Thank you for that post! Amazing to see you went through all 40 years regardless if you simmed. I wish I paid more attention to the little details like you have because this game is full of them.

Do you plan on doing another legacy?

Re: Interesting things that's happened in legacy.

I actually started another closed legacy a few days ago and am currently entering the 12th season. With it being semester break and conference season starting up (huge win for Purdue over #11 Illinois Wednesday night!), I'm in full college basketball mode right now. Like a couple others in this thread, I've been keeping a list of the championship games through the years to see which teams win. I suppose I can list the results so far (using 2012-2013 rosters):

      2008: (1)IU over (1)UCLA
2009: (5)Marquette over (11)Texas A&M *(Most under-seeded team I've ever seen in this game. A&M lost 5 conference games, 8 total during the regular season, and had an RPI of 33 going into tourney. They did lose their first game in the conference tournament, but still...)
      2010: (6)UConn over (4)West Virginia
2011: (1)Michigan State over (2)Iowa *This was an all B1G Final Four (MSU vs. IU, Michigan vs. Iowa)
      2012: (2)Stanford over (4)Providence
      2013: (3)IU over (2)South Carolina
      2014: (5)Ohio State over (1)Providence
      2015: (1)UCLA over (2)Michigan State
      2016: (3)USC over (2)Tennessee
2017: (2)Michigan State over (8)Louisville *(Under-seeded like A&M in 2009. Louisville was the highest rated team this season, at 95, but managed to lose 8 regular season games, all in conference)
      2018: (2)Alabama over (2)Georgia Tech

I started at Georgia Southern and stayed for 4 years, having 20+ win seasons in the last two but never won a conference championship (Davidson won all four years). The team had 4 freshman starters my first year, so in their junior and senior year the team unity was full by the conference tournament. I took the Troy job and stayed for 7 seasons. Troy was the highest rated team in the Sun Belt when I took over, and I managed to win the Sun Belt in each of my 7 seasons, winning the conference tournament in the last 6 (received at at-large bid in the first season). Troy was usually rated in the 80s going into a season, while the rest of the Sun Belt was in the 70s. Going into my last season at Troy, I used the same formula at Kansas that won me a national championship: 7 man veteran rotation, with 5 seniors and 2 juniors. I went 27-3 during the regular season, breezed through the conference tournament, and ended up losing to the eventual champs Alabama in the Final Four. The team started the season at 90 overall, finished at 92 overall.

Rick Barnes retired at Texas in the offseason and I accepted the Texas job, and that's where I'm at right now. Texas went 15-16 this past season, but the team started two freshmen, two sophomores, and a senior, so I return four starters rated 81, 80, 80, and 79, with my fifth starter being a 78 rated sophomore.

      Some notes:
      • I used the following conference realignment in this legacy *(The link doesn't want to work, but it's in the thread "Conference Changes", my reply, #8 in the thread.)
      • UNLV has been a 1 seed in 5 of the 11 NCAA tournaments, having made the tournament in every season, however they only have one Final Four appearance. The Mountain West is usually one of the top 6 conferences in terms of RPI.
      • Under my realignment, the Big East teams are in the SEC, meaning only 12 of the original 16 Big East teams are in the same conference. Only twice in the 11 seasons has the Big East (the teams I placed in the SEC) received less than 8 bids, and once they received 10 bids. Ridiculous.
      • Something I find interesting, and someone earlier in this thread mentioned it: Duke and UNC are mediocre programs after Coach K and Roy Williams retire in the majority of legacies I’ve played.
      • Southern Utah has won the Summit League 6 of the past 7 seasons, all of which have been 20+ win seasons. Their team is rated at 78 overall, the next closest in the Summit is IPFW at 72, and the rest are in the high 60s.
      • Geno Ford is entering his eight season at Maryland (made Gary Williams the head coach to start since it’s his record in the game, not Mark Turgeon’s). Tommy Amaker is entering his tenth season at Oregon. Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart are still with Butler and VCU, which may be b/c the teams in the Colonial Conference in real life I placed in the Big East in the game, so the game thinks Butler and VCU are power conference jobs. Mark Few is still at Gonzaga; he’s never stayed this long there in any legacy I’ve done.
      • A Kansas assistant took over for Chattanooga after the first two seasons of the legacy, and during my last two seasons at Georgia Southern, Chattanooga sorta became my rival, as they would beat me once or twice a season when I had a better overall rated team. After one season at Troy, I noticed the Chattanooga head coach accepted the UALR opening, and once again he has coached his team to be a spoiler. In my Final Four season, my only conference loss was to his UALR team. He is still there, but I will sh*t bricks if he accepts a head coaching job in the Big 12 soon (maybe Kansas will hire him once Self retires?).

