Well, I was referring to a commentator calling him the GOAT the year after he won his first championship during a game...so it must have been around in some capacity...happened more than once

I'm just wondering if anyone took exception to it back then, if it was headline worthy...

Like I said, the scale of it is greater now because of the internet, but yes people took exception to it. They took exception to talking about how great he was before he won a ring as a well. He got knocked/criticized about not being able to win one before he finally broke through as well. LeBron, Durant, Kobe, Melo these dudes aren't going through anything new really. Only thing different is on top of the media that does it, they get to know about every dude that was confined to his local bar, barber shop and water cooler doing the same thing back then that have Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and all this other stuff now.

Id say this... the same media that knocks the guys today also gives them publicity and makes it easier for them to cash in checks they dont even have to earn. That wasnt the case back then because the focus wasnt on as much money as it is now.

I think we can all agree that in terms of pure Athleticism Lebron is the greatest ever. We have never seen anything like him.

              What exactly is "pure athleticism"?

That there hasn't been anyone that has his combination of speed and strength that has ever played this game except for maybe Wilt Chamberlain.

                1A) Lebron
                1B) Wilt

That's it. Maybe Shaq can worm his way into the conversation but he just quite didn't have that raw speed.

Im not sure thats true though...there are plenty of guys out there like him, they might not be seen or just play other sports like in the NFL

Even Bill Russell had a pretty good combo of all of that, and that was without all the weights and medicines and such.

Ah. I thought we were just talking about Basketball? If we were doing every sport then it would be Olympians with multiple gold medals (such as sprinting, long distance, long jump, and that event where you jump over the bar), Tri-Athletes, and then professional sport athletes.

As far as the Russell argument I thought it was generally agreed Wilt > Russell physically?

Yeah thats why I mentioned Bill Russell for example, as well as weights and supps.

There's never been a player with that sheer athletic combination who has the skills and talent LeBron does... It's like Barkley said, Jordan was a basketball proto-type.. 6'6" 220, could out run, out jump, and out play everybody. He was the example of a "perfect" basketball player.. Now LeBron comes along and he's the same, except he's 6'8 260..

BTW, not saying their talents or talent level is the same. I'm not attempting to jump into that argument.

Ok well who else in league history then? Better than picking a guy from the 60's/70's who could use steroids without any repercussions..

What's wrong with using weights anyways? Nobody said anything about this being naturally god given.. Every player that's came through the league has had weights, training, and anything to give them the advantage over the average joe..

What does him having weights and whatever else he takes have to do with him being good at basketball and an athletic freak? Is everyone in the league now at his level? No.. Do they all not have access to the same weights/whatever else he has??

What are you implying then? Wilt? Yeah he was strong as ****, he was an athletic freak.. Was he also shooting 3's and guarding point guards?

All I'm saying is, from what I've saw, Jordan and LeBron are the two most complete players I've ever watched.. Both skillfully and athletically.. LeBron just happens to be a little bigger than Jordan.. Not saying that makes him better, or gives him any kind of advantage over him, just saying is all.
