. EA is not going to overcome that unless NBA 2K makes a catastrophic mistake, and that won't happen due EA being literally the blueprint of what mistake not to make with a sports title. At the end of the day, NBA Live lacks brand recognition except to a group of old heads that grew up on the game during the 90's and early 2000's.Comment

But even on that big roster update, outside of the rookies being missing which is expected, they are still missing some basic players. Hard to play a game that can't even get the correct players in the game. If they fixed this, this would be my go to game.
But even being my go-to-game, again, their marketing is terrible. They wouldn't even need to pay a lot of money, simply pay one person to get involved in forums, to post exciting articles, to post ratings and screenshots, to hype the game, etc. But they never hype this game even 10% as much as 2k, and with all the FREE marketing 2k gets, simply because NBA players love it, it's hard to beat that. And as annoyed as I get with seeing 200 screenshots of NBA players every year, it's a heck of a way for them to market.Comment
