Don't know if this counts, but i think people are to quick to buy into popular opinions these days, especially if they keep hearing it said on nbatv or espn. Their more likely to take it as law if its a negative on a player. Example, westbrook purposely taking shots from durant, rose showing no heart to play in 2012 season, dwight not trying during his year with the lakers, etc. I feel people should put more effort into making there own assumption, rather than just taking sportscenters word as law.

Re: The Unpopular Opinion thread
Considering players of the yesteryear often had to look at the ball when they dribbled and shot way lower percentages, this is one that has no basis other than listening to old man rants about how they were much better than the kids today.Comment

The fundamental police in basketball are by far the worst. I'm young (26) but I've watched a lot of old games on tape and folks just making some of this stuff up.NFL - Vikings

Re: The Unpopular Opinion thread
In basketball you're pretty much measured as a fundamental player or an athletic player, nobody ever gives an in between or mixed label. Which is stupid IMO.
Today's athletes as a whole are a little more on the athletic side, so people just throw out that fundamentals are basically dead, players don't have basketball skills, etc, etc. doesn't make any sense.
So what if point guards no longer back their man in as soon as they cross half court. So what if offenses are no longer ran through passing the ball into the "pivot" position and running cuts around it. Just because the game itself has evolved definitely does not mean players are no longer fundamental or skilled.
You could actually make reverse arguments that players are even more fundamental now than in the past. Could nearly all big men before handle the ball the length of the court, shoot with range out to the three, hedge out to stop guards? Sure you had the certain guys who could, but it's pretty much the common ground now as opposed to a rarity.
Seeing a lot of these guys have such well rounded games and then seeing people act like the fundamentals are dying is just baffling to me.

Re: The Unpopular Opinion thread
I do understand the criticism that a lot of star players coming out of high school do not focus on improving their weaknesses a lot of the times because they get treated like mini gods who can do no wrong in a lot of cases, but the reality is that the ones that want it badly work on their games as they go up in the level of competition and become well rounded players. Besides, these guys are coming in so young and its very rare to see a 19 year old who can shoot lights out for example.Comment

Most players problems are just either selfishness or poor bball iq. Theyre mostly narcissistic personality types in pro sports, mostly, not all.Comment
