Vince is a heck of a shooter.

If he has his head in it, I could see him having a mid-late 30's Ray Allen type end to his career as a 3rd scorer/clutch shooter, on a contender.

Yeah, this is very valid... If it's 10 seconds where they can work for a drive somewhat easily, I'm taking LeBron every time, but if it's less (like a 1-2 second catch-and-shoot situation), I would take Melo, Kobe, Ray-Ray, and Arenas over him.

how about for the second half of the 4th quarter? that's where kobe really shines most of the time. if the lakers are close late into the forth, kobe caries a lot of games on his shoulders and gets the win.

As for the question, it doesn't matter how much time is on the line... you have ONE SHOT... whether it be 14 or 4 seconds... who do you want taking the shot to win/tie or lose the game?

Yeah the 82games.com clutch stats I posted tell that story -- Kobe leads in Points Per 48 in clutch situations. He also takes WAY more FG attempts in clutch situations than anyone else, which is why his percentages are right around his career numbers (higher from 3PT). He takes 39 FGAs per 48 minutes of clutch time (!) compared to #2 Wade at 32.7. Also, LeBron actually shot better from 3PT range than Kobe did this year in these situations, taking slightly less shots (8.2 to Kobe's 10.1) but converting at an astounding 42.1% to Kobe's very solid 40%.

LeBron barely leads in points in the 4th (7.7) and is followed closely by Granger (hasn't made anyone's list I don't think), and Wade. Those two guys take the most FG attempts in the 4th, followed by Kobe, who is #4 in scoring. Steve Nash shoots a ridiculous 53.9% from the field in the 4th and 41.5% from deep... he's not on anyone's list either, but the guy's made of daggers when he is in shooting mode.

In other news, my dude JR Smith is #15 in 4th quarter points and only he and Roy are in the 15 in scoring while shooting over 40% from deep... Can't wait until he's getting starter's minutes and George isn't taking him out for ****ing Anthony Carter... makes me sick. He also played the 5th most minutes in the 4th quarter, which is kinda crazy considering that he seems to get taken out for defensive purposes in the final 2 minutes. He'll be on my clutch list when he gets more chances... having he, Melo, and Billups on the floor makes it impossible to know who's taking that last shot.. agh, can't wait for next year!

Not this year...

Jackson -- 35.6% from the field, 16.7% from deep (on 7 attempts per 48), 70% from the line

Baron -- 20% FG (!), 20.8% 3PT (on 10.1 attempts per 48)

Baron definitely had better numbers last year (FG% was 49.4%), but he was just brutally bad this season.

Yeah, Melo is a monster percentage-wise. He hasn't had the attempts that Kobe, Wade, or LeBron have, but he's just astounding when he does shoot the last shot or gets into kill mode in the 4th.

Also, I just noticed that LeBron draws a foul on 24.2% of his FGAs in the 4th quarter. That absolutely destroys the other clutch leaders... Kobe's only at 11.7%, Melo's better at 16.4%, Wade's in-between. Amazing... combine that with his ability to magically never foul anyone himself and you've got yourself a great 4th quarter guy to have around.

Wow, that's surprising to me. Figured that % would be at least 40%. I am sure a lot of those numbers came from the "old selfish Kobe", instead of the new "get my teammates involved Kobe."
