From a section in the AP report

But Jordan stumbled from the start. He botched the firing of coach Gar Heard and later hired Leonard Hamilton, who in one season produced a 19-63 record. Jordan tried to run the team from his home in Chicago -- the only commuting front-office head in the NBA -- leaving a rudderless team to falter on its own.

Mike was great player !! not a good GM... It should take that long to know if your good GM a or not see Joe Dumars. I thought Detroit was done after Grant Hill left but look at Detroit under Dumars...

You are being very pitiful MVB. MJ isn't done as a GM yet. He didn't get the time to finish what he started, and I doubt you wouldn't find fault with any GM if you looked hard enough. Noone in the GM office could've turned the Wiz into a playoff team in 3 years, except MJ in the case he got injured last year, but they would have made it.

He brought that team back on the map, and got them national, and TV exposure. Sellouts, and subtracted bad contracts. Not bad from the business standpoint.

Are you really going to care about the Wiz now the it's just Stckhouse and friends there? I doubt it. I also doubt they'll be on TV as much, nor will they be in the playoffs in 3 years from now.

yea he blown that by bringing in all those old players and not giving the young kids a chance to play and learn.

Michael Jordan biggest free agent move was to bring in Tyrone Lue!!

Stack played, Haywood played, Dixon got hurt. Jeffries played until injury. Lue played, Hughes played, Stack played, Kwame played minimal probably because he wasn't doind anything like Laettner(whom I don't like, and never have) said you earn minutes. Just ask Turkoglu if that's true. He's good, but lost playing time to JJ who is playing better for the team at the moment. Who did MJ take playing time from? Oak was injured, and didn't play much, White and Etan Thomas played but was injured for some time also , so again, who was taking up the young guys playing time.

Did not MJ tell those guys they need to take up the work load, because he wasn't going to do it?

I see you are probably saying something that you heard someone else say. I watched enough Wiz games to know that's not true.

Uhhhh... I agree with you, Stack turned out to be a very sorry addition to the team. Kwame should have worked harder, instead of complaining. Even Curry, and Chandler didn't play much at first, but they worked hard together, and started showing promise only toward the end of the season. Kwame had one good game, and then let Laettner outplay him for minutes.

Mike did not have to be in DC to run the team. Being a GM is mostly scouting and making calls. Abe Pollin questioned Mike's work ethic just because he wasn't in DC and that's laughable. Pollin just wanted Mike to pose with him in the owner's box for 41 games so it would drive interest for each game for the fans. Mike started to that at 1st, but couldn't stand watching this pitiful franchise play. There were times that he would have a tantrum in the owner's box. He didn't want to be exposed to that each home game and he knew a camera would always be aimed his way.

I don't understand how a man, that had a great 2002 draft (Dixon and Jefferies); cleared cap room by getting rid of the outrageous contracts of Howard, Richmond, and Strickland, is regarded as one of the worst GM's in the NBA. He should've gotten an opportunity to finish what he started. I guess Pollin is taking his money (82 straight home sell-out during Mike's tenure) and running.

Exactly, Jsupastar. Mvb34 is just a Jordan-*****.

Mvb34, I guess Jerry West should be fired from the Grizzlies. I mean, they didn't make the playoffs. Matter of fact, they didn't really come close to making them.

I don’t know why the Wizards think, Jordan is the worst GM in the league, I mean come on, give MJ a break, he did a good job, there are big names on the team, but nobody wants to work hard. Layden is by far the worst GM because he has to average and overpaid players in Allan Houston, and Latrell Sprewell, and he can’t get rid of the contracts, at Jordan got rid of the big contracts on the Wiz.

People are just looking for something to bash MJ for, and are trying to use him as a scapegoat because the playoff-less Wiz are still playoff-less. He helped them more than he hurt them, but they'll see when he's gone.

"I came to Washington three and a half years ago excited about the challenge of turning around this franchise. During my tenure, I dedicated myself to bringing excitement, credibility and my love of the game of basketball to Washington. It was well understood that when I finished playing, I would return as President of Basketball Operations and this was definitely my desire and intention.
