    Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.

Amar'e wasn't exactly the "smartest" dude out there(in terms of BBIQ)and had all the athleticism in the world and skills weren't exactly the best when he came out either. Jus' sayin lol.

If we draft him and if he can be how K-Mart was when we had in NJ then I wouldn't be too upset at all. Of course if we draft him, he won't be starting since whoever we bring in FA will be starting instead.

Amare, even as a rook, was a thousand times more fluid than Favors. Quicker, better footwork. It's like comparing Duhwight to Shaq.

Who is this Ryan Richards kid? He has very nice form on his jumper unlike Aldrich who literally brings the ball behind his head every time. Daniel Orton looks like an overgrown Russell Westbrook.

Speaking of Orton, he cancelled his remaining 6 workouts. Rumors are saying he received a promise from the Thunder.

Never understood how those promises work. I mean, what kind of guarantee is there?

Well as far as the Warriors go, remember they are being sold soon if I'm not mistaken...They might not necessarily be an reckless/up-tempo team after the sale and potential firings/changing of the guard.

If the Warriors got Demarcus Cousins to pair with Morrow, Randolph(if he ever plays) and Stephen Curry that would be the steal of the draft for the warriors for the 2nd (arguably 3rd) year in a row.

                        Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.

                        .
The draft is a week away and the Nets are saving the best for last.
Syracuse small forward Wesley Johnson was here today. He’s one of the three players the director of player personnel Gregg Polinsky said the Nets are considering for the No. 3 pick. The other two are Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins, who will go head-to-head Monday at the Nets’ facility.
The Nets could go with either of the three and you could make a strong case for any of them.
They need a small forward, have since Richard Jefferson was traded: Wesley Johnson.
They need a power forward, have since Kenyon Martin was traded: Derrick Favors.
They need toughness and rebounding, have since Martin was traded: DeMarcus Cousins.
But can Cousins, who is more of a center, play with Brook Lopez? That’s one of the biggest questions the Nets hope to determine when they see him go mano-a-mano with Favors.
“You want to see how they compete,” Polinsky said. “Not who shoots it better with the right-handed jump hook, who shows a step-through, who has more range. But are both guys willing to go chest to chest?
“I think also from a skills standpoint, we’re trying to see the range DeMarcus Cousins has, the range Derrick has. … Which skills complement Brook Lopez to some degree. What it looks like, which guy might be able to play with a guy who is obviously one of your anchors going forward.”
Polinsky also wants to see “how they grasp the moment.” He said Johnson, who turns 23 next month, “truly understands the urgency of the situation.”
                        ***
There are other people in the Nets’ mix early, though. They like Ekpe Udoh’s length, reach, athleticism and shot-blocking ability, Greg Monroe’s overall skills and Al-Farouq Aminu’s versatility and potential. But they’re not taking any of them third. If they get any of them, that means the Nets traded down.
It’s more of a two-man race at No. 3 and Favors is the leader at this point.
                        ***
Johnson had some stomach cramps, but still impressed the Nets with his play and savvy in going one-on-none.
“I like his demeanor a lot,” Polinsky said. “I thought being – again it was a one-on-oh - he was fairly persistent with his work ethic. Even though he might have had a little stomach cramps, he got through the workout. What you got to see with him was – especially for Coach Johnson – it was realistic what his efficiency of his game [was], where you can utilize him in terms where he catches the ball, location.
“The coach starts to put in his mind how he can utilize this individual. It was a realistic picture of what Wesley Johnson will do and to some extent will be at least early on in the NBA.”
The Nets have to try and project how good he will be as compared to the ceilings on Favors and Cousins – both teenagers.
“It was kind of odd, because when you’re out there working, usually you have at least one or two people out there with you,” Johnson said. “But it was fun overall. I think I showed them my shot, ball-handling skills and a little defense, too. I think the all-around package – they had me do a little bit of everything.”
Johnson also had a good grasp of the Nets roster and, being from Texas, was a fan of the Mavericks when Avery Johnson was the coach.
Apparently, Wesley said and did all of the right things, but it still might not be enough for the Nets to take a shot at him with No. 3.
                        ***
Depending on who you speak with, the Nets have anywhere from 8-to-10-to-15 guys they’re considering for picks 27 and 31 and it could grow because someone will unexpectedly drop. Among them are Dominique Jones, Armon Johnson, Larry Sanders, Tiny Gallon, Gani Lawal, Paul George, Craig Brackens, Eric Bledsoe, Solomon Alabi, Daniel Orton.
They’re going to need a point guard since it’s likely Devin Harris will be the only one on the roster as of July 1. So Bledsoe and Armon Johnson are real possibilities.

Basically the team is saying if you are there we are taking you. Now whether they live up to their promise is another thing but in 98 or whatever draft was the Paul Pierce draft. The Sixers promised Larry Hughes they would take him if he was there and they didn't expect Pierce to drop. But since they liked Hughes anyway and promised him they decided to take him.

Yeah that would be the major issue.

I guess I'm saying they need to come to a realization that they'll never win anything with the current structure in place. I mean what is the point of running and gunning your way to a 30-40 win season every year? Sure it's fun to watch but they need to be able to defend and score in the half court to ever pose a serious title threat. I don't know if that's ever going to be possible under Nellie but i think if Cousins is still available when they are picking they would be crazy to pass him up.

I can see the knock on Bradley (tweener, SG in a PG body etc) but i think he's big enough to be a decent combo guard in the pro's and I think he has a high ceiling and could be a lock down defender, he certainly has the tools (quick, long arms, great vert etc).
