I just meant if college wasn't "for them". The Euro squads play about 30-35 games in their domestic league and then the better teams also play midweek games in the "EuroLeague" which consist of the best club teams from the different nations. A player who doesn't qualify would stand a better chance going over there for 2 years, then coming back and working out with a trainer and get ready for the draft camps.

yeah, I know what you meant. I just wanted to point out that I couldn't see many Joe Highschoolers skipping out to Europe to play, rather than go to Duke, UNC, UConn, etc to play for a NC. I think going to the college game might be a better showcase for young talent, scouts see the European guys, but I'm sure they learn more about the college players.

      Re: NBA Rule Change Rumor

I think we are arguing about two different things. The best high school players would go to college with this rule change. Those players like Lebron, Kobe, Garnett would either go to college or go to Europe (heck, one team over there offered Lebron $1 mil to play there instead of his high school senior year).

This also allows those that don't qualify for college and then declare for the draft (because there isn't another place to turn in their mind) an opportunity to make a living for 2-3 years while they wait to become eligible for the draft.

Now before someone says that you are preventing someone a way of life. I offer this one question. In the NBA, if you are drafted in the 1st round you are guaranteed a contract for 3 years. Why should the NBA keep giving contracts to players who haven't proved anything?? Tyson Chandler ring a bell? Go to Europe, prove you can play in the pros, then get your contract if you think you are "so ready".

I don't think alot of these kids parents would go for that. I know I would want my son to go to college..GET AN EDUCATION, develop his social skills, be with people his own age, and sharpen his basketball skills in COLLEGE instead of the Europe. At least if basketball doesn't work out many of these kids will have degrees....I just don't think many realize how fast a million dollars goes.

Man, damn that. If a kid can join the military and go fight in Iraq at 18, then obviously he's old enough to make his own decisions. If I decide to go pro and end not getting draft or end up being a bust, THEN THATS MY FAULT. Ill just have to pay for it. If it works out then its all good. All this crap about David Stern wanting to protect the NBA, blah, blah, the quality is going down. Hell its the veterans who act like the biggest jackasses anyway. And the coaches work for David Stern and they are the ones who draft the players. U guys act like these high schoolers just force their way onto a team. These coaches dont HAVE to draft them. They can still take the 4 year college graduate if they want. I think people try to control everything and then claim, "oh it will help the game". Thats bull. Hell most of the best players in the league played 1 year of college or came straight from high school. Its just something else the guys at the top want to have control over just like every other orginization in the world.
