Oh I remember Zo well. He put the Charlotte Hornets on the map. Ive watched many a Zo game here , even every game againsd MIA was a big deal once he left. He may have had the range your speaking of, but it wasn't a consistent weapon. His 15 footer was definitely a part of his game, but it wasn't really money.

He didn't get that career .500 plus percentage shooting J's, it was mostly put backs, finishes, shots at the rim. I know durability was an issue, but even with that skill he never averaged over 23 ppg....

You said their skills were comparable. Zo didn't have to be consistent for that to be a laughable comparison when looking at jump shooting alone. Zo had more post moves also. What Zo was not is a freak of a man child like Howard is, but definitely more skilled... no question.

You know who I think would be a good fit for the Magic? Gerald Wallace. If they can't keep Deron Williams, maybe the Nets would be willing to unload him. He's still perfectly capable of scoring 15 a game, getting 6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a couple steals, and a block. His weakness is the 3 pointer, but with all those shooters, Orlando needs a guy who can create, plus he gives them a very good perimeter defender. Maybe a package of Hedo, Anderson, and a draft pick could do it. The Nets may be one of the few teams that could handle taking on Hedo; they only have about $3 million spent on players for the 13-14 season, so they could probably afford to buy out Hedo's option. Too bad they used their amnesty on Outlaw.

Gerald Wallace would be a good fit for just about every team I think.

Zo had "post moves" like Howard has "post moves" nothing that's going to eat you alive all game and force a consistent double....again, all these skills and his highest clip was 23 ppg? laughable comparison? Naw, I think that's a little bit of that 90s glory clouding vision here..

And this isn't downing Zo, but we're overrating his skill set a little here...I do agree he has a "broader" skill set I guess, but it doesn't equate to Dwights overall talent IMO.

Like sure Chauncey Billups can create, has range, can post up All these things he does better than a lot of players at the 1. So I'd agree he he has a broader "skill set" than a lot of PGs, but are there some PGs who can't do all these things I'd take before him? Yes.

It has nothing to do with 90's glory. For some reason you're comparing Zo the player to Dwight the player. Who is more "skilled"? It's Zo... and there isn't a question about it. If Howard had the "skills" that Zo had, he'd be on his way to the HOF.

Zo was about 6'10" playing in an era when centers in the NBA were still special, and still made a name for himself. If the majority of his game leaned on athleticism like Howard's does, he wouldn't have been more than a role player.

Dwight Howard has turned himself into the first Famous for Being Famous NBA player. This is not to take away from his considerable skill and the impact he makes on the court, but to truly analyze Howard's intentions and desires, it's useful to look at him through the lens of the Famous for Being Famous celebrity. We usually despise and mock the Kardashians, Paris Hiltons, and Courtney Stoddens of the moment because of the way they integrate their own megalomania with innovative, shameless self-promotion. By 'choosing to stay' in Orlando until the end of the 2013 season, Howard strategically positioned himself to be a talked-about item for the next year. Brett Favre pulled a similar trick in Green Bay. And then did it again in New York and Minnesota. It's easy to forgive athletes and attribute their actions to different intentions, but we should always remember that they are public figures, who, like all celebrities, make money by staying in the spotlight. The Famous for Being Famous athlete does not care about his team, the local community, the future of the franchise, or especially his teammates because the only thing he cares about winning is the current 24-hour news cycle … forever. Dwight Howard might not be quite there yet, but he's getting there.

It looked like everything was behind them, for at least another year. When Dwight Howard waived his early termination option, it finally appeared the Magic could go play some basketball completely distraction free.

Nope. According to WKMG Local 6 Sports Director Dave Pingalore, Howard wants Stan Van Gundy fired.

Pingalore's Magic sources confirm that Howard continues to convey to team owners that he wants a change in the coaching staff.
There was an ESPN.com report before the trade deadline that Howard told the Magic to fire Van Gundy. Both parties denied that rumor.
But as one league source told Pingalore, firing Van Gundy will not come as a surprise to people that work in the NBA and that it would come from the direction of Howard.
The league source did say this is pretty much a done deal based on Howard's demands, and the Magic are already putting pieces together to make a decision after the season.
However, one Magic player who did not want his named used said that there is still is a possibility that Van Gundy could return.
“(I) do not think Stan leaving is a done deal yet,” said the player.

If you recall, this isn't the first time this has come up and Van Gundy explicity and very humorously said he doesn't care about being fired. He said then it's the process of being fired that's bad because that normally includes a lot of losing. So if he were fired over something like this, he wouldn't care.

Van Gundy has never had an issue holding back his thoughts which is maybe one reason the team, including Howard, reportedly want a change. He hammers on players. There was even a report last season that Van Gundy agreed to tone it down a little bit at Howard's request.

But as was the case with the Howard trade saga, the Magic need to do some housekeeping. They have way too many leaks, way too many holes in their ship. Too many people talk. They need to keep this stuff in house, in private and handle it outside of media reports. Because now, Van Gundy is going to be asked about this, he'll talk about it and round and round it goes.

The Magic were granted a reprieve from the governor with Howard. And now both he, and the team, need to take advantage of that and just shut up and play ball.

**** this guy, man. Same goes for the Magic as an organization. Why not just name Dwight GM as well at this point? Stan builds the entire offense around Dwight, makes them one of the top teams in the East and the entire league, gets them to a Finals appearance and multiple good runs in the playoffs, and now Dwight is throwing him under the bus? What a damn clown.

And really, who are they going to hire to replace Stan? D'antoni? Sorry Dwight but [Pitino] PHIL JACKSON IS NOT WALKING THROUGH THAT DOOR. [/Pitino]
