Re: ***Official 2007 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread***
Maybe what happened last night exposes how problematic that rule can be (if indeed the rule means that there needs to be suspensions since I don't know the exact language of the rule) and they adjust the rule starting now. Because it's obvious to everyone that nobody deserves a suspension simply for wandering towards the scrum.Comment

Re: ***Official 2007 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread***
Exactly. I don't WANT to see any suspensions... however, I don't see how they can get by without any. Clearly, both teams broke the rules... and if the league is just and fair... then there will be suspensions. Maybe they can suspend them for like the first game of next season or something... but still... they have to take action, or else they'll be facing other problems in the future.
hahahaha. You mean to tell me this is the first time you would say they were inconsistent?
This getting off the bench rule should only come in place if there is an actual fight.
The NBA already has plenty of problems with the way they enforce rules, or the lack of enforcement.Comment

This rule should only apply when a player gets off the bench and starts throwing punches/pushing people.
Hell, even Duncan walking onto the floor in the second quarter was only a natural reaction. Asking players to completely shut off their emotions is ludicrous.

But that's what the league wanted--robots. They don't want their players to show emotion.
I'm enjoying the hell outta this. I can't wait for the spin Stern and crew come up with. Either everyone who came off the bench at any point in that game gets suspeneded, or Stern and Jackson go back on their own stupid *** rule and piss more people off.Comment

In the end it only hurts the fans because you probably won't find a better series than the one you are watching right now.
Im saying, this isn't the regular season this is the playoffs. If you have no differential in the level of play going on then whats the use of seperating the two?
You raise the level of competition, expect the physical play and adrenaline to flow too.Comment

Re: ***Official 2007 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread***
Interesting. There may be an out for Duncan because the rule states, "During an altercation", was there an altercation when Duncan jumped onto the court? Also the rest of the rule says if they aren't in the vicinity of the bench, this defers from person to person, one may think Amare was in the vicinity while the other won't. I just want to know what happens and end all the speculation.Comment

Re: ***Official 2007 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread***
I think some people have their definition of flopping warped.
Nash got blindsided into the freakin' scorers table. What do you want him to do, fall down in a controlled manner? I swear, man.
As for the suspensions. Horry deserves to be suspended. He tossed Nash into the scorer's table, THEN went and elbowed Raja. That wasn't a hard foul, that was frustration that could have very well led to a total brawl. Going and elbowing Raja shows the intent. Horry deserves two games.
As for Amare and Diaw, we know the rule but they were stopped by the assistants. Plus, if Amare and Diaw get suspended then Duncan and Bowen better be also. Either way, I doubt anything will come out of this in terms of those four, because if Baron didnt get suspended for his dirty *** hit on Fisher, then these guys shouldnt, no matter what the rule says.
CJ, the altercation was when Francisco Elson dunked, fell hard over James Jones. Duncan ran onto the floor and Bowen came too but tried to hold Duncan back.Comment

That's what we call a double standard, Will. Different situations, yes, but hey, you're going to suspend Amare and Diaw when they didn't even get involved in anything, then you sure as hell better do the same for Duncan.Comment

Re: ***Official 2007 NBA Playoffs Discussion Thread***
It's not a double standard, it's a rule. It's when there is an altercation which there obviously wasn't one in this case. Come on now. They don't have to get involved that's what you have to understand. Even the NBA said it doesn't matter what the intentions of the players were, just stay on the bench.Comment

In a play that went entirely unnoticed until well after the game was over, both Duncan and Bowen actually left San Antonio's bench early in the second quarter after Francisco Elson and James Jones were entangled. Replays clearly show Duncan walking several steps onto the court as Elson and Jones appeared to be ready to get into it. Bowen then followed Duncan onto the floor, grabbed him and led him back to the bench. If the league does indeed follow the letter of the law, both Spurs players would also be suspended for Game 5.
The video was sent into the League Office. There was pushing and shoving apparently, but the TNT cameras cut away to Ginobili's schnozz. Figures.Comment
