He doesn't require the ball in his hands IMO. He's a natural point guard that has an uncanny talent to score the basketball as well. Whenever in the ASG or the Olympics, hes always passed the ball around and gets everyone involved. Not to mention, he's one of the league's best one on one AND team defender's in the league. The same can't be said for a lot of guards on this team, Ridnour included.

Heck, Kirk Hinrich should be on the team before Ridnour.
whoa, what? one of the Best one on one defenders in the league? try again. Iverson plays the passing lanes well but thats about it. his man to man defense is vastly overrated, and 9 out of 10 teams would consider him a defensive liability in a man to man situation because of his size

Anyway, you can average alot of assists and still be a me-first player. Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury are good examples, want them on your US "team" ?? Regardless if Iverson was averaging 10 assists, he still demands the ball in his hands 90% of the time. And with those 10 assists, he's going to take 20 shots, because thats the type of player he is. Just because he would have Wade and all those guys around him doesn't mean he's going to turn into a pass first guy. This is why Ridnour gets the nod over him in this situation. Want Iverson and Kobe as youre starting backcourt? No one else would get a shot.

And Ridnour is a very solid playmaking PG, high basketball IQ and passes the ball as well as any PG in the league. he is getting better too

Iverson is not a defensive liability AT ALL, no matter what his size his. He's got long arms, big hands, he's quick, and he's intelligent. You never see him get beat going to the rim.

And you can't compare him to Francis or Marbury, because Iverson doesnt really have another person on the team some sort of scorers mentality. Francis had Mobley for a while, Marbuary has every overpaid 2-guard in the league. Iverson has...Kyle Korver.

Can't back you on this one. He really is an overrated defender. A lot like Lebron James, they play the passing lanes well, but get beat bad 1 on 1.

I dont see Iverson getting beat 1 on 1 like you guys do. In any event, Ridnour is MUCH MUCH worse.

True. But that's not the point. Ridnour will only see a little floor time if he does get on the team. He can pass the ball as good as anyone, and he won't take any shots away from the all-star's that he's playing with.

since when does getting alot of steals make you a good defender. ithese are the same ppl that say "he averages alot of assist he cant be a ball hog " stats arent everything and are very deceiving sometimes.

Iverson definitely deserves to make the team over guys like Morrison and Chris paul.

EDIT: and definitely over luke ridnour

I don't see how it's a lock that Ridnour even makes the team. However I believe Ridnour fits what they want to do better than Iverson does. Purely speculation on my part. Bout time they tried to put a team together, instead of just grabbing up all the top scorers in the league and rolling the ball out for them.

With the scorers they already have, is Iverson a needed component? Not to mention this doesn't mean he won't be on the final team.

Not according to his player page on NBA.com. But I don't know one way or another for sure. I agree with the others I think he plays the passing lanes well, but don't think he's a very strong on-ball defender.

who somebody compared AI to marbury ( AI won that battle a long time ago in college) franccis too LOL. Like I said before iverson is the most unapperciated and underrated player in the NBA, try averaging 8-10 assist a game with a bunch of bench plyers on your team and yeah Im calling webber a bench player he is not the young c-webb anymore. iverson is a good defender is not great but he is not bad neither, surely a better passer than luke ridnour. " he is not a team player" that is the most overrated comment people say about AI try watching ALL 82 games the sixers play then comment on that, yeah he is going to score 30 a game but he will give you atleast 6 assist too, and getting assist with a bunch of bench players on your team doesnt come easy. AI penatrates alot if he feel that he got a clear shot why wont he take it he is the go to guy if you dont like that then tell billy king to bring in a true pg and anthor scorer who can create his own shot or a fresh big man. AI never had a fresh big man in his whole carrer.
