you know I'm one of those that gripes about that and I'm actually befuddled. AI changed my perception of him at the last Olympics. I fell in love with the guy (not like that!).

I think thats the way it is for a lot of people. I didn't even think it was an option for them to leave him off.

But they are preparing this year for the '06 World Championships. I would safely assume that it is "highly unlikely" that the College or HS players will make the final 12 for the Worlds this year. It is also a possibility that none of the College or HS players could see international competition in both '06 and '08 and they are merely practice players for the 3 year commitment.

I think thats bad. AI was a star who went to athens while alot others didnt and then played his heart out. he lead the team to a bronze medal which wasnt bad considering the talent they had. I think if anyone AI deserves a spot.

According to this, there are going to be 22 NBA'ers, 2 college players, 1 high-schooler.
Redick, Morrison and Oden, I assume?

                          Wow.

AI will be 33, but his body will be bumping 40, so I don't think the Olympics would be in AI's best interest anyway...but with guys declining invites, how in the heck do you turn down a player of his status who is so eager to go? A guy who considers it an honor, a guy who busted his *** last time and is now hell bent on winning the gold? No matter who is on the list, they aren't ALL better fits than AI. It's a bit disrespectful, IMO.

This is BS A.I. was one the first guys to step up and want to play in Athens and for his country. He plays great on a big stage with all-star caliber plalyers. I'm thinking this is a Coach K move and I don't think it's right. This guy will have veteran leadership, he was a captain in Athens. He deserves this more than any other player. You think in a day and age when so many players refuse to play they would show respect to someone who wants to play for his country. This is an outrage.

Unless international rules allow for 2 basketballs on the court I don't think Iverson and Kobe on the same team is a good idea. So they are going with Kobe. Simple as that.

Having a team with zero chemistry has already failed miserably. This team would be more successful with someone like Paul running the offense. Basketball is one sport where fielding all star teams is great for egos but doesn't do much for winning. Team USA does not want to be embarrased again and they know AI would accept so thier hands were tied. It was either him or Kobe but they didn't want both and I tend to agree.

I hear what everyone is saying but remember that Coach K is a no-nonsense type of coach. Remember that A.I. is the ultimate "me" player just like so many others in the league. I think he had conflict last Olympics with Larry Brown about being late didn't he? That probably would be enough reason for them not to pick him up. Ya'll know that Riddick is going cause he's a great shooter. I personally think that they are looking for more role players that won't complain about getting touches. We also need shooters which was clearly missing last time. I hope that whoever we get sincerely steps up and shows great team ball. I was hurt a little but Iverson already won a gold medal didn't he? Let some more people grab some too.......
