Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)

Apparently the Mavs have gone from Roddy Beaubois still being "unmovable" to being willing to trade him. Its unfortunate for Roddy and I'm worried the Mavs are going to do the same thing to Dominique Jones. Roddy is a shooting guard, he's a score-first, attack the basket kind of guy, he's had flashes at point guard, but his best moments as a Mav, like when he dropped 40 on the Warriors his rookie year, have been when he's scored the ball. But the Mavs have been trying to groom him as the successor to Jason Kidd and unfortunately for Roddy, in addition to having to adjust to that, he's had to go through some injury stuff and that's hurt his confidence. And before Delonte West got hurt he was getting a DNP-CD pretty much during the entire 6 game win streak before his dad died.

That being said, the Mavs might be able to pull out a solid rotation guy for him, Roddy's got tons of potential, and I hope that wherever he ends up they use him as a shooting guard and let him do what he does.

Adrian Wojnarowski <s>@</s>WojYahooNBA In calling around to front offices today, there sure didn't seem to be any on-going trade conversations involving Pau Gasol.

Adrian Wojnarowski <s>@</s>WojYahooNBAThat doesn't mean talks aren't happening, but teams seem convinced Lakers only want a major talent in return -- not several lesser parts.

Lakers held a Players Only meeting after last night's game according to everyone's favorite insider, Chris Broussard:

Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher gathered everyone together in the Lakers' locker room Monday night and tried to set the tone for the second half of the season.

The Lakers are holding out for Howard, which seems like it’s getting less and less likely Howard will be traded by the deadline. The Lakers seem very reluctant to give the Magic Bynum and Gasol for Howard. BUT other than the Magic deal, I don’t see any other scenario where they’re going to get nearly back as much talent with trading Gasol.

Don't know what LA is trying to do. Seems like a mess. They'd have to bring a package in from Howard, if trading Bynum and Gasol. 3 way still makes the most sense (with either Minny or Houston), but it's very cloudy. Only time will tell. Just go out and get Arenas, already.

That's probably the only thing that could save the Lakers future at this point because right now and judging from that article, it looks and sounds like they don't even know what their future is going to be like.

                      Might save the future but

                      A) I don't know why D12 would want to deal with all that Buss BS. From the moment they started assassinating anything Phil Jackson, it was clear their focus was no longer on basketball

                      B) Very hard for me to gauge what D12 would bring to the table vs. having Gasol/Bynum. To me, it seems like this could shake out (all hypothetical and speculatory) with Beasley/D12 to the Lakers, Gasol to the Wolves, Bynum/Derrick Williams to the Magic (barebones structure. Probably more complicated than that with picks etc). Not sure what to think right now as a Laker fan.

                      But I mean -

                      Arenas, Bryant, "Artest/Barnes", Beasley, Howard

                      vs

                      Fisher, Bryant, "Barnestest", Gasol, Bynum?

                      Who you taking?

(Yes, I believe LA should pick up, and start, Arenas. Will probably eat my words later.)

A second coming of the post "Showtime" dry spell looming?

lmao I was thinking about it reading all the doom & gloom in regards the the Lakers.

Time will tell, like it always does.

The three-some of Kobe, Pau, and Drew is still good enough to win a title, the problem is the Lakers still have not addressed a need that they have had for probably the last five years. A point guard.

When is the last time the Lakers have had a PG that could create for himself as well as others on the team. If the Lakers could address that need as well as adding better bench depth, they are right back in the thick of things.

If the hold up for the Lakers is not trading both Bynum and Gasol, then the Lakers themselves are holding up their own future. I’m not sure but I don’t think the Lakers can get Howard in free agency due to cap space. If they don’t get him this year, then they’re not getting Howard at all.

I don't want D12 if it means loosing Drew and Pau. Not really sure if Howard is that much of an upgrade over Drew in the first place.

They had that all locked up but Emperor Stern put the kibosh on it.