I’ll probably be able to finish this legacy before the college basketball season ends, but it won’t be anytime soon with school starting up again on Monday.

Nice, nice I like where this thread is going now. I'll post my epic matchup against our rivals Indiana later when I'm on my computer.

Re: Interesting things that's happened in legacy.

          Some more interesting notes:
          • Going into my third season at Texas, Gonzaga had perhaps the greatest recruiting class I've ever seen. They only signed 3 recruits, but they were the #1, #2, and #15 overall recruits in the class. The #1 recruit came into the season at 85 overall with B+ potential! The #2 recruit you ask? 84 overall with A- potential! The #15 recruit was a 79 overall with B potential. The top six players on their roster were all rated 85 or above, and their overall team rating going into the season was 95.
          • Troy (my previous stop for 7 seasons) went 30-0 in the regular season and won the conference tournament during my third season at Texas. I have never seen a team run the table in my years of playing this game, so I was pulling hard for them to win the national championship. They ultimately lost in the Sweet 16 to VCU. The head coach for Troy, that one that took over for me, accepted the Texas Tech job, so now I'll be facing him at least twice a season.
          • Southern Utah has become the "VCU" from my previous legacy. After my first season at Texas, the S. Utah coach took the UNLV job and has gone 22-13 and 27-9 at UNLV. Two seasons later K. McDonald left S. Utah for Arkansas when Mike Anderson retired. Fred Hoiberg was fired form Iowa State and accepted the S. Utah job, so expect him to be in a power conference very soon.
          • The Kansas assistant I mentioned in my previous post was fired from UALR and took the Montana job. His career record is 134-166. I don't think I'll have to worry about him any time soon.
          • Rick Ray (who in real life is the head coach at Mississippi State) was a Purdue assistant coach both in real life (from 2006-2010) and when I started this legacy. After 12 seasons in the game he accepted the Prairie View A&M job, and two seasons later (this past offseason) he accepted the Missouri State job. What's more interesting is in real life, Missouri State has been a stopping ground recently for former Purdue assistants. Cuonzo Martin (current Tennessee head coach, former Purdue player/assistant coach) was the head coach at Missouri State from 2008-2011, and when he left for the Tennessee job, Paul Lusk took over. Paul Lusk was a Purdue assistant from 2004-2011.

Anthony Bennett transferred to Troy in my legacy along with Kevin "Yogi" Ferell who went to western michigan pretty cool considering i never see how overall players transfer.

arkana04, do you remember what happened with Yogi? Did Crean bring in a stud freshman or was Yogi severely underrated in the rosters you have? Just interesting to me b/c IMO Yogi is the best freshman IU has. It'll be fun watching him and Purdue's freshman PG Ronnie Johnson (brother of Purdue JR guard Terone Johnson) go at it over the next few seasons.

Yogi was about an 80 overall sophmore when he transferred

I don't like IU winning those 2 NC's, LOL. Iowa in the championships game??!! Sheeeeeesh.....

As I've been posting in the career legacy forum, I've got a closed legacy with IPFW going (2011-12 rosters apart from my custom Boilers roster, but it won't matter much because...). I'm in season 3 now, and I've got my eyes on 5 2* players that, added in with my twin towers i have now, as well as my promising SF, should ultimately push IPFW into the NIT at least. As I say this, we're getting smashed by #16 Iowa State LOL, but the future is coming....
James Naismith visited an Indiana basketball state finals game along with 15,000 screaming fans and later wrote, that while it was invented in Massachusetts, "basketball really had its origin in Indiana, which remains the center of the sport."

Its crazy that LMU is a mid-major, the West Coast conf is so good in my legacy.

Thanks Brock. Also, I have never had any of my assistants leave before that I recall which is pretty weird. You'd think after national titles they'd wanna leave for a better job.

Yeah I was surprised my assistants didn't leave either. My second assistant is now a B+ over, which is weird for a second assistant or one that's never been a HC before.

Just saw a guy transfer from Charlotte to Duke, not sure if that counts but his minutes got cut by a junior who had the same rating.

The best Generated prospect I've ever encountered is a SG from Oregon. Had a 90 OVR his freshman year and I managed to pull him in during my 10 year tenure at Boise St. (7 Conference Titles. Only 2 NCAA Tourney wins. ): ) but anyways, Orlando Marshall, Next Kobe, 92 Mid range, could really score from anywhere anytime. Amazing player. 32.4 PPG in the ABL. I NEARLY FLIPPED when he commited.

He left after one year, only pulling in 23 PPG, and 5 RPG. I always wonder how much I could've done if he had good help.
