    LeBron... what's your take?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...simmons/070220 Quote:

To LeBron James, who coasted through the Skills Challenge on All-Star Saturday and played the All-Star Game with the uplifting, charismatic intensity of a female porn star trying to break one of those "most male partners in one afternoon" records. Could we end up putting him in the "Too Much, Too Soon" Pantheon some day? Will he become the basketball version of Eddie Murphy, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and every other celeb who became famous too quickly and eventually burned out?

    LeBron James
    Mark J. Terrill
Before he before becomes a global icon, maybe LeBron should work a little harder on his game.

    Here's what I know. I had four conversations with connected NBA people over the weekend that centered around the same themes: LeBron isn't playing nearly as hard as he did last season; it looks like his only goal right now is to get his coach fired; he's regressing as a basketball player (especially his passing skills and his shot selection); he made a huge mistake firing his agent and turning his career over to his buddies back home (all of whom are in over their heads); he was a much bigger problem during the Olympics than anyone realized; he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself anymore; he has an overrated sense of his own worth and his own impact in the sports world (as witnessed by the ESPN interview last week when he answered the "What are your goals?" question with two words: "Global icon");

he's been protected by magazine fluff pieces and buddy-buddy TV interviews for far too long; he doesn't have the same relentless drive to keep dominating everyone like Wade and Kobe have; and basically, we're much closer to LeBron re-enacting the career arc of Martina Hingis, Eric Lindros and Junior Griffey than anyone realizes. This will evolve into THE dominant NBA story of the next two months. You watch.

for some reason, Lebron doesnt seem as quick this year imo

but i think that writer is overreacting. A lot of the regression in play has to do with the Cavs' lack of a backcourt to help out Lebron. Teams sell out to stop him.

Personally, I think he's coasting at the moment... Last year by the playoffs, it was well known that he was burnt out and dead tired. I just really think he's coasting, but the thing is, the Cavs can't afford to coast. We don't have the Veteran pieces to know how to just suddenly pick it up come playoff time.

That's what's been so disheartening about the whole situation. Hopefully they'll pick it up starting tomorrow at Toronto.

Man what did Martina Hingis and Griffey do to get lumped in with Lindros?
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Is he still playing 40+ minutes per game like he was last year? I haven't watched them much so I don't know but playing that much would burn anyone out.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

People heap so much crap on Lebron, the young man is playing good ball. He has some areas that could use some help, but he is just 21, this writere needs to chill.

Lebron is tired...and im sure he will admit to being tired later...sometime @ the start of next season....between promo campaigns, that olympic stuff and jus playin 40 plus mins last year...i think....either A: hes tired or B: right now he is coasting thru the season and will turn it up in the playoffs....

I don't know if maybe he is somewhat overrated much like Greg Oden is right now(he won't be as effective in today's run orientated NBA than if he had been drafted 20 years ago) They're both great players but will never be dominant like the media portrays them.

With Lebron I think he's a player that does everything well but no single thing incredibly well like Wade's ability to will himself to take over in the 4th quarter and take no prisoners or Kobe's ability to score from anywhere. I honestly think he's best suited as a Magic Johnson type point guard but where he needs a Worthy or Kareem to play alongside him to really take advantage of his skills. His best skill seems to be his court vision. I think he would be happier being Robin rather than Batman. Of course having the world handed to you on a silver platter before you're drafted would kill most people's competitive drive.

Yeah that's what I was gonna say. He's been carrying the Cavs on his back since he got in the league and I can't blame him if he's tired. He's averaging over 41 minutes per game this year after averaging a little over 40 last year along with the world tournament and having a crappy team.

He needs help. The Cavs roster is very average. Z and Hughes as your second and third best players are very average the way they are playing, plus the fact Hughes cant stay healthy.

When he does something great, it's "And he's only 21!"

When he does something bad, it's "But, he's just 21, give him time."

Sorry, criticism come with the hype. Lebron was hyped too much too soon.

Which is sadly the case for many young athletes/celebrities these days. Everyone's looking for the next big thing. The next MJ, the next Magic, the next Bird.

Ain't gonn happen, folks. Especially if you try to force it.

Please tell me how he's failed to live up to the hype. Even the Bulls with Michael Jordan didn't do much until he got help.
