I wasn't at all, but then again... I was 16 at the time I believe, didn't care much for NBA at that time really, but I remember being pissed with Kobe. And I'm pretty sure a lot of Lakers fans will always remember that. The fact is... every superstar that goes into free agency just loves to put on a show and wait until the bell rings so they can make a decision, it's just pathetic, Melo, LeBron, Howard... who's next? Durant? Hell no lol

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?
Hypothetically, if Dwight -does- sign and opt in for the last year of his contract, what exactly does that change? Everything he has said, done, looks like a burning of bridges to me. I mean, obviously he'll drop a "Orlando is always where I've wanted to be, that has never changed, I'm happy I'll be here another year we have something special with 'our guys' here in the locker room" quote, but does it even matter? Why would Orlando fans be happy with that outcome? Is it the hope that somewhere down the line in the next 1.5 years that a player comes along and provides them with that "extra something" to put them over the top? Their cap situation won't change much next year, so I guess the hope is someone wants to swap them a sidekick for Dwight? For what? Ryan Anderson (a piece that has always been integral in ORL's offense - stretch the floor 4). I guess the best thing is that... you get Dwight for the rest of the year, and next year, then he can become a free agent at the same time the team gains -some- cap flexibility but not an overwhelming amount.
Just having a hard time understanding why him extending another year changes things. I don't see a way the roster can really improve.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

Just sign the damn papers, Duhwight.
Because now I'm at the point where his constant flip flopping is really annoying me now.#RespectTheCultureComment

Feels like Orlando called Dwight on the bluff to me.
"oh... You need me to sign it? Right... Yeah... Well I'm eating some pizza right now so... "

Paul Kennedy reports on @FSMagic that Dwight has had another change of heart and will not sign the opt-in clause. #MagicComment

There was no bluff because the "rumor" was bogus to begin with.Comment

OK we agree to disagree. Actually.
In a Wednesday night conference call with Orlando Magic officials before the team's game in San Antonio, Dwight Howard told the Magic that he is not prepared to surrender the option to become a free agent at season's end, according to sources with knowledge of the discussion.
After numerous reports earlier Wednesday indicating that Howard had agreed to waive his early termination option and lock himself into the final season of his current contract with the Magic, sources said that Howard and agent Dan Fegan clarified their position in the conference call with Magic CEO Alex Martins, owner Rich De Vos and other members of the De Vos' family.
During the call, sources said, Howard told the Magic that staying in Orlando is his first choice. But he also made it clear that he was not prepared to relinquish the ETO in his contract that allows him to become a free agent.
"It's unheard of for a player of Dwight's caliber to do so," one source close to the situation told ESPN.com.
When asked why Howard told several teammates and members of the organization earlier in the day that he had indeed decided not to opt out of his contract, the source insisted that Howard "didn't fully understand the ramifications" of surrendering his ETO and did so largely because Magic officials warned him that he would be traded by Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline if he did not take that step.
The Magic, meanwhile, continued throughout the day to field calls from teams interested in trading for Howard -- starting with the New Jersey Nets -- because the earlier verbal pledges from Howard to waive his ETO would not have become binding unless both he and Fegan formally signed a waiver.Last edited by Drewski; 03-14-2012, 08:28 PM.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?
So is Dwight this horribly indecisive or is he just setting Orlando up to be the ones that have to make the decision so if he's traded he can tell the people in Orlando that he wanted to stay but the team got impatient or some BS?NFL: Bills

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?
Here's what I think is going down. I think Dwight is happy in Orlando. I think he likes the city and the team, and is open to staying there. I truly believe that it's probably his first choice. But I think someone, probably his agent, is pushing him to go to a bigger market. Does anyone really think that a Dwight-Williams marriage in Brooklyn is significantly more likely to make a run than a Dwight-Paul marriage in Orlando? I think Dwight is genuinely torn. I think a big part of him wants to stay with the Magic, but I think somebody is trying to convince him he needs to be in a big city. And I think he's starting to come to the realization that he might want to stay in Orlando, and if he's traded, that option is gone.
If I'm the Magic, I still say keep him. Is he going to leave money on the table to go somewhere else? Maybe. But if you have any chance at all to keep a superstar like that, I think you do it. And as far as burning bridges, I don't think he has. The owner still loves him. If he stays, the fans will still love him. It's not like he's been tanking this year. He has a career high in rebounds.
And there is one other factor, that's big, imo. This team is pretty good. They're the 3-seed right now in the east. And they're 2-1 this season against the Heat, and 1-1 against the Bulls. I don't think it's completely inconceivable that they could make a deep playoff run. If they trade Dwight (unless it's for Melo/Chandler) they likely become a first-round exit type of team. Even if Dwight leaves after this season, if you have a shot at a deep playoff run, or even a title, I think you need to do it.Comment

What makes you think CP3 would leave LA to go to Orlando when his whole trade issue was about going to a BIGGER market?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?
I'm sick of hearing that Dwight doesn't have anything around him. Yeah, his supporting cast isnt "ideal", but outside of what, 3 or 4 teams, which team has an "ideal" cast?
Whatever happened to ****ing fighting for a title the old fashioned way? Growing as a team and winning? These young guys don't get it.
If Dwight stays and then does terribly in the playoffs, that's going to be awful.
They're in a good position to make a deep run in the playoffs. Good. Go out there and DO it.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 03-14-2012, 09:42 PM.Comment
