they have cap room, but the thing is that they dont have enough to sign Hedo to his market value and ALSO sign Kidd to a contract comparable to what the Mavs can sign him to. If Dallas wants to keep Kidd (and all indications are that they do), then the Mavs will outbid any offer the Blazers make.
it seems every single "top" free agent is being linked to the Blazers. They cant sign all of them.
anyway, I dont think either of these teams are going to be top contenders. If Kidd's only motivation is a ring, then he would probably need to sign with the Cavs or Lakers. However, I would bet that doesnt happen either considering how limited those two teams are with their salary caps, and I dont think the Lakers want to change much after winning it all...and the Celts, Spurs, Magic, and Nuggets arent in the market for a PG obviously.
It doesnt look like Kidd is going to be able to latch on for a ring, not that he would want to. The Blazers and Mavs are both in that "second tier" of playoff teams right now with similar chances to add pieces to climb up into the first tier...and the Mavs can offer more money and also familiarity.
