I love this argument. Who wants a guy who can drop 30+ PPG while averaging 7+ assists when we can have a "pure PG" like Ridnour. "Pure PG" is a nice way of saying a guy can't score. If their APG numbers are the same (Iverson's are actually better), who wouldn't rather have the guy who's also a scoring threat? Kevin Ollie is more of a "pure PG" than Iverson is, but I'm thinkin' I'd rather have AI running the point....

Of course, because we all know Ivy will be Averaging 33 and 7 while shooting 45% 2 years from now...

Did you read the part where I said there will already be enough scoring???

Yep, and in an era where pure pgs are few are pretty rare. I would take chris pual, tf ford, luke, and even JJ redick over AI for the olympic team not because they are all better than ai but they are building a team not an high scoring "all star team".

          Give me a break.

You put Iverson with players as good as him, Guarantee he would defer his role and look pass first

Iverson should be there... PERIOD! Not sure if anyone caught any of the games in athens but Iverson played his heart out and prob had the best performance out of anybody there (including Timmy D). He had the best shooting percentage for them and even went when just about EVERY OTHER star backed out. How does someone like shaq, who is gonna be HELLA old by then still have an open invite? Sure he is great but if we are talking about 2 years from now, he is gonna be old. So i dont really wanna hear about the age thing. And yes, Iverson still played like a team player in athens when he could have EASILY been the focus of the offense. I dont wanna hear how he cant play with other allstars. People obviously dont watch allstar games (literally, people dont watch them ) where there are a lot more stars than those that are gonna be in the olympics.

I agree with this. History has shown that AI can be unselfish among his peers. He's never really had a true "peer" (meaning a fellow top-10 player) on the 6'ers which I think skews the perception of what kind of player he is or can be. I really can't begin to fathom the reasoning behind leaving him home for the World games.

SMH at the people saying Luke > A.I....HONESSSSSSSSTLY. Luke cant play defense whatsoever. dont even try it. Luke is a horrible man to man defender, dont let stats w/ steals tell the story. Watch him play. Luke would lose to allen iverson 1 on 1 if A.I was 50 and Luke was 25.

A.I has something luke or any other pg on that team will ever have. Heart. A.I will give you everything he has, he'll become a pass first PG if he needs too, and at the same time he can get you hoops, play defense.

Iverson may have played with the most heart, however Odom played the most productively IMHO.........
I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!

AI should be the first choice of players to be picked, guys in here are sayin that there is enuff scorers, AI is a way better disher than luke will ever be. did yall ever watch AI in the all star games? he only scored when he had to. AI is the most underated player in the NBA today, how many guys today have the heart he has and how many guys wouldnt played with those injuries he had. I say NONE LOL at shaq missing games cuz of his big toe. how many players would have lead my poor 76ers to the records we had over the years with those bad rosters, the knicks should be ashamed of them selfs

He was one of the few who actually played with heart, pride and a purpose during the games.

Yet they will pick the poster boys who all missed wide open jumpers, shot airballs, hit the side of the backboard etc.

That's why basketball fans looking at the USA team from the outside will continue to laugh at the players picked and the style of play. Not to mention the attidudes, ego's and the utter foul language on the court...

                        Good luck.

                        Bingo.

This is ultimate bull****. There is no reason one of the best players in the league (Not only didn't make the team) dude didn't even get an invite. It's disgusting
You said it. I'm not a Kobe *****, but he's like a freakin' blackhole! AI has shown in the past that he can "dish" the ball when needed. I'm not going to cheer against the USA if AI doesn't go, but I don't think I will be upset if they don't win gold again.

Like many others, I don't understand how he got left off, but it seems to me that the USA Olympic team this year is more about who they want to present to other countries. I guess AI doesn't look as presentable as a few others with all his tatoos and the like, which is silly in my opinion, but it's the only reason I can really come up with.

I agree with DookieMowf. They get mad when people don't want to go play for the team, and then when someone is first in line to volunteer, they leave him off. Luke Ridnour? Why would they want to send him to the Olympics over Allen Iverson?

Last year they didnt have anybody that could shoot the ball, but now it looks like they want people who can only shoot the ball.

I can talk about this forever...but the bottom line is...AI should be on the team, and it feels like he didnt fit the image that was wanted. Silly.

Steven A Smith just reported during the CHI-CLE game on ESPN that Coach K in fact did have a lot of input with the assembly of this team, and that the team is to be built around Kobe Bryant.
