I honestly think if he had the press conference and kept beating the idea home that he loves Cleveland and was genuine that they wouldn't have all reacted the way they did.

He just looked smug when he made the announcement...
To sort of stick with that, he had like this little smirk on his face when he said "this is really hard" and he said it in a way like, he just threw it in there so he could fall back on saying when the backlash came about 'it was so hard for me to make that decision' or something, but I don't think he really expected the backlash to be exactly what it was.

WADSWORTH, Ohio - Just a few days ago, Vaneisha Robinson believed her dreams were about to come true. As NewsChannel5 and newsnet5.com first reported, Robinson paid $5 for a pendant in the shape of LeBron

Robinson thought it was costume jewelry until she had it appraised and certified by International Gemological Institute, which said the diamond-studded, gold jewelry was real and valued at nearly $10,000.

The amateur boxer put the pendant up for sale on eBay, hoping to use the proceeds to open her own gym.

On Wednesday, Robinson said she got a phone call that turned her dream into a nightmare. Robinson said it was Katherine L. Powers, the mother of Maverick O. Carter. Carter is the CEO of LeBron James' marketing company, LRMR.

"[Powers] said that LeBron James was at her house and they wanted me to come over there. They were going to make me an offer that I couldn't refuse," Robinson said.

It turned out the one-of-a-kind pendant belongs to Carter, who claims it was stolen. Robinson said she and her mother went to the Wadsworth house Carter shares with his mother, believing James was going to buy the pendant and give it back to Carter.

"When I got there, LeBron James was not there. It was about eight or nine other people there," Robinson said. "They pretty much accused me, they threatened me and they used their authority to they (sic) best ability to get the pendant in their possession."

Robinson said she and her mother drove to Carter's house in the 500 block of Caledonia Drive in her mother's pickup truck.

"They blocked her truck in the driveway. They told us that we weren't going anywhere until they got that pendant. I was scared for my life," she said.

Wadsworth police said they were called around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night by a woman visiting a neighbor of Powers. According to a recording of the 911 call, the woman heard loud arguing. She said she called the police at Powers’s request.

"I walked away from that. I just kept walking just in case something was about to happen," the woman told the 911 dispatcher.

A Wadsworth police spokesperson said Robinson and her mother had already left when they arrived on scene. Powers was the only one there. She had the pendant.

"Ms. Powers showed me the pendant in question and I was able to determine that it was a one-of-a-kind item and it did actually belong to Mr. Carter," said Sgt. James Elchlinger.

Elchlinger said Carter was not at the house during the incident. A receptionist at LRMR told NewsChannel5 Thursday that Carter was unavailable for comment. Powers was not home when a reporter stopped at the house seeking an interview.
      The case is under investigation.

Robinson did not call police Wednesday night, but showed up at the station Thursday afternoon. Robinson said she was advised to get a lawyer.
Police are trying to determine if the pendant was ever reported stolen. But Robinson maintains she could not have had the jewelry certified by the I.G.S. if it were stolen property.

The boxer vowed her next fight will be in a court of law.
"There was no serial number on that pendant so it's untraceable," Robinson said. "That pendant is mine. It belongs to me. I want it back."

Wow about that story. Because when I first saw that story the other day. I thought to myself. "Why the hell would someone just have that in their junk sale?" And this girl just happen to find and buy for 5 dollars. I thought the story was weird. But now reading that thats just wild. I don't think there much she can do. But I do think Carter should have given her a little money for her troubles. But this girl is stupid if she thinks she getting it back now...lol

I also just saw this article on yahoo talking about the story. lol

I'm not sure it's on SI.com (I haven't read it) but it's in the latest SI that has the cover of the 3 of them that was being discussed earlier (I think in this thread).

I agree. Gilbert wouldn't have publicly reacted the way he did either bc the mob wouldn't have been behind him, but I think Gilbert was answering what would've been needed for HIM to be ok with James, so I can see that. I do want to read the whole article.

He looked extremely uncomfortable during "The Decision" I felt like when the moment actually came he began to realize how horrible of a decision it was (to have the big event, not a bad decision to go to Miami). Even since then he's looked really uncomfortable including during their big party. He had no idea what he was getting himself into handling this the way he did.

I saw an article on this (didn't bother reading it). The pendant looks like a basketball jersey with "King" where the team name would be and the number 23... covered in jewels. It would have to be someone pretty stupid to not realize it was somehow related to LBJ, even if it were a fake. I kind of feel like this woman is right if she can prove she got it at a yard sale, but that's very, very hard to believe. They still didn't have any right creating a scene out of American Gangsta to get it back.

But it really must be Carter's jewlery. Because if the cop was able to "ID" it as a one of kind item. Which means it must have Carters name or something on it. But the part about them being held against their will is a totally different thing. Someone might go to jail for this one.

The part that was funny to me was that girl never reported it until thursday. Instead of reporting it as soon as they got out of there on Wed lol

I don't know how people see him "smirking"....That was the first interview of LeBron's career where I could totally see he was uncomfortable speaking. And that is rare for him.

I think what will be even more telling though, is if Carter never reported it stolen. The law doesn't work like...'well I had the money to pay for something like that so it must be mine when I say it was stolen.' If he didn't file a police report saying that the item was stolen then whatever happens to the thing is outta his hands and it especially don't look good that they call the girl to come to the house, block her in the driveway and not let her leave until they get the pendant and neither he nor James are anywhere in the building. Not a good look at all.

Yeah, I'm on her side IF a)she can prove she got it at a yard sale (and then the police should be after whoever had the yard sale), b)there's nothing else to indicate it's owner AND c)it was never reported stolen.

But even if she's completely wrong, they should still be catching it too for taking the law into their hands like OJ when he tried to get his stuff back.

Yeah, I kind of got that same feeling. That whole thing was really awkward. Like when he was about to announce it, I felt awkward for him. The best was when the whole place was in complete silence afterwards, and he really didn't know what to do. LOL.

I can't remember it too much but I got more "uncomfortable" than "smirking" too. In fact I remember making note that he didn't seem to smile once... this was the biggest moment of his life to date and he's someone that smiles ALL THE TIME. He knew it wasn't right... just took too long to realize it.
