Meh, I actually don't think it'll threaten too much. I honestly don't see a mass exodus overseas. Even if there was a mass jump overseas for the lockout, we all know once the league starts up everyone will be on the first flight back.

Damn all I ask is Deron not get hurt. But being a Net fan I expect the worst. Though I can see his reasoning behind wanting to play professional ball during the lockout

I heard Turkey is trying to get Kobe Bryant to come play as well. If they get him, I'm willing to bet you that's not going to be it. I'm guessing that there will be more players. And I'm not just talking about the average players. I'm talking about some all-star guys. If LeBron jumps ship, call it a wrap. The NBA(unofficially) will be moving from North America to Europe/Asia.
I can see the owners loosing a lot of leverage if more players play overseas.Comment

Re: NBA Off-season Movement & FA List (PG 1 Updated 6/29)
Kobe was threatening going overseas before... probably was mostly lip service, but I always thought he'd be the most likely high profile player to do it. With the mileage left on his body though, I doubt he'd risk it cutting down on the number of NBA minutes he has left.
He's got mileage, injuries, and age all against him (perhaps redundant but all valid). He's got a legacy already cemented. Addition by subtraction, the Lakers being swept in the 2nd round gave him a longer summer to work at his health (specifically, his knee).
But throw in the lockout. The fact that he just underwent a platelet transfusion on that same knee. His obvious tease of wanting to play overseas. And the potential to play with a fellow NBA-er or two (who knows).
It'd give him a chance to see how the knee responds to the PRP procedure. It'd give him a new "accomplishment" in competing overseas. And there's little denying that he'd become the biggest basketball star that's currently playing, in the entire world, since the lockout has guys sidelined till who knows when (something that has been taken from him, rightfully or not, over the last few years. Hi Lebron.).
I fully expect him to play overseas in the right situation, just as much as I'd be completely stunned if he did.Follow me on Twitter@DrewGarrisonSBNComment

I'm with you on not seeing a lot of all-star players looking to jump overseas. If there is a mass exodus, it'll be average NBA players. You might see one more all-star go BUT that's about it.
I think the worst case scenario for the owners is if a lot of the all-stars(especially the superstars) jump overseas. How much you want to bet that the owners will soften their stances once play starts over there with their players?I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Kobe is an interesting beast.
He's got mileage, injuries, and age all against him (perhaps redundant but all valid). He's got a legacy already cemented. Addition by subtraction, the Lakers being swept in the 2nd round gave him a longer summer to work at his health (specifically, his knee).

If it weren't for the recent injuries I'd probably put money on it... that's the only reason I think he wouldn't, but I'm not all that certain it'll hold him back. I will say that if he goes and one more star on the Deron/Kobe level goes also, that'll be enough to get the owners shaking (assuming a few mid/lower level guys will also hop on the train).Comment

Why Turkey of all places if he wants to "stay in game shape".
This isn't about "staying in game shape", this is about trying to scare the crap out of the owners. Transparent as ****.Comment

Heck, with the Turkish Ira (and the Euro) kicking the US Dollar *** on the market, that money that those clubs are paying them is going to go a long way.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. This most certainly gives the players leverage. Anytime you have options in any disagreement it gives you more leverage then you had before.Last edited by da ThRONe; 07-07-2011, 10:42 PM.You looking at the Chair MAN!

I dont blame these players one bit.
Nor do I think its some elaborate plot to get to the owners.
Its the closest theyll probably get to pro ball for a long while...pick up games at the Y just arent going to be enough to keep them in game shape..Last edited by The 24th Letter; 07-07-2011, 11:20 PM.Comment
