And if he did how many teams would be outraged at the stupidity of someone to do that? Obviously it would be great for him and the teams, but he would have to have some serious mental & maturity issues...

        Re: 2014 Draft Discussion

I think of the lottery teams; the Celtics, the Lakers, and possibly the Jazz, are the only teams that can take a chance on Embiid and go through the Noel/Griffin route and sit him out for the season.

I don't think the Cavs or the Bucks can afford the risk and would rather take Wiggins or Parker. 76ers don't really need him as they have Noel and doubt they would want to take the same route again. The Magic also would rather draft a PG as opposed to a center whom they already have in Vucevic.

At this point I'm hoping that the Celtics can still get Love, however I'm not sure they can do that without trading the farm... especially, if it's true that GS is offering Klay, Lee plus picks.

If we have to move two of Sully, Olynyk, Green, plus the 6th pick and either the 17th or future first round picks, then that's far too much, in my opinion. I would rather just stand pat with the 6th and 17th and hope that Embiid drops then hope to get a shooter at 17. I don't know exactly what are cap situation looks like, but with Hump's big contract off the books we should be able to get some help through free agency.

i believe the best options for teams drafting embiid would be ones with multiple picks, or ones who dont really have a need to fill with any of the remaining players

could you imagine, if he dropped into the 20s and okc grabbed him...

What might be the highest(or just most realistic) pick that can be obtained in this years draft if the 20th + 37th overall picks were packaged together? I'm thinking/hoping maybe somewhere around 14-16?

20 and 37, probably like mid-late teens, ainge would probably do that swap for #17

I disagree I don't think the Cavs expected much out of Embiid this year if he was indeed the pick at 1 anyways. They still have Varejao and Zellers so they are in the prefect situation to let Embiid get healthy and just work on his game all year while still competing for the playoffs.

They can trading down once maybe even maybe even twice and still get Embiid while collecting assets along the way.

For example if Philly wants Wiggins as badly as it's been reported. The Cavs can swap 1st for 3rd, T. Young and a future pick. Or if the 6ers are desperate enough I saw someone here propose a Cavs 1st pick and A. Bennett/Thompson for 6ers 3rd and 10th pick. Depending on how the Cavs view Bennett and/or Thompson long term.

Then there's the potential to trade down again with the Magic or the Jazz with the 3rd pick. If after trading with Philly to 3 if the top two players or Wiggins and Parker and the Magic love Exum they might be willing to trade up and give up somebody like a Afflalo as Exum is number 3 on the majority of big boards and mocks drafts now with Embiid injury. Or if the draft goes Wiggins then Exum (as the Buck are rumored to be considering Exum with the 2nd pick) I could see Utah making a move for Parker here. Giving up a guys like Burks and/or Favors/Kanter may be worth it to them. I could see something like Burks, Favors/Kanter, and 5th pick for the 3rd pick. I doubt Orlando would pass on Smart for Embiid when they have Vucevic.

So the Cavs could logically avoid having to put the pressure of being the number 1 pick on Embiid while still picking him 4th or 5th. And collecting a guy to play SF in Young and a SG like Afflalo.

This Embiid injury could be a godsend for the Cavs franchise if they play it right. The perception that Joel is no longer a legitimate top pick will only ratchet up the asking price for the number 1 pick.

20 + 37 would get you no where near 14-16. Maybe 2 places up at best (3 if Ainge goes full rebuild).

I think Wiggins is the clear #1 overall pick (mentioned this a dozen times probably) but I wouldn't be shocked if they pick Parker. The Cavs want to win now, and while I think Wiggins is better than Parker now, people think Parker is "more" NBA ready (despite the shooting numbers being similar...).

I agree with you about Wiggins being the #1 but seeing Cavs go Parker. While I also see Wiggins as the better player currently I think the thing with Parker is you can put him on a playoff team and know hes gonna get you 12-15 points a game while Wiggins you really dont know what your getting on offense any given game

remember how a few weeks ago the cavs were torn between choosing parker or embiid, well now theres just parker left. so unless they decided they wanted wiggins #1 anyways, parker is going #1

Wiggins might not get you consistent offense, but Parker's offensive game isn't that much better. Wiggins shot 34% from three, Parker 36%. He also went up against much slower PF's most of the time. Wiggins shot 45% overall, Parker 47%.
According to sports reference Wiggins actually had a higher TS% & ORating.

Not to mention the fact that Wiggins is a great defensive player that you can plug in immediately and he can guard the 2-3, and switch onto PG's & PF's without a huge issue.
