Re: 2014 Eastern Conference Playoffs -1st Round Discussion Thread

Only reason to get rid of Casey is if there's someone better out there, and like I said before, there's alot of "attractive names" who could be available, but whether they'd be better with a team like what we'll likely have is another story.

I still wouldn't mind George Karl though, and I'm sure he would sign considering him and Ujiri were in Denver. Would be similar situation to when they got Lenny Wilkens. Getting him when he's in his mid 60s and coached 4+ teams before such as Seattle and Cleveland, being conference champs and winning coach of the year award(Those are the big similarities between Wilkens-Karl) Only real difference is Lenny won 1 NBA title(but that was 20+ years before coming to Toronto).

I don't really want Casey to go, but after the season Raptors had and the type of roster they have, you never know what available coach might want to throw his name in the running to be Raptors coach if an opening is there.

Making a change for the sake of making a change, even if it makes little sense.

Go ahead and do it though, because that'll mean one less team I have to worry about when they start struggling again.

No one says a thing about Casey being replaced until this series loss lol I don't really get that, but okay. As long as you guys aren't trying to blame him for losing, I'm okay with it.
Who exactly are all these attractive coaching names out there anyway? I've only seen two names mentioned so far. Who can come in and immediately get this team to 50 wins? I think you guys just need to improve that bench for now.

Yeah, not so much that he shoulda hands down won, but be highly considered.. Lots of non-raptor fans here even had him in that 3-5 range.

Soooo we spend most of the season having to hear about the bias against the Raptors cause of Canada and free agents not wanting to come there and all this other stuff. Now Casey needs to get fired because of all these "attractive candidates" out there that they'll actually be able to land? The hell is in the water up there y'all?

A.) There is no bias against Canada. That would be unfathomably stupid. Why would you alienate a population of 35 million?
B.) I know lots of people want an attractive candidate but there are a lot of people out there who are better coaches than Casey, regardless of name and rep.

Didn't meant it in that way, meant it in the whole, "if the opportunity to improve is there, then why not?" Unless you're a championship team, you can always find ways to improve, even by coaching. I don't think Casey needs to be replaced at all, maybe just a better shooting coach on the team and some other assistant who can help with defense more, but that's really it. Doesn't seem to be any problems with Casey and anyone on the team so doubt they'd get rid of him cause chemistry is fine. People suddenly talking about it because season is over and nothing else to talk about for Raptors fans at this point other than status of Casey,Lowry and so on.

And Lowry could be deciding factor in all this. If he really likes Casey and wants him back, Raptors would just keep him and get Lowry back, but if there's some reason Lowry wants a diff coach, then I say get rid of Casey if it means keeping Lowry(though I REALLY doubt there is even a slight problem with Lowry-Casey or Casey-anyone on the team, so that scenario is useless)

Also....don't like KG,Pierce,Kidd after this series, but still classy move/huge respect from KG:

I think he's referring to when Kidd made comments about the officiating and saying they weren't making calls in their favor etc etc.

After he said that the calls while pretty much even did have a decided bias against the Raptors especially in regards to Jonas valanciunas.

Not making excuses just surmising what he meant by lumping Kidd in there.

Pretty crazy how perceptions change in a year. Just a short time ago, the Raptors fan base was on the Brian Shaw bandwagon and couldn't wait for Casey to leave town.

Honestly, if you could improve why not? I don't see this years success as all Casey, in fact there were plenty of times in this series I was asking myself if the Raptors actually ran any plays at all? Seemed like if Lowry wasn't on the court, they were pretty much lost on offense.

I think this year was a perfect storm for Toronto. The East was pathetic and Derozan/Johnson/Lowry had career years. Not to take anything away from their growth, but they are going to have a lot to prove next year, because they aren't going to be sneaking up on teams like they did this season. JVs growth is also going to be key in their improvement. Guy has the tools to be a consistent 18/10-12 type guy and the focal point of their offense. He needs to be their building block for the future and his development should be priority number one this off season.

You should try convincing your fellow Raptor fans that then. Cause let them tell it there most certainly is a bias.

Because ****ty franchises make changes just to make them. They just had the best season in their history, made it to the playoffs and fought a very, very difficult seven game series that they could have easily won. Clearly the players have bought into something Casey is selling. Firing him now would be stupid and extremely risky for no real reason.
