Re: The worst pick up players.
Right now I live just outside of Beaumont, Texas. This was from a park down here.
When I lived in Baltimore I played in a rec center in Curtis Bay. If you're familiar with that area, there is a soccer pavilion across from the elementary school. Behind that there is (or was, when I moved they looked to be tearing most of it down) a patch of woods. On the other side of the woods is a large community center with playground, pool, courts, and multiple baseball fields. I can't remember the name of it.
I haven't been playing much for the past 2 years though. Only played once when I was in PG county (at UMD campus).Comment

I was just curious though, I don't play outside too much anymore (many of the posts in this thread contribute to that lol, but my knees help with that decision too). I still get the itch when the weather gets nice though.Comment

Ahh, didn't know you were in Texas now. I know of Curtis Bay but don't know the area too well.

I'll be tempted to run some ball outside, my I know my knees(mainly my right one)will not be feeling very good right after so I stick to indoor ball.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: The worst pick up players.
I have avoided out door ball for awhile now. Always destroyed my knees and heels which I'm pretty sure I have tendinitis in.. Also there was never any decent outdoor competition around this area anyways.

Still though, I always felt like the runs were better on outdoor courts.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
I'm 32 but still waiting on the day when I can't handle outdoor courts anymore. If all these other posts are any indication, I'm due for an asphalt-related breakdown soon. But for now, as long as my ankles are attached (never a guarantee), I don't notice much difference between the two surfaces in terms of body impact.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Yep, I've been pretty fortunate with the knees so far, though I know it's likely just a matter of time. I can feel aches in areas that I've catastrophically injured previously (my ankles) and my body's quicker to feel a good workout (lactic acid build-up over a three-day stretch of heavy play seems greater than before) but yeah, I'm thankful to have made it to this age without random knee aches. If they kick in tomorrow, at least I made it to 32, haha.Last edited by VDusen04; 03-17-2016, 01:28 AM.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Oh Lawd, I SO know those feels.
I'm turnin' 50 in three weeks. For me, it's all about limiting the pounding the knees and ankles take per session. And that means, usually, no more than 3 games.
My wind is still great, I can easily go 5, 6 or 7 games - but the price I pay on my knees and ankles for the next two days is just not worth it.
Sad Chairman is Sad.
I'm over the big 4-0 so all of you have a little time to go. I've had a knee go out just slightly bending to go UP for a jump shot... need to make sure I'm holding onto something whenever I walk up and down steps a day after playing. These things happens playing indoors, so staying away from outdoor courts is just saving myself from myself.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
IMO, if you want to play multiple times a week,(I play 4 times a week) 35 is the magical age where the recovery time from playing outside starts getting to be too much, especially if you're a leaper and a slasher.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
I stopped playing outside when I was 27 I believe. My back and knees were so shot. Playing an hour and a half outside felt like I'd played for six hours on an indoor court."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
