I'm no expert when it comes to the way the NBA has their salary cap structured by any means, but I don't think it's possible to do that. I think if that were possible, that it would have been mentioned in the sports media by now. It that was an option, then wow!

Also, I was wondering if it were still possible to pick up his player option to remain with the Cavs for one more season or was the deadline to do that back on July 1st? If that were possible I could see him doing that.

I still think that staying in Cleveland is a possibility for LeBron at this point but even if he does, he will sign a three year deal at most. After that deal is expired he'll be gone regardless unless something detrimental occurs elsewhere (i.e. New Jersey) or a miracle happens in Cleveland.

As of right now this is the way I have his possible destinations ranked:

    1a - Miami - 39% chance
    1b - New York - 39% chance
    2 - Cleveland - 20% chance
    3 - Chicago - 1% chance
    4 - New Jersey - 1% chance

Just curious to know what's the basis for this?

Pat Riley is a great coach. He did leave NY kind of hanging but so did Jeff Van Gundy, so I'm not sure why Riley would be despised but JVG still loved.

As for LeBron, I agree that a lot of this information is smoke screen. I think someone in LeBron's camp is laying out false info to keep people talking.

So far we've had about three hardcore sources saying he's going to such and such team. How could two of those sources be so wrong unless someone is feeding false information?
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I got no problem with Riles, and I watched almost every minute of the Knicks before during and for the next couple of years after his time here. He made us a good team, and if we would have added a legit All Star to Pat during his prime, Pat's legacy might be different. I'd even go as far as to say I'd welcome Riley back, in the right capacity.

But never mind Riles. I know it's been beaten into the ground, but if Lebron leaves Cleveland in front of everyone, it'll be one of the most scumbaggiest moves ever. I mean WOW. Dropping a 60 win team after quitting like that, and performaing a fatality on Cleveland on national television? I mean WOW! What would be the purpose of that?

I'm also going to officially be a ***** if this trio is formed. I like Wade and Bosh, but if those three join forces, I am rooting for them to lose, regardless of the matchup. Even Boston. In fact, as far as the East goes, especially Chicago and Boston.

I think New York is out of it. I don't see the situation that is as good as signing with Heat or the Cavs. I think because of the player situation and the coach. I mean Shaq could easy sign for league min. There are a ton of players out there the Heat could convince to sign for league min for the ring.

They have seen the Jordan era. They don't want to see a Kobe era in their primes....lol jk

I will not believe it is the Heat until I see it with my own eyes. Not saying he's a sure bet to be a Cavalier but I cannot imagine that he's going to take the easy way out and go on cruise control for a title. Cannot believe that until I see it, too many egos.

I think it's a ploy just to get people to watch.

Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread

I've said the entire time that the smartest move for LeBron is to team up with Wade and Bosh. He says he cares about winning, so lets see him put his money where his mouth is. However, doing it in Miami is ehhhhh. Nobody cares about Miami, they have a weak fanbase,. etc. Should have done it in New York or just gone to Chicago with Rose and Bosh.

I don't think a Miami Thrice would be bad for the NBA. But I have no idea how it will turn out for Miami. It doesn't make them an automatic championship team.

And like others, still not convinced Miami is the spot.

No, I get the point of joining the Heat. I 100% agree with you. I don't want to distract from this discussion, but I've mentioned before that I think Kobe going to the Finals 3 times in a row and still being a favorite to repeat again is one of the main motivators for these guys. If things had been spread around a little more, they would do things differently, but it's been Kobe's world for a long time, and now Wade and Bosh are nearing 30, and Lebron has officially exited the "he's young" portion of his career. They know that if they don't win multiple championships, Kobe will not be threatened by their legacies in the least. They grew up admiring him and came into the league admiring him, and even played in the Olympic admiring him, but after that 5th ring, they were like "enough is got damned enough."

Just as competitors, this is perfectly natural. I'd be shocked to my bones if those three met up and did not at least one time mention "I'm tired of seeing that mofo have parades." I also think Dwight is a motivator. Unless they load up, they know that Orlando is always one move away from being extremely hard to beat.

My question is, what's the point of doing this on TV? Why not respectfully decline the offer behind closed doors? Making Cleveland fans watch him leave on TV would be very, very cruel. If you had a camera in the homes of basketball fans in Cleveland, I bet it'd be absolutely heartbreaking to watch them react to that program. That's what I don't get. The reality of watching a native son leave is harsh enough without making a spectacle of it.

They were in losing situations and at the back end of their prime years. Different situation. Was also a trade, not an opt out.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm with you on the whole situation about the press conference. I think it stupid. But I been a LeBron fan for a long time. (Before Slam jumped on the bandwagon and then everyone else). But this is how his life has been since HS. Its not too surprising to me that it still going on.

But I would also like to add. That if he does make this move. He won't be my favorite player anymore. It use to be James then Paul Peirce....Now its Paul and then Durant...It might be a sad day in Cleveland.
