That is fine, but we never waited. We've had dudes say his buddy will be here in 5 minutes so hold on, we said nope, next in line is up now.

Then we had some elitists who didn't want to play with dude if he didn't think the talent was there. That is wrong. If the man has been waiting for his run then it is his if he wants it. On the other hand, if you ain't up to snuff it may not be a pleasant game for you. We didn't treat anyone with kid gloves on some days. But we tried to never force the issue. If there were 5 guys in line but 4 of them didn't want the 5th and it seemed like it could be an issue, usually one from the winning team would go ahead and take a breather game and the 5th would join the winning squad. Maybe that is noble, but it added to the trash talk and that was great.

On calling fouls where I played, it was almost always offense calls. When there was disagreement and it slowed the game down, the 2 guys would check up and go 1v1. The offensive guy had one chance to get a bucket, and we were serious about the time. None of this dribbling display behind the line, make your move and try to score. We had the pathological foul callers, but this usually exposed them. You can't call phantom fouls when everyone's eyes are on you and watching for fouls.
Just curious, where do you play?

Right now I live just outside of Beaumont, Texas. This was from a park down here.

When I lived in Baltimore I played in a rec center in Curtis Bay. If you're familiar with that area, there is a soccer pavilion across from the elementary school. Behind that there is (or was, when I moved they looked to be tearing most of it down) a patch of woods. On the other side of the woods is a large community center with playground, pool, courts, and multiple baseball fields. I can't remember the name of it.

I haven't been playing much for the past 2 years though. Only played once when I was in PG county (at UMD campus).

Ahh, didn't know you were in Texas now. I know of Curtis Bay but don't know the area too well.

I was just curious though, I don't play outside too much anymore (many of the posts in this thread contribute to that lol, but my knees help with that decision too). I still get the itch when the weather gets nice though.

Yeah, in Brooklyn... I'm a bit north of the city (pretty much on the border) so I don't venture that far too often.

I'm starting to know the feeling, especially now that I'm inching closer to the Big 3-0.

I'll be tempted to run some ball outside, my I know my knees(mainly my right one)will not be feeling very good right after so I stick to indoor ball.

I have avoided out door ball for awhile now. Always destroyed my knees and heels which I'm pretty sure I have tendinitis in.. Also there was never any decent outdoor competition around this area anyways.

I'm 31 and played outdoors more than indoors and yeah, the next day the soreness from playing indoors doesn't not compare to the agony of playing outside.

Still though, I always felt like the runs were better on outdoor courts.

I'm 32 but still waiting on the day when I can't handle outdoor courts anymore. If all these other posts are any indication, I'm due for an asphalt-related breakdown soon. But for now, as long as my ankles are attached (never a guarantee), I don't notice much difference between the two surfaces in terms of body impact.

I can't quite remember, but aren't you a dunker? If so I'm surprised your knees aren't feeling it already.

Yep, I've been pretty fortunate with the knees so far, though I know it's likely just a matter of time. I can feel aches in areas that I've catastrophically injured previously (my ankles) and my body's quicker to feel a good workout (lactic acid build-up over a three-day stretch of heavy play seems greater than before) but yeah, I'm thankful to have made it to this age without random knee aches. If they kick in tomorrow, at least I made it to 32, haha.

I'm over the big 4-0 so all of you have a little time to go. I've had a knee go out just slightly bending to go UP for a jump shot... need to make sure I'm holding onto something whenever I walk up and down steps a day after playing. These things happens playing indoors, so staying away from outdoor courts is just saving myself from myself.

Oh Lawd, I SO know those feels.

I'm turnin' 50 in three weeks. For me, it's all about limiting the pounding the knees and ankles take per session. And that means, usually, no more than 3 games.

My wind is still great, I can easily go 5, 6 or 7 games - but the price I pay on my knees and ankles for the next two days is just not worth it.

                            Sad Chairman is Sad.

IMO, if you want to play multiple times a week,(I play 4 times a week) 35 is the magical age where the recovery time from playing outside starts getting to be too much, especially if you're a leaper and a slasher.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I stopped playing outside when I was 27 I believe. My back and knees were so shot. Playing an hour and a half outside felt like I'd played for six hours on an indoor court.
