The already have the other Plumlee brother, why stockpile so many big men (centers) and adversely effect developing the younger two (Plumlee and Len) players in the process?

Mitch Kupcheck is flying to Cleveland to meet Lebron's agent right now. Right after the Carmelo meeting.

Mitch might be cooking something here.

That or Lebron and Riley are just toying with the league right now. Plus I can't see Melo leaving sooo much money on the table. Seems like Mitch should focus on getting Stephenson and Thomas instead.

I swear this thread is more active during fa time than during the reg season. Ive been camping like 3 days and this place has like 30 pages lol.

Anyway, why are the lakers offering melo so much money? Assuming he doesn't go to chicago or stay in new york, and he did come to la. All our money would be tied up in him and kobe, and we'd have no role players.

Why is lebron trolling people again? did he not learn from the "Decision"? and even worse melo seems to now want to do the same thing. I really wish these two will just sign somewhere so I can stop checking this place every morning, finally put down the nba, and start getting ready for college football, as well as get back to enjoy fishing. Here i'll solve the problem, Melo go to chicago, lebron go back to cleveland, sign a one year deal, then head to milwaukee. everybody wins.

Has any team contacted Pierce yet? How much should he command at this point? He proved that he could still ball last season.

Hawes would be replacing Frye. He'll play the stretch 4/5 like Frye did but have better numbers. He could lead the team in double doubles. Plumlee, Morris Twins, Hawes is pretty solid group of young big guys.

Hawes definitely isn't a "stretch 4" in any sense of the term. He'd be a center masquerading as a power forward, but whatever he gives them scoring wise will be negated by a lack of mobility (key point in a stretch 4), athleticism and defense. They actually need an upgrade at small forward or the swing position to take the next step, but I highly doubt the top tier free agents are seriously considering Phoenix. Gordon Hayward would be a good to great acquisition for Phoenix if they could make that happen.

                    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

While they chase Carmelo Anthony and Pau Gasol, the Chicago Bulls may be close to landing what they believe is a major addition to their roster as they are working on securing 2011 first round draft pick Nikola Mirotic, sources told ESPN.com.

The Bulls traded for Mirotic's rights in 2011 when he was the No. 23 pick in the draft and have watched as he's developed into one of the best forwards in Europe. Known for his shooting touch, the 6-foot-10 Mirotic secured a buyout Thursday for $3 million with Real Madrid, according to several reports in Europe. He is now free to join the NBA.

Starting the process of bringing Mirotic, 23, over to play now will require the Bulls to make some roster moves. Because he was drafted three years ago, Mirotic is not subject to the rookie salary-cap scale and the Bulls likely will need to use some of their cap space to contribute to his buyout and sign him to a long-term contract.

The Bulls can pay up to $600,000 toward Mirotic's buyout, but anything over that amount would be considered a signing bonus and be charged to the Bulls' cap. Such a move would not preclude the Bulls from acquiring Anthony as a free agent, but that route would almost certainly mean they would have to do it with a sign-and-trade using Carlos Boozer. That would require the New York Knicks' cooperation.
We'll see how much we give him. Maybe we'll bring DJ back with the rest of our cap space since I don't see Gasol coming here unless Melo is here and that ain't happening.

Yeah exactly. Idk why the finals thread is only active during the finals?...I kid lol.

But to stay on topic, I thought Charlotte would have signed someone solid or we'll anyone at all by now... I guess not.

Lopez and Robinson are pretty much defense-only guys. So I can understand going after another offensive big men. Plus he can shoot, and Lillard is at his best in a pick n roll/pop, Kaman should fit that nicely.

Hawes is a stretch big though. Mobility has little to do with being a stretch big, rather it's their shooting ability.. they pull their defender to the perimeter, hence the term stretch (stretching the floor). Ryan Anderson, Channing Frye etc. don't have much mobility. Hawes might not be a PF but what difference does it make? He still stretches the floor as a big man, ala Sam Perkins

These articles refer to him as a stretch big:

Portland's top target as free agency opens appears to be stretch big man Spencer Hawes, who met with GM Neil Olshey and head coach Terry Stotts Monday night. Would Hawes be a good fit for the Blazers?

Now that Tyson Chandler is manning center, the Mavs focus shifts to finding a backup. Coming off a career year, Spencer Hawes and his toilet paper could be a great fit in Dallas.

Doesn't change the fact that Hawes is primarily a center, and in a league going further and further away from slow footed players, which means they would be rotating three in their lineup. Two of which have absolutely no range outside of the painted area. They need either a quality starting small forward/shooting guard or power forward not more size up front, IMO.

Not to mention that both Morris' can already provide outside shooting and play the power forward position.

If those two are "defense only" then they did a terrible job of providing that last year. Robinson is an athletic, energy player and he can rebound the ball as well. Lopez does a lot of the same things except without the athleticism and he's a quality pick - and - roll partner too. They need an Omer Asik type defender in the rotation, hence why they went after Splitter last summer, to help them take the next step.
