    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

Gibson is a better PF than Boozer at this point, and younger, and cheaper. Minny doesn't want anything to do with Boozer.

If it gets done, it will be something close to my scenario above. But we most likely won't land him.

I'm hoping that Boston gets a top 5 pick and uses that along some of their other assets if needed (Sully or Olynyk and maybe some picks) to trade for Kevin Love. The last time that the C's traded for a big from Minnesota worked out pretty well... maybe history will repeat itself.

I thought minny was stupid beyond words, i mean have you seen peks contract? Anyway your probably right. Chicago doesnt have the money or depth to trade for love and still have a respectable bench. For chicago to benefit, they have to get more than love out of the deal, or minny would have to take boozer instead of chicago amnestying(guess thats a word) him.

I think i heard someone bring up butler. Im not a fan of trading him personally, mainly cuz im of the belief that good teams need a shutdown wing defender. And butler has been top 5 in that category this year.

IMO Porter's only really strength is a decent three point shot. He's weakness is creating looks and handling the ball.. He definitely isn't going to be stuck in a Williams zone because Williams is a SF/PF tweener that doesn't fit a position.. Porter is a SF/SG so regardless he'll always be a perimeter guy and lack of size will never be an issue the way it is with Williams.

I wonder how that trade would've been viewed had the Wolves managed to trade up and draft Griffin or Harden(they had 5th,6th,18th,28th picks!). Or even just drafted Curry.

Imagine using 6th pick to draft Curry and trading 5th,18th,28th picks to move up and draft Harden. Curry and Harden on the backcourt for the Wolves with Love in the frontcourt...That might have been the team to beat in the NBA right now if they build depth around those guys.

The good thing is that there are already guys who are good at his weaknesses(Miller, Wall and Beal are perfect in this system creating and ball handling). I look at like this....there's no reason he can't be Harrison Barnes 2.0 at worst here.

I want to see the best teams possible. Harden/Love/Howard would be a fantastic trio, I'd like to see that happen. Love and Howard especially should fit very well together. Love spaces the floor, Howard makes up for his defensive deficiencies, and they rebound like madmen. Sounds entertaining to me. I've never been one to denounce the "superteams", I enjoy them. This would be another elite team that would have a little different dimension because there isn't really another top player like Love.

IF it were to happen, it would most likely be both of our picks, Gibson and Snell or the rights to Mirotic.

This is without looking at the numbers.
If the Bulls can trade Boozer, they'll throw him in any deal. Jerry wants NO part of paying Carlos Boozer 16.8 million dollars to go away unless he has no other alternative.

Referring to this deal specifically, Minnesota doesn't want anything to do with Boozer. Would be completely counter productive to anything they would want to accomplish with this trade. A deal involving Boozer and Gibson (which I'm sure any team would prefer) would put Minnesota nearly $9 million over the salary cap and that's if that's all they want.

For us to get it done, I'm almost positive a combo of picks and 2 out of the Butler/Gibson/Mirotic trio would have to be offered in addition to taking back a guy like Mbah a Moute for it to work.

In regards to Boozer, I think you're going to be hard pressed to find any team that is willingly going to take that contract. Especially when teams know that they'll most likely be able to sign him for over half the amount he is getting paid now after the Bulls amnesty him. (Should they actually pull the trigger)

Teams really don't have an excuse for passing on Boozer at this point. He's a 16 million dollar expiring contract. We all know how valuable expiring contracts are in the NBA. I still can't believe Joe Johnson got moved, Gilbert Arenas got moved, Rashard Lewis got moved twice with far worse contracts but god forbid anybody touch Boozer.

I'll find the article when I can but it basically said that teams aren't as willing to just take on a player and his expiring contract only but also want some sort of pick compensation(mainly a 1st rd pick unprotected)in addition.

So yeah, Boozer is an expiring contract and those are usually never bad things to have, but you're still going to have to throw something else in as well.

So I do agree with 13 in that regard as far as the value of an expiring by itself.
