I don't think the Magic should trade him either way. I don't think a Brook Lopez and others deal helps much. For one, Lopez is a Center that gets less than 4 rpg. No thanks. Plus, he's a free agent after next year, and so is Bynum. I'd rather take my chances, and make Dwight leave money on the table and look like the bad guy and leave. If he does, then you have cap space and you rebuild. If he doesn't leave, then you're a contender in the east for years.

Just think if the Magic hadn't done that knee jerk trade in 2010. They wouldn't be stuck with Hedo, and they'd have still had a valuable trade piece in Gortat and probably been able to get Ellis from the Warriors.
Is this true?? I could have sworn I read that Orlando will have a ton of cap space and money in the summer??

No, that's the 2013 FA season.

After this year, unless they make some moves, they are pretty handicapped.

And Ryan Anderson will be a free agent. Stretch 4 they absolutely need.

Restricted though. If he were to leave, they still have Big Baby, and Hedo could play the 4 if need be. They'll make some kind of deal this summer, I think. But a straight signing of a max deal guy can't happen.

Letting Dwight go via free agency isn't going to get them draft picks. It's going to get them exactly what Cleveland got, which was nothing. The only reason the Cavs got "a couple top picks" was because the Clippers were stupid and so desperate to part with Baron Davis that they threw in an unprotected 1st rounder.
i understand the thought. i don't mean get a couple picks right away. i mean IMO, they should just let Dwight go and suck for a couple years and use their own draft picks to rebuild. if Dwight gets traded for some other team's draft picks, those picks value goes down as soon as Dwight steps onto the court for them no?

the way Denver went about it, got plenty of young talent for Carmelo, and now they have a good team... but i'm not sure anyone thinks this team is gonna win anything?

IMO it is better to just let him walk, take the hit for a couple years and rebuild. i think if you get several talented players for him you're gonna wind up in the borderline playoff/lottery area and... well thats just not what i would want my team to do

This is probably just some BS ploy to get people to pony up more now. To say "well, if you don't trade for him now, you're not gonna have a shot for 1.5 years"

                          UPDATE 5:55 p.m. from TNT’s David Aldridge:
The Orlando Magic, unsure about the intentions of franchise player Dwight Howard-who told teammates Wednesday morning he planned to “opt in” and play the final year of his contract–have told Howard he has to get that paperwork into the NBA office by the end of the day, according toba source. Otherwise, the Magic will proceed with potential trade discussions before Thursday’s 3 p.m. deadline.
Howard, who has long been expected to opt out of the last year (2012-13) of his deal and become a free agent at season’s end, said after Tuesday’s game with Miami that he wanted to stay with the Magic through the end of the season. It was the first time that Howard-who asked to be traded during training camp- had expressed any desire to stay in Orlando, which has been trying for weeks to convince him to stay.
The request was a “complete surprise” to the Magic, according to a league source. So was Wednesday’s declaration.
But Orlando is not convinced Howard genuinely wants to stay.
The Magic have asked Howard for months to commit just to playing next year. His sudden acquiescence, a day before the trade deadline, is being viewed skeptically by the Magic-hence the demand that both Howard and agent Dan Fegan sign by Wednesday evening. The Magic “can’t roll the dice,” the league source said.

I swear this is just ruining the NBA. I never experienced such thing like this. Howard goes, Howard stays... You know what, I actually used to like this dude... but now, he's just another spoiled superstar.
Hope is lost. Faith is broken. A fire will rise.

This isn't intended to incite anything...I legitimately want your opinion on this. Just to pick your brain a bit.

Were you okay with Kobe's flip-flopping and attitude from Game 7 in 2006 through the Pau Gasol trade and did that or has that changed your opinion on him whatsoever?
