I have to agree. In the legacy in my sig, there have been plenty of times where a recruit i did not end up having much competition for ended up being great. One season, i was against drexel and richmond for a 7'2" 5* center ranked #1 at his position. He ended up having A potential and the will probably leave early for the nba. I have also gotten a number of 4 star recruits who slipped through early season recruiting and had ratings in the high 70s or low 80s.

Re: Interesting things that's happened in legacy.

One thing i learned and one game that made me angry.

What i learned: if you to an early season tournament that schedules additional games if you win, the game will not check for conflicts. It is possible to play two games on the same day even if they are in different ooc tournaments.

Frustrating game: i had some video game crap happen in one game. I was shutting my opponent down wonderfully but the game stayed way too close becuase my team was just off. No one could hit threes, which happens. However, my team was also super slow. Every single one of them.

But things got worse in the closing minutes. On one inbound pass, my pg fell over before the ball got to him. My opponent was not pressing and no one was near him. On a later, more critical possession, i did another inbound pass after my opponent bit a big shot to tie the game. My pg was running across the middle of the court to court to catch the ball in stride and avoid the press. While the ball was in the air, the game cut to a highlight of my opponent's bucket. When it cut back to on court game play, i heard a whistle and my pg was out of bounds.

The replay showed my pg and the basketball teleporting to the sideline and my pg running out of bounds. wtf

Of course, the game went to overtime. I was nursing a small lead and was caught in the press. I use icon passing and tried to pass to my small forward to (x button on the 360). With the icons up, my pg tried to beat the prsss by attempting a 3/4 court shot.

This game normally runs so smoothly. I have never had one contest have so much buggy behavior.

Obviously there are always exceptions to any rule, but in this case, it's a very good rule to use.

I can safely say I've never used this rule, and that I generally do the opposite, with great success.

Thad Matta got fired at Ohio State after 16 seasons (and missing the tournament for the last 8, including a 3-27 final season), and I took over for him at my dream school.

After a year off, he got the job at Saint Louis and turned them into a power in short order. They went 32-6 this season, advancing to the Elite Eight.

Neat to see big-time coaches turning a lower program around.

I'm sure some, if not most of you guys have seen this. But I just noticed that recruits tend to stay with the coach more so than the school. For example, I was recruiting a guy from Cali and he had SDSU (me) #1 on his list, and his top priority was staying close to home. I left that year and went to NC State and to my surprise I was still 1st on his list and SDSU dropped off completely. His top priority was being close to home, but he was willing to all the way across the country (and he did) just because he liked me. He could have easily gone to USC, UCLA, or Arizona who were all closer to home and recruiting him. The Demarcus Cousins/Calipari effect, if you will.

That is odd that staying close to home was his top priority and he still went with you across the country.. I seem to think usually it would just depend on the player. I've been at schools and been about to get a good recruit when I then take a job at a better school, and while I'm still fairly high on the same recruits interest level, I have dropped off a good bit, enough where I won't get that recruit. Just depends I guess! If you have good coaching stats and getting good coaching is also high on his list that may be enough for him to stick with you since the coach is important to him.

i love this game so much. i read someones post earlier this year about how this game is so real it doesnt even know it when nerlens noel tore his acl in the game. anyway i'm in my second year in career legacy with UT Martin and I love it. i'm using mkharsh sliders with 20 minute halves, i know its a lot, but its worth it to me. anyway i was recruiting this season and look who i come across...

5 star JC point guard recruit Allan Iversen. 6'3 from bronx new york.

to put the cherry on the cake, he had no scholarship offers before i offered him. its like the game was gifting him to me.

i swear this guy was generated in game and not created by me. when i saw it my jaw dropped lol

i've been hooked on this game for the last 2 months with no end in sight, and its surprising considered i've owned it for 5 years.

                  allan iversen lol

I believe that the game generated him. We've all seen some crazy names! When I was at LIU I recruited a center named D'Or Knox, and pg named D'or Bell. It took me a couple times of looking at their names trying to pronounce it until I had the Ooooh moment lol

Oh yeah, hate to burst your bubble big guy, but you have NO chance of snagging him (only becuase bigger schools have such a huge lead on you)

I'll keep you updated. I thought I had no chance at Barton, but now I'm first on his list. He's a 7'2 280 lb center from Washington. He had UW as his number one but they haven't offered yet and I'm slowly climbing with my A+ charisma. No doubt Allan iversen is my number 1 priority though.

I just advanced a week and I'm number 3 on iversen's list. Still only one offer from me. I'm behind Villanova and manhattan. Wish me luck. I'm also recruiting a 4 star jc SF and I'm number 2 on his list and his only offer behind ksu.

Speaking of eye-catching recruit names, in my Kansas legacy about 2 years prior to my current season, I remember a 6'0'' 5* PG by the name of Clifton Paul. Looked just like Chris Paul/Cliff Paul. haha

I've only had a handful of freshmen leave early for the draft, but I had a point guard leave this time (something I haven't seen, usually it's the forwards and centers that leave that early in the game).

Anybody have the specifics on players leaving early?

Re: Interesting things that's happened in legacy.

Here's what I can offer after religiously playing this game for about 2 years now. Players leaving early is a combination of high OVR rating, high potential, high performance and luck getting a combination of those.

When scouting recruits, look for the 5 star recruits that have "A" potential and up. Usually when scouting, providing you have a good scout, you'll be off by one letter grade from the actual potential rating. Ex. A recruit with "A" potential during recruitment will likely have "A-" potential when he's on your roster.

The overall comes down to luck. You'll be hoping your player to be at least an 80+ OVR coming in. If he's an 80 OVR, it may take 2-3 years for him to leave if he's not already projected as a lottery pick. In most cases, even when freshman or sophomores are projected as lottery picks, they still don't leave because the way the game progresses (and doesn't regress players), those players will be top picks the following year. That's one of the main reasons it's hard to get players to leave early; their draft stock usually keeps going up the longer they stay. Players favor leaving as a Senior top pick as opposed to being a freshman First Round/Second Round projected prospect (likely due to the lower OVR being a freshman).

Two nice tips on getting some recruit's OVR higher are to see if they are out of position, and do drills with them. Drills: If you do drills with players, you can get a player +2 OVR over the course of one season. The drills plus the high potential rating will make players progress even more quickly, so that's what makes this possible. In addition to that, if you are a decent coach, you can get players with high potential to increase their OVR by 3-4 points over the season by doing nothing (though you can assume team practice is the reason for the progression).

I had a 6'5" PG I signed that was a 79 OVR. I switched his position to SG and he was an 82 coupled with an A- potential. He grew 5 OVR points over the season through just practice and drills and was an 87 OVR during the tourney projected as a lottery pick. Because he was the star of his team leading the team in points, had a decent stat line, and carried his team to the Final Four, he left for the draft his freshman year.

That's just one scenario I experienced, but the bottom line is you have to groom these HS-All American studs into leaving early if you can. You may not always get a one-and-done, but you can definitely get many 2 or 3-and-dones.

There's also an easier route through editing. If you're running an open legacy and want one-and-done players, edit the top 2 players for their position every year to at least an 84-85 OVR (at the start of the season so they continue to develop) and edit their potential to A+. If you do that, I'd say 80% of the time they will leave. I had a recruit with an 86 OVR and A potential leave after one year despite only being a sixth man.
