I just don't see him as a viable offensive option in the NBA. But I actually think he fits the Cavs the best because he'll be playing with Kyrie and will gets cuts to the basket easily. I don't think it's the right pick right now though. If the Cavs already had a solid number 2 scoring option along with Kyrie I'd be drooling over MKG, Hell I'd say trade up to get him. Right now I think it's still hard for me to say take him at 4 because we don't have another viable scoring option. But this can also play into our advantage by being bad again this year and getting back into the lottery next year to take a scorer. Or should the Cavs just take Barnes and get a scorer? Or go completely 180 and take Drummond and take a 2 guard shooter with 24? I'm not quite set on a theory yet for the Cavs draft and don't think I will be until after the draft lol. Thoughts on Cavs direction?
First off, I am a UK alumn and live in Lexington, and I admittingly realize that makes my opinion "biased"...however, I know what I saw this year from him even without the "homer" Kool-Aid. One of the most refreshing players I've seen in years!

MKG = Highest motor in the draft. His second effort beats others first effort! Great character! Team first guy. He goes at it on both ends every second of every minute he plays. I think you get a potential (PG, SG, SF) lockdown defender, and I believe his offense could develop at the pro level quicker than many, if not most, figure. To me that all equals a "safe" pick, with upside. I'd be all over him, even at #2. Not saying he's Pippen, but if his potential is maxed and realized, I believe that is what you are looking at (sans Jordan, of course). Let's be honest...even a poor man's Pippen ain't half bad, if it turns out that way.

I've really warmed up to drafting him. I guess it just comes down to who the Cavs value more right now. A bigger more offensively polished SF or a SF that can lock down every position and isn't as sturdy on offense but just has a pure will to win and makes the guys around him want to win. If he falls to 4 I think we have to take him. I just worry about that hitch in his shot. I mean, I'm sure it's correctable and with the work ethic this kid has I'm sure he'll be in the gym 3 times a day working on it until it's corrected and he's an above average shooter in the NBA. I just see MKG as more of an offensive project and would like to see the Cavs take someone at 4 that can come in Day 1 and take some of the scoring duties off of Kyrie so we can finally get rid of Jamison. Definitely would take MKG at 4 though, I think the upside is too much to pass up with his motor and work ethic and will to win compared to Barnes or Beal or Drummond.

I hear ya 100%. All Im saying is defensive effort and "positive" team and locker room influence are very valuable intangibles (especially with struggling teams). With patience, MKG's offensive game will develop too, although a work-in-progress, I have no doubt. Personally, I like Beal (especially upside and all-around game) of the 3 you mentioned. I feel like Drummond may bust, and Barnes may be scorer, but Im not even sold on his defense, or 3pt shot for that matter. Kind of project him as off the bench guy for some reason? (i could be wrong, he has flashes, no doubt). Maybe at #24 you could get John Jenkins? Could be the next Ray Allen? He got the quick release J, that's for sure!

MKG basically sounds like a better version of Kawhi Leonard when he was in the draft last year. At least if my memory serves me well (which it rarely does).

              Re: 2012 NBA Draft Discussion

There are all sorts of questions about Thomas Robinson's ceiling as to whether he will be a star and worth a No. 2 pick. What do you guys think of an Elton Brand (pre ruptured achilles tendon in terms of production) or Shareef Abdur-Rahim (skill-wise, physically, and athletically) comparison? Robinson and Brand have similar college stats. Both led their teams to NCAA Title games (the Duke team won although Brand had considerably more help). They are similar in size with Brand having more bulk but Robinson being far more athletic. And Brand went No 1 overall while Abdur-Rahim was 3rd.

A quick drop of knowledge for you young bloods *Uncle Drew voice*... Before the Achilles Tendon Rupture, Brand was a year in and year out 20 and 10 guy, not the decent rotation player you see currently with the Sixers. I think Robinson plays harder and attacks the boards more than Abdur-Rahim but he was still a 20 and 9 guy in the NBA for an expansion team (Grizzlies). And Abdur-Rahim and Robinson are similar in size and athleticism.

Even if they weren't transcendent players I'd say that would still be a very good piece to a team and worth a No. 2 selection. Granted, Charlotte needs Kemba Walker and Biyombo to progress massively, Henderson needs to add the 3 point shot to his game, and they will have to use the cap space they get in 2013 from Diop, Carroll, and Maggette coming off the books ($22 million) wisely.

Robinson isn't comparable to Brand at all. They have to completely different skill sets and game. Brand is more of the traditional back to the basket scorer. Robinson is more of a beat you off the dribble power forward. Brand played the game "at the rim" and Robinson is very athletic. If I had to set Thomas ceiling I would say Charles Barkley. A physically imposing, undersized 4, with good quickness and explosive leapers.

Yes, earlier in the thread someone even told me 6'8 too..

But anyone think Marquis Teaque could be a Rajon Rondo type of player? For some reason thats the only NBA player comparison I can find for Teaque, especially if he goes in the 20s... Like Rondo.

                      Rondo...lol. Not in my opinion.

                      Teague compares to...Teague. (Jeff)

His jumpshot actually looked good at the combine. I think he could be a less athletic version of...you guessed it...his brother.

I don't get the Elton comparisons personally.

For some reason, I think Sullinger is more Brand-like to me.

Robinson seems like a more skilled Udonis Haslem player to me.

True, neither of you are hyping him up... but it's just not so surprising to me that they'd let him go if push comes to shove (like it appears it will).

Marquis also has a 40.5 inch vertical (not standing). His jump shot is ok and can become serviceable. Certainly better outside shot than rondo.
