In my opinion...they should go with Kendall Marshall even though I think that's a bit high for him.

You need someone who can create easy shots for Davis, Okafor, Landry.

This is a draft weak on PGs and you gotta grab one early. Lillard will be gone.

I think PJIII is going to be good but nowhere near KD good. KD had that killer instinct from before he got into the league. That's not something you just flip a switch on.

It's not that I don't like Davis or don't think he'll be a terrible player. I just don't see a player that is as special or safe as many believe. Dude has some gifts that are unbelievable.

        Re: 2012 NBA Draft Discussion

From a basketball standpoint, if I were the Hornets and the Cavs offered me picks 4, 24, and Tristan Thompson I would do that trade. Because then they could do the following:
        4) Harrison Barnes, SF
        10) Meyers Leonard, C
        24) Marquis Teague, PG

If they keep Gordon and in addition to what they already have, that would be a very solid lineup that would set them up for the next five or six years.

The Cavs would also win out by having two All-Star caliber (and marketable) players to bring the excitement back. Both teams would benefit.

BUT from a marketing/business standpoint... New Orleans needs Anthony Davis from the get go. Too much money would be lost up front from ticket sales, merchandise, fan outcry by trading the number one pick, etc. It is debatable though that this money could be gained back if Gordon, Barnes and Thompson would develop.

If the Hornets even entertained trading the #1 pick in this draft...the entire front office should be sent packing.

          This isn't a videogame.

Yeah I agree with that, because of the state of today's NBA....

Marketable Stars will always beat building solid, all around teams... Which is what I was saying in that post....

But for a team I'd value the option of Thompson, Barnes and Teague for Davis.

If this was football where the top talent is closer, etc. Then hell yeah I'd make that trade, however it's the NBA you don't make that particular trade.

A core of Davis/Gordon is a great start for a franchise, then whoever is available at #10. The Hornets already have a solid group of role players imo, over the next few years you find more of those type of players through the draft.

The NBA is such a beast that one elite, LeBron or Durant level player will more than make up what those 4 players do combined. That's turning a team around 180 from where tehy were or making them exponentially better.

Is Davis that player? Remains to be seen. But that's why the 1st pick is so coveted. Because you have to take that player.

The athletic results from the combine were released yesterday. No step & Max Vert, 185 Bench Reps, 3/4 court sprint & lane agility were measured.

Top 5 Best (and worst) in each drill.

Wow @ Harrison Barnes. 38 vert & 39.5 max vert
Brad Beal almost hitting 40 too. Makes me wonder if some guys slouch on their reach or if that many guys are rocking 40" verts.

Color me unsurprised at Fab Melo coming in dead last in Lane agility. I thought he'd make a decent pick for Celtics but he's not about that show & recover life.

You're not going to get a player with those skills coming out of Syracuse's 2-3 Zone.

If he's coachable and a quick learner, he'll be able to pick it up.

But that's not the system he came from.

Yep, misread that list. Still like him for Celtics.

Thomas Robinson worked out for the Wizards today
. Unfortunately the other two players at the workout are fringe/2nd round guys.

Honestly, for the Wizards i'm OK with any of these top prospects but I hope we don't go after MKG. My preference probably goes:

Beal (Fills main need @ 2, Perimeter shooting, 2G size)
Robinson (Fills main need for Rebounding, can play uptempo)
Barnes (Fills main need @ 3, Perimeter shooting, potential for much more)
Drummond (Could be great, could also just not get it)
MKG (redundant with C.Singleton who was arguably better in college at the main things MKG would bring initially - defense and hustle)

For some reason I just feel that Harrison Barnes will be the player with the most success from this draft. I still do not understand why he did not dominate in college. He looked like he was giving 70% to not risk injury, which made his decision to come back mind boggling.

I believe when it is all said and done the top five players from this class will be:

                            1) Barnes
                            2) Davis
                            3) P. Jones
                            4) Beal
                            5) Leonard

Here is Draft Express breakdown of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Shows his strengths and weaknesses and is a fair assessment. The one thing to remember about MKG is his work ethic. It is off the charts and I personally have total confidence that he will become, at the least, an adequate shooter. He needs serious work, but again, I think he will do it.
