Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

The fact that people are criticizing him for WANTING to be a closer is confusing to me.

Especially since guys - specifically LeBron - get destroyed by media and fans for "deferring to Batman."

    Hey, just my thought though.

But I also agree with Dice. He wants to be a closer.....gonna have to do alot better than just hitting half of your FTs my man. On top of the fact that he ain't Young Shaq either.
I think the part I quoted is THAT bad. First he basically says I don't care if I miss every shot, give me the ball. Well Dwight, no, I will not continue forcing you the ball for you to miss every shot... sorry. Your lack of post game and ability to hit FTs is likely why you aren't being fed the ball more now so saying "Just give me the ball even if I'm going to miss every shot" is not going to fly.

Following that up with, "That's why they call me Superman." just makes the part before that so much worse.

Got no problem with him wanting to be the closer, and he probably could've come from a better angle that would've been legit and spoke better to his case. But what he said there... nah, can't get behind that. That crap should've never came out of his mouth.

Some people feel he's forfeited the right to comment on anything team related because he requested a trade....

I can't imagine anyone having an issue with the actual quote...besides the Superman thing...

I think wwharton just summed up the problem with the actual quote pretty well.

I don't think anyone has a problem with him commenting, regardless of his state with the team. If they just shut the mic off before that last bit I think it'd actually be a great public interview for a new job.

Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

Still don't see how that's the worst thing anybody has ever heard from an NBA player's mouth. Especially considering the other crap that's been said throughout the years from other players(Sprewell's $17 Mil comment and Kobe's "****ing ship his *** out" comment comes to mind)

Other than the Superman part(from reading and not actually hearing it, it's coming off kinda 3rd person-ish and unless you're The Rock, you can't pull this off successfully with the public)the actual quote ain't that bad and I guarantee Duhwight is the not the first person to say something like that either.

My take on it(paying no mind to the Superman mess)is that he says he wants to be a closer but yet he's not doing the things necessary to be a closer, mainly making his FTs. I can deal with the whole lacking of a post game part because at this point, I'm not expecting him to improve in that aspect no time soon, but at the very least he NEEDS to do better than 50% from the FT line. He takes care of that, it at least makes his comment a bit easier to stomach than it does now.

Don't think anybody said it was the worst comment ever though. wwharton said it was the worst he'd heard in a while and worse than LeBron which I don't agree with considering the 'spoil people with my play' and 'I lost, but I'm still rich tomorrow and you're still poor' gems that he hit us with over the last few years.

I'm one of those guys who think he's forefitted his rights to say some of the stuff he's said publically during this whole thing. I just don't think it's a good look when you pubilically come out and basically say everybody on your team and the management is garbage and then start talking about those same guys needing to have faith/confidence in you and you being a leader and all this other stuff. I know a lot of people don't agree with that, but that's how I feel on it.

Definitely not the worse thing ever said, but I think it's worse than anything LBJ has said because it's a combination of displaying the huge ego with a false sense of his current worth/role. James has said some stupid things, but I don't think he's said anything that misrepresents his game at this point (unless you count the championship speech but I just look at that as something to make fun of him for... not to be taken seriously anyway). To literally say I might miss every shot but you should keep giving me the ball is idiotic. He probably meant it differently but when it's also likely tied to why he doesn't get the ball more in those situations just looks even dumber... and then the Superman comment on top of that?

I'll also add that I like D12 and have just been ignoring most of the talk around him right now, especially since he hadn't been saying much until recently. Now that he's speaking, THIS is what he has to say? That's why people call me superman when I named myself that and stole it from someone else anyway? They do it because I'm supposed to be the closer when anyone with any basketball sense can tell why I don't get the ball in those situations?

                      Meh, I guess.

I still don't think it's worse than Bron's "I spoil people with my play" comments and then the classic line he dropped right after last year's Finals but that's another issue for another day.

"I’m the leader of the team. Ride my back. I’ll lead. I don’t care if I miss every single shot, I’m going to continue to play hard. Just get on my back.
I just hope there is a video out there because that's alot easier to judge than reading the comments itself.

I'll give you that... both of these. I'm sure his choice of words was worse than what he meant, even though the thought in his head is still an issue... it probably isn't AS big of an issue as I'm suggesting.

Dwight's career 1:00 < to take the lead or tie. Unfortunately they don't have FT stats included as of yet. =(

My guess is all of those shots are on offensive rebounds or someone driving and dishing for an easy dunk. Even if we ignore his average post game, if he catches the ball with that amount of time left and has to make a move they're running him over with a garbage truck to get him to the foul line.

Agree he's getting the Shaq treatment made me very sad that FT stats aren't in. Course Shaq was a monster to stop down low if he caught it so And 1 was always at stake.
