A little bit surprising considering he's coming off of KNEE surgery, but we'll see what happens.

If his quotes are anything to go by, he's just about outta here.

I'll miss his big games, but I won't miss him holding the ball for 15 seconds, resetting in the post and all that while everyone else stands around and watches. We can now use the clout to re-sign Carl Landry and throw some cheddar at a wing like Nick Young, Arron Afflalo, JR Smith. Or even Wilson Chandler if we're feeling like taking a long shot in the dark.

I didn't know West had a relatively modest contract at $8m/yr.

HH has his player option as being less than he made this past season, down to $7.5m. Is that a typo? If true no wonder he's going to opt out, he doesn't want to take a pay cut. It'll be interesting to see what team overpays for him.

He had a descending, front loaded contract way back when. Quite a smart move on the last regime's part.

But overpaying him wouldn't be anything but a transparent attempt to appease CP3. Time to move on. Maybe from both of them. But we damn well better not let CP3 walk if it comes to that.

From the quotes and everything I have read, these are not the things you want a player to say about your franchise if your star PG's contract is up. *IE, David West just wants to win.*

Meh everyone wants to win, but only 1 team out of 30 wins it all each year. We prolly would have beat the Lakers imo if he wasn't hurt and who knows after that

Definitely not want you want to hear - but I think it's what we all deep down know is true. CP3 was crazy to sign the contract he did with NO to begin with. He's been positioning to get himself out of there too - he had the same things coming out of his camp that Melo did, more or less. I don't think NO has even a remote chance to re-sign CP3, and David West surely knows that as well. Time for reconstruct that team, they can't let CP3 walk without getting youth talent and cap flexibility. But we have a whole year an dlockout to talk about that. Not surprised D. West is leaving, wont be surprised when he gets over paid.

I don't think he'll be over paid, he's just coming off an injury.

West if he leaves it shouldn't be for money. I really don't see how everything consider he'll make more money some where else. I know Paul really respects West, but he cares more about winning. If we can re-sign Laundry, invest what would have been West's deal and sign a better off guard and center, find a way to ship Okafor bad contract we're in great position to contend not just this year, but the next 5 years. It's a lot, but very tangible goals.

It's bitter sweet, but I think moving on from West may be a blessing in disguise.

Maybe, we'll see. It'll be hard to replace his consistency on offense especially with the pick and roll. However I suppose if Carl Landry resigns, which I think he prolly will now given the possible situation which may not be bad with the explosiveness we saw from him in the Lakers series with getting to the rim

Landry is a solid guy at the pf without west. I just don't see NO being able to retain CP with or without West, he was already Carmello-ing NO early in the year. This does provide some cap flexibility, but Wests contract was modest compared to most

I have the utmost respect for West and what he's meant to this team, BUT he is 31 and we don't know if he'll every get back to 100%. I rather not get into a bidding war with another franchise. There's some free agents I feel can really feel some needs for us. If we can move Emeka's contract I think we're in great shape.

The CBA has yet to be signed so I wouldn't lay odds just yet.

Like I said we are 2 FA signings and a big trade away from being one of the better teams in the West. Which is do-able. The new CBA will make it very difficult for 3 guys to come together like the Heat or even the Celtics. I will admit right now it's not looking great, but this will come down to Dell Demps' ability to wheel-and-deal.
