Question to the House: Why Isn't Dirk in MVP Discussion?

The early polls are going up everywhere in the media and Dirk is hardly even given a mention. That is ridiculous. I'm curious to hear what excuses yall have now as to why Dirk is not an MVP and not one of the top 5 players in the league. Just about ever criticism that the masses have had about him, he's putting them to rest starting last year and so far this year. Is it because he's a Euro? Is it because he's not putting up 30+ every night? Why are we so ready to hand Steve Nash another MVP? Sure, can't deny that Nash is a legit MVP because of what he's doing, but shouldn't it be closer? Dirk's rebounding are up, he's shooting 50% from the field, defense has improved, and is the ultimate team player who couldn't care less if he scores 30 pts per game. Without Dirk, this team barely makes the playoffs. One more question, will Josh Howard make the All-Star team? If he doesn't, it's a travesty. Recently George when asked about Dirk said that Dirk is the MVP so far and Howard is an all-star. If these two are highly thought of in coaching circles and around the leauge, why don't they get any love from the media and nba fans?

I disagree SoMiss. Dirk is definitely in the MVP discussions.

Matter of fact he's IMO the #1 or #2 candidate depending on what you're looking for.

I don't think anyone is being handed the award yet, and there is another half of a season to play before you crown anyone, but all in all Dirk is definitely up there.

I agree no one is being handed the award yet but we're approaching the halfway point and the discussions. I agree that Nash and Dirk should 1 and 2. not trying to crown anyone yet but of course places like bspn have started putting up polls and the big german is nowhere to be seen.

That place is no indication of how your team is doing or anything of substance about basketball.

They pick their own flavor of the week and they run with it. If their favorite pet loses a game, they wont put up a link or a picture about them (although they will if they win), and it has become very annoying.

Believe me though, people see what's happening down there in big D. In the end the true candidates will stand out amongst the pretenders.

dre, there are those here at OS who wouldn't give him a single vote.

LOL, and you can point out the bias right away.

According to some on OS, the MVP voting is a sham because their favorite player didn't win it.

Amazing how opinions can change with the wind.

Nash, Dirk, Bryant are the top three if the season ended today is how I have it.

By the time it's all said in done, Gilbert (if the Wiz can win some games), T-Mac (hell the Rox could end up with a 50 win game season, without Yao for two months), Duncan and Boozer have similar numbers and similar records so they are in the race thus far.. and of course Lebron (if they end up with the number 1 seed you would probably see him getting the award)- one of these guys could end up winning.

I agree... the way the season is going, right now its:

                  1. Nash
                  2. Dirk
                  3. LBJ
                  4. Kobe

Those are my top 4 at the moment. Dirk is having a heck of a season, and those who aren't giving him his props, aren't true fans of the game. Howard, on the same note, has been amazing. He should, within all reason, be an all star this year.

Noone wants to mention Tim Duncan though?

You cannot exclude a guy who is leading a team to a better record if you again want to include Kobe Bryant.

I should've had Lebron with the first group of players as well. Because if the season did end today, then the Cavs would have first seed.

I mentioned him! And Boozer. By the time it's all said and done one of those guys could have the award [I honestly see Boozer as farfetched, but look at his numbers and look at the standings, and watch Jazz games.. he and Williams are the Jazz].

Eh... my thing about that is Kobe is doing it with little to no help. He's been without lamar for a lot of time, Kwame and all of the bigs have spent time on the IR, but yet the Lakers continue to win behind the leadership that he's provided. His numbers aren't always stellar, but he makes sure he's getting the job done.

Duncan, in my opinion, has one of the better guards in the game, in Tony Parker, alongside Michael Finlay, who's having a pretty decent season, as well as Ginobli, who has been up and down, but who can still detract some of the focus from Timmy D. Don't get me wrong, he's having a good season, but I think Kobe/LBJ are still ahead of him.

Somiss, Everywhere Ive looked (ESPN, Slam, NBA.com) Dirk has been ranked 1-3 in the MVP rankings. The only person I see regularly ahead of him is Nash. I dont know why you dont think he is in the discussion.
