Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I understand that they need a starting small forward, but I think the lack of a back up big man was actually a bigger hole for them to fill. Glen Davis having to come in as their back up center was pretty rough last year especially in the playoffs. And as much as Blake handles the ball and makes plays the need for a small forward in lessened. Pretty much all they need at that spot is more consistent shooting and defense.
Unluckily for them they went for Dudley and he ended up being an inconsistent bum, and Barnes was just widely inconsistent.. Which is pretty much his offensive career in general.
But if the sign and trade for Deng is actually a possibility I think they are greatly overachieving by what I feel like they need. Signing Pierce, Turner, Marion, Ariza, Tucker, Butler, Aminu, Henry, I think they can find something that works. I don't think the gap is as big as most do though. There's also an outside chance Granger can be at least half of what he used to be, and maybe he would resign as well. Don't count on it though.
I really believe Glen Davis playing back up center and Collison and Crawford making two bad plays for every good play, and also trying to match KD/Westbrook home run shot per home run shot, hurt them in the playoffs more so than a lackluster small forward did.
If I were them though I would be trying to trade away maybe Crawford with Dudley's expiring to one of these rebuilding teams that could use a scoring guard and that extra cap space. Possibly try and land Young from Philly, Green from Boston, Ilyasova from the Bucks, Harkless/Harris from Orlando, Chandler from the Nuggets, Prince from Memphis, or something along the lines of that.

It's so strange Fields ended up like this after looking like a big steal his rookie season.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Very technically sound game. Makes the right passes, plays good enough defense, he can finish a little, etc. For like 1-2m a year, I'd take him on my bench all day. Not his fault he got Colangelo'd."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Borderline d-leaguer imo. His rookie year he shot the 3 well, but since then he's been terrible.
Only reason he got that deal was to keep the Knicks from being able to use him in a sign and trade for Steve Nash.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Probably the best critique he will he ever get. IMO he can't defend at all and his shooting has been lackluster compared to his rookie year.Comment

I wish Dallas would just go after someone and quit waiting on Melo, its pretty apparent that he's not coming here. I'm worried that another team not in the Melo hunt is gonna snatch up Parsons or Deng or Ariza or Isaiah Thomas, or anyone else the Mavs could have.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NBA: Dallas Mavericks
MLB: Texas Rangers
NHL: Dallas Stars
NCAA: Alabama Crimson Tide
